@Liddellpool: Xabi Alonso will be free to speak to other teams about his future in January of 2014 according to Marca.

Would you? I'm not sure he'd solve our midfield issues but he's boss and its Xabi.

Since it's definitely a position of need, it's worth a shout, but only on reasonable wages.

That certainly won't happen. He's still a word class midfielder and they don't come cheap.
A good two year contract would be more realistic.
Won't happen though.

Would it not be a bit of a risk though, having two players in their 30s in central midfield?

I'm sort of playing devils advocate here, cos I'd definitely have him in that piss poor side I saw yesterday in a heartbeat, however I think the question needs asking.

It would certainly need managing carefully, but so would any significant introduction to the side and Rodgers has already said we need more signings.

I'm on media blackout mode. I do this when we lose.

It helps me not getting too pissed off.

No radio, no live TV, no twitter or Facebook.

Fucking Rodgers & his four centre backs.

Well he'd certainly improve us, but then again that's not to hard to achieve considering how shite the Stevie/Lucas combination is.

As long as we see these two playing the majority of our league games together in CM, then I highly doubt we'll be genuine top four contenders.

Utd have been doing it for years... With Giggs and Scholes and now Carrick. Ain't stopped them being successful.

I do that too..No Talk sport on Monday either... Tuesday will be about right till everything is back to normal

Xabi at about 38 would help this team. Sadly, Steven's overwhelmed by the burden of trying to do everything for the team - logically it would probably liberate him to take the captaincy off him, play him further forward, or even back on the right, and tell him to enjoy himself, but obviously he's a prisoner of his own status, and the team is, too. Alonso would teach all the other midfielders in this squad to use their brains, which is just what they need. But he won't come here.

I think the group needs another adult.

As an extra senior player and vastly experienced player I reckon Rodgers should be all over this. The wealth of footballing knowledge and ability would be massively positive for the younger players as well as what he could offer on the pitch. Xabi must be a prime candidate to head into management after his career is finished.

I'd suggest a small fee to get him in Jan. Rather than wait.

He may be looking for the bosman pay off though

Sent from a mobile device - apologies for any crap

Let's just offer Real £4mil and give Xabi a couple of million in signing on fee. Any money we spend on him will be money well spent.

He is out injured at the moment but I say we should sign him in a heart beat would help us out massively

Reasonable wages for what he's worth I mean. He was only earned 4.5M euros in 2012, that's a very decent figure for us to match or improve some on.

I'm not sure how the tax code compares though.
