Personally I'd take Berahino over Benteke..

A Player that plays in a similar fashion to that of Sturridge. Has pace, direct and scores goal..

Whilst it is not my preferred choice as i think we should be making a statement of intent.... I think he would be a better option to have than Benteke..

He wouldn't be a bad shout, but there's still the one/two season wonder concerns about him and he'd be similarly overpriced.

Not as overpriced as Benteke.. he definitely has something about him and could be a calculated risk.. and he does fit into the FSG mould..

Good player. I was a bit concerned after he started acting the Billy Big Bollocks at West Brom when it looked like a move to a bigger club was on for him. The fact that he's dumped Ward says a lot for him though. We could defo do worse, and I agree he'd probably suit us better than Benteke.

Was that him or his agent.. ?? it does make you wonder..

Ward probably only has his own interests at heart.. rather than development of the player.. If we have learnt anything from the Sterling sale, it was certainly that..

The last time he was mentioned people were talking about a fee of £25m, that's overpriced.

It's not really though is it? A quick kid that can score loads of goals for a crap side in this league is easy worth around that.

He is English and Home Grown.. we will pay a premium for that alone regardless..

£18-£20 million including addons would be a fair price, though like you say its likely to be closer to £25 million..

29 goals in 52 games for West Brom.. is certainly not shabby for a below par Premier League side..

He kept them up last season and scored goals against Ourselves, Chelsea & Man Utd...

Deserves it own thread I think... Split from the original Topic..

I mentioned this in another thread a couple of weeks back. I do think Benteke is more of the finished article right now but lean towards Berahino as more in line with our system and likely starting players.

At the very least we should be checking him out publicly to weaken Villa's position re Benteke.

2 season in the premier league, 5 goals then 14 goals. Nah, not for me. We need goals, Austin or Benteke or something.

I'm being greedy and going to hold out for a potential superstar so I'm going to turn my nose up at him. He's a decent player but I can't get excited about a hypothetical move for Saido Berahino.

Like I said.. I would prefer a statement type signing.. But if we are to go down the avenue of exploring what the lower teams amongst the premiership has to offer.. You probably couldn't get much better than this fella in terms of suiting our style of play....

29 in 52 games in all competitions not to be scoffed at

Stats are only useful if they in some way help you figure out whether a player will be productive for you during the time you have him.

I'd argue that cup games are meaningless given the massive variance that exists in the quality of teams faced
faced.

Berahino scored a hattrick against Newport County in the Carling Cup, for me that means absolutely nothing.

What is relevant is the 19 goals he's scored in 43 games in the Premier League. That's not be scoffed at.

To say he hasn't scored enough for us to consider him is foolish. He's done that at age 20 and 21.

You'd prefer a big waste of money signing?

Like who?

The best statement of intent we could make is to stop selling our best players and to stop overpaying for players.

The culture unfortunately of overpaying for players is arguably set in stone now, with the 'home grown' rule.. It not just ourselves, but other club are doing the same..

29 goals in 81 appearances?

In the league 19 in 70appearances (although no doubt, a lot of those were sub appearances in the beginning)?

19goals, 3 assists, in 4344 minutes of football. So about 48 full games.

Decent. Not extraordinary. I'd wonder how he'd work WITH Dan Sturridge.

Personally, I Ithink Benteke would work better with Origi and Sturridge than Berahino.

Although Berahino might work better with Coutinho and Firmino.

I'd prefer Neymar myself, if we're including players we can't sign now

Stupid Comparison..

Why couldn't we sign him.?? if we offer the money, I don't see why not.. though we most probably won't... He would cost around the same as Villa want for Benteke

Neymar on the other hand is completely out of our league
