They're doing a comparison on Redcafe atm.
I have to say, right now I wouldn't say that Trent is better but at the same age? Yeah Trent is waaay better.

One's an overrated posterboy who shagged a pop star and one's a brilliant footballer.

That's your comparison right there.

And in so doing he managed to get under the skin of his cunt manager even pushing him to physical violence, so there is that.

Beckham's position on the right hand side of that United midfield four is almost an obsolete position nowadays, isn't it? Like Ray Parlour at Arsenal. The wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 who isn't really a winger. If Beckham was playing now he's probably (try to) be playing as some deep lying playmaker or creative central midfielder.

The only comparison between them is they are both exceptional ball strikers.

Trent has way more going for him.

Trents cross for Firmino the other day was exactly the sort of pass Beckham used to hit, early dropping over the defenders shoulder into the area between the penalty spot and the six yard box. When its done well its impossible to defend against.

Very true, but the right sided midfielder in a midfield trio has a similar job nowadays. Like Milner or Hendo sometimes. Imagine Trent having that position. He can help the right back in defence, he can provide superb crosses and we'll also see him getting more shooting opportunities.
England has a lack decent midfielders atm and are stocked in defence. Let Wan-Bissaka or that Chelsea right back have at it and move Trent into midfield I say.

Beckham gets a harsh rap because he seemed more concerned with being a celebrity. He was a great footballer.

At the same age, though? Hmm probably Trent.

Interesting story I heard about Beckham was his impact at Real Madrid. They thought they were buying a marquee, poster boy signing and weren't that bothered about what he brought to the team as a player - they knew he could hold his own but it wasn't really a footballing decision. But his professionalism on the training ground was a massive jump up from the rest of the squad and they felt like his example made a lot of their other players raise their game.

Beckham had exceptional stamina and work rate when he came through. In Liverpool’s system, I could imagine him doing perfectly well at right back where the onus is to get right up the pitch and put great crosses in. I thought he was pretty ordinary by the time he’d left Madrid, but his passing was pretty exceptional particularly during his Manchester days.
Having said that Trent’s easily better at the same age.

I’ve always heard his attitude to training and improvement was second to none.

I think people may be misremembering Beckham. At the same age as Trent he was excellent, a starting player in a league winning team with a range of passing that was miles ahead of his peers. If anything his problem was that he started brillaintly and then didnt really evolve for about 10 years. Id say they are about the same now, but Trent has the potential to go further.

No way - whatever you think about Beckham - he was the best crosser of a football that has ever lived, and turned out to be a very good free kick specialist. Trent is quite consistent himself but not as much as Beckham was - absolutely lethal cross, and a key part of what made Man United such a success while he played for them.
