Probably the best attacking talent we’ve had coming through the Academy since Raheem (and Sterling, duh). Will be exciting to see him develop over the coming months and years.

For his age he's got a really high standard already, I'd be amazed if we don't see more of him in the 2nd half if the season

He didn't come through the Academy, nothing good does. We bought him from Celtic.

These are the type of players i get excited about, they have gifts you can’t coach only nurture.

A big plus for him is probably the lack of depth on the right side of attack, it’s pretty much only salah. But yea maybe it’s more sensible to go somewhere else for a lot of minutes.

I am going to say it, and it will probably ruin his career. I was watching a compilation of him yesterday, and I thought he was short, nope, not all. The boy is 177cm or nearly 5'10. The 2nd and some would say utterly jinxy thing to say, is the way he plays reminds me of Messi. The ball control, the ball always only a few inches from his feet. No fancy trickery that goes no where.

There is no fucking way he is a gnat’s bollock over 5ft 7!!!

What about Kaide Gordon? Doak seems much more two-footed than most wingers, which will allow him to play left of right. We could use some trickery on the left with Diaz out.

Liverpool could be about to make an exemption to an unwritten transfer rule by sending out Ben Doak and Bobby Clark on loan in January, despite the two players having only just made the step up to senior level at 17 years of age.
It’s rare for Liverpool to sanction loan exits for players so young - from all of the youth players to have been granted their first temporary moves away from Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, Harvey Elliott is the only one to have been under the age of 18.
However, after impressing in their limited senior opportunities, there is the possibility that Doak and Clark will be sent on loans to give them more experience and accelerate their development.
BBC Scotland claimed that Nottingham Forest were monitoring Doak ahead of a potential loan move last month, while Preston North End have repeatedly been credited with interest in Clark

We don't get a lot of big lads in the academy do we?
I mean, who make it. In the last 20 years it's Martin Kelly and Nat?
Curtis is quite tall yeah, but he's built like Macca.

I don’t see nobody who’s hungry enough (like a young Stevie) in today’s Academy and that’s probably why most of them won’t make the next step up and by that I mean world class level. Most of them are just spoilt, pampered kids who believe the hype about themselves. I’d rather they train in slums barefooted than in all these world class facilities. Gone are the days when players would fight to go onto the pitch even with a broken bone.

Today I look at hunger first over talent whenever a young player is mentioned.

Talent is the ticket to get you in but attitude, drive and wisdom are what make you succeed. There’s only a handful who’s got that combo unfortunately. Elliot’s one of them but it remains to be seen.

Trent used to have that but the hunger has nosedived after winning multiple titles and it’s reflected in his performances. But he’s still young so he gets some benefit of doubt that maybe fatigue has played a factor in his recent dip.

The academies in Chelsea, City, and Arsenal seem to produce good lads though. Even Everton / United... Maybe the problem isn't that the kids aren't starved and naked, but our academy is just shit and under budget

It's clearly better if the academy is producing talent, but in the absence of that, I'm absolutely fine with buying other club's top academy products for peanuts. We're taking advantage of the system and long may that continue. As soon as a young player plays 5-6 games in the PL the value is more than double paid at any tribunal. It's early on Doak, but I think we can say all three of Carvalho, Elliott and Doak will be decent squad options in the years to come. That's 3 young players coming through for a cost of less than £8-12m, depending on add-ons, which is a more reliable and consistent way to supplement the squad.

Unless there's some big overhaul, the best we can really hope from the academy is the occasional gem/squaddie coming through every 3-4 years. Where we could/should look to improve is to take advantage of the loan system better to ensure our academy products go for the very best fees we can.

You could argue Balaghazi and Stefan are quite big, but I get your point, our attackers are scrawny fucks

Can we combine his Christian name and surname into one name to make him sound like a South American prodigy - just say it really quickly, make the “d” silent and heavily accent the “o”

Bendoak!!! Make it sound like BEN-OOH-ACK!!

Under budget - definitely not. Shit - yes.

I'm pretty sure we don't spend like Chelsea et al do.

I think our academy has been providing more than it has for a long time recently.

In the last four years Ward, Camacho, Kent, Hoever, Brewster, Wilson and Neco Williams each went for 7M+ and ~92M in total

We'll likely see a decent fees for Phillips, Van Den Berg, Morton and hopefully Conor Bradley when they get sold (hard to see a spot for them at Liverpool).

Then you've got TAA, Kelleher and Jones that have actually made it into the first team squad.

It'd be nice to see a couple of genuinely exciting talents emerging rather than a drip feed of Championship / lower Prem type players but the latter is better than the stream of Potters and Spearings we had before.

Hopefully this Doak kid ends up justifying the hype.

Out of all those players mentioned, Brewster was supposed to be the one who would make it. He can hardly get a game for Sheffield these days, although to be fair, injuries have marred him.

The rest are just ordinary players and will count themselves lucky to ever train at a club like Liverpool.

The Academy isn't shit, it's produced a lot of ROI for the club, but it isn't La Masia either.

He looks Okidoakey.

[article]Former Celtic youth player Ben Doak "just didn't want to stay" at the club despite being given first-team game-time, according to his agent.

After playing just two times for the Scottish champions under Ange Postecoglou, he moved to Liverpool at the end of last season.

Since joining the Merseyside club, he has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 16 appearances for the youth teams this campaign.

The Scotland under-21 international also made his Anfield debut against Derby County in a recent League Cup match as he continues to work his way up the ranks.

His recent good form also earned him a place in Jurgen Klopp's squad for the club's training camp in Dubai.

Now his agent, former Celtic skipper Jackie McNamara, has revealed that he felt that Doak making an appearance against rivals Rangers might have persuaded the winger to stay at the club.

The Hoops academy graduate came on as a substitute during the 3-0 victory against the Ibrox side in February in what proved to be his last appearance for the club.

"In fairness, I thought the derby game might have swung it," he told the BBC. "Because my whole thing was, show the kid that you're going to keep him, show him that he's not behind six or seven other players.

"He doesn't want to play against Civil Service Strollers in the B team. But for the derby game he was getting bombarded for tickets, for this, for that, down where he lived in Ayrshire.

"He turned his phone off. You forget he was only 16. I asked what he was thinking and he just didn't want to stay.

"When Ben went down to visit Liverpool, Klopp said 'Ah Ben, I've seen your stuff'. Straight away he was made to feel really welcome."

Tommy McIntyre, former Hoops B team coach and someone who Doak played under for a short period, says the Parkhead side did do what they could to keep the 17-year-old on their books.

"Celtic did try their very best to keep him," he said. "They gave him that platform to perform on the big stage, but it was ultimately his decision.

"He was always highly thought of. It was only age that prevented me from bringing him in earlier to the B team, as you need to be 16.

"He wasn't with me long before Ange took him up to the first team. He's so exciting because he's a player that gets fans off their seat - when he gets the ball, he's so direct.

"He's got blistering pace and has a trick as well. He can get past people, he provides crosses into the box, he creates chances, he finishes."

McIntyre also praised the mindset of the Scotland under-21 international, commenting on how his attitude will take him right to the top.

"For someone so young to have that mental toughness is a great attribute to have," he added.

"The way he approached things was incredible. He has a real wining mentality and you could see that with the way he played. He was a joy to work with."[/article]

Dare I say reminds me a little of Sterling when I was watching him as a 16/17 year old kid in our u21s just before being called to the senior squad.

A fearless kid who integrated with the first team and didn't look out of place.
