Allen has been more disappointing than Borini for me.
Borini has been out with two long injuries during his time here. I believe anyone who is judging him is doing to prematurely. For me, he's shown sufficient promise for a £10M young striker and he's looking sharper with every week. We only need him to provide competition for Sturridge and Suarez. He's good enough for that. We're not in a position in which we have to rely upon him, which benefits his progression.
Joe Allen started well and achieved a few MOM's in his first month, as well as praise from Gerrard, but there has been an alarming regression ever since. It could be linked to his shoulder injury, but we haven't seen a decline in Gerrard's performance since the shoulder injury he has been playing with since January so you have to wonder if it's a bullshit excuse.
Allen was meant to walk into this side and he's spent most of the season on the bench or injured. He will come good though. He's a decent player and he'll prove it next year, but he and Liverpool have every right to be disappointed with his contribution for 2012/13.
Any disappointment from these two has been overidded by the success of the Coutinho and Sturridge signings - and I think there's good reason for both Allen and Borini to have far more productive seasons next time round,. We're not talking about Keane/Aquilani/Carroll type flops here, which shouldn't be a refreshing to say, but it is.
