Yeh he does. To be fair though I thought it was a soft pen as Walters led in with his arm and knocked Carragher off balance. The arm Carra threw up was as much to retain balance as anything else. The general hand wringing malaise on here because we undeservedly lost a game was shameful at times. People need to step back and take a look at where we were 12 months ago. It's not "the same old Liverpool" at all. It's a much improved squad that played well at a ground we tend to get outmuscled but fell short of some finishing and some dubious refereeing. Seeing the club brought back from the brink and heading in the right direction is not enough for some people though. People expect overnight miracles and instant success. It's the same with young players - people expect instant world class players. People expect we can compete financially with these clubs who have massive funds at their disposal when we can't - especially when what drives most footy players these days is nothing more than greed save a few exceptions. It's not about being sentimental or anything like that - it's about having opinion based in at least some reality. It's a shame a lot of fans are so impatient these days and react on whatever their opinion du jour is but I've come to expect it from the Sky football generation who lap up the media sensationalism that surrounds footy these days. I can't even bring myself to read some threads on these forums at times- as some attitudes towards this club and some players who play for it are fucking shameful.
Yep it was as soft a penalty as you'll see. And my comments about his distribution were tongue in cheek. As I've said earlier in the thread, I'll let Dalglish decide when its time to bench him.

Hahahaaaaaa !

Argue with some variables instead

Next game: against Tottenham, they'll play Adebayor. If Kelly and Johnson aren't fit which may happen, we have a RB problem. Against Bale so someone with pace.

Adebayor will get the better of Carra physically. I'd play Agger and Coates cause the kid should be ready. He was superb for Uruguay and is a phenom. Would be happy to have Skrtel there, unfortunately we don't have a faster RB than Skrtel if Kelly and Johnson our out. FACK

maybe it's just me, but it seems the reaction against the criticism is far more hysterical than any reaction against carra himself. has anyone really been slating him on here? about the worst offender i can remember is Neil, but i'd hardly call it offensive.
You know what though Peter, it's not really the reaction to the criticism, it's the reaction to the people who are having a go, the usual lot who want us to have four elegant pussies at the back and who are happy to overlook errors elsewhere if it's their personal favourites, as the lack of acknowledging Agger's part in the whole defensive fuck up proves, ie. the fact he was yards ahead of the rest of the defence, leaving a gaping hole for 'hapless in the air' Peter Crouch to knock the ball into.

I don't think i've been guilty of that so i'm happy!

*with the odd exception 😉

I mean, some of the people who were quick to jump on him are the ones who are always quick to jump on him (or Skrtel for that matter), because let's face it, Carra's just hoofball yard-dog.

But has anyone actually said this Mark? Even those in this thread that are staunch supporters of Carragher say he has a high opinion of his own distribution skills. Those who are in favour of dropping him are putting their case forward in respectful way, at least in my eyes they are.

agreed. fwiw i don't want him dropped, not sure if i made that clear before, although i do think we should be actively looking for the right time to phase him out, but i'd be saying the same of any ageing player.

as for his critics being the same old usual suspects who only care about a defender's technique, well, i'll have to bow to superior knowledge. i really wouldn't know.

PErsonally i'm up for phasing him out as the sooner we can bed in coates/agger or skrtel/agger or whatever permutation we eventually decide to go with, then we'll be the better for it.

Realistic title challenge may be too much (for some people) this season, so we could arguably use this time to make sure we're as strong as we possibly can be without having to rely on older stars

Yes, I'd drop him but I think Kenny will tell him he's number one and will stick with him.

Oncy, you have been out of order in this thread. You want people to come onto these boards and post their views yet you've called anyone who has disagreed with you 'a superfan wanker'. Nice.
No i havnt called anyone who disagreed with me 'superfan wanker' you mellodramatic bellend.
There are a number of posts (ie Vlads above) that i happen to agree with, and if you check back, on more than one occassion i have hinted that it may be better for our 'football playing' if Carragher wasnt in the team. I
happy to explore the options and always have been, but by the same token as when i deride the stupid fucking nugget of 'skrtel has a penalty/mistake in him' i will defend our vice captain and Liverpool Legend from the happy clappy morons who want to write him off because he made A mistake.
Its the same principle as those who have fuck all to say about (ie) Lucas and Kuyt when they are playing well only to start a thread the minute they have a bad game with the usual fucking tactical shite about how the shape of the team is ruined by them and we need attacking fullbacks and a diamond and all sorts of other wank. Its disrespectful to players who give their heart and soul to the cause.
Maybe your right, maybe its me whos out of step with the modern fan. If thats the case, then good, but i wont apologise for it.
A-fucking-men.

And I'd assert that more people are put off this board by the unnecessary flogging of our longest and most loyal servants, than by the occasional barbed comment to the usual fucking champ-manager-hero suspects
Thanks fuck someone else said and thinks that.

I was about to burn the fucking internet down in the summer during that Aquifuckinglani wankfest.

Well said Sunny

if coates gives a dominant performance at brighton then it will be interesting to see if it pushes forward his league debut.

This thread is madness!

It depends what you mean by "drop" Carra. His experience is valuable but physically he is clearly getting a bit "past-it" in the ultra-competitive environment of the Premier League. He is having to resort to desperate measures to stop opponents - sometimes he gets away with it and sometimes he doesn't. I think referees still have a lot of respect for him which helps.

I am therefore in favour of Carra spending more time on the bench but not banishing him altogether, in case our young defenders are in need of sorting out. 🙂

I think the bottom line is you've got to trust kenny, if he feels carra is up the job then you have to trust that. kenny doesn't seem the type to bottom a tough choice for the sake of sentimentality.

That poll is a fucking disgrace.

As are some of the comments in this thread. I've tried not to post in this thread cos it's pissed me off so much, but I have to.

We'll see at the end of the season exactly what input Carra has to our season, but I bet it's a fucking big & fucking positive one.

Oh, & BTW, anyone who genuinely thinks putting in Coates against Spurs this weekend, & especially Everton in a couple of weeks, is a better option than Carra is completely mental.

I haven't posted in this topic because left brain and right brain are having an argument about it.

foxy, why get all bent out of shape? I think we can agree carra is in his 'twilight' years (i.e. full of angst and sparkly) so he is eventually going to phased out. when is that going to happen? next year? two years from now? I think some people would rather see that happen sooner rather than later. that doesn't take anything away from legendary status at the club, it's not like anyone has insulted carra unless suggestions that carra be dropped 'is' an insult.

People keep missing the point entirely about why alot of us are aggrieved. The people who are pissed off about it have mostly said that yes, he's getting on a bit and we need to look at the future and begin the process of easing another player in. No problems there. The issue for me is that it's the likes of Modo and Neil who are the quickest to advocate it, when they're the ones who've oft been quickest to label him a hoof merchant. Quick to dismiss gritty all action defenders but too eager and too rose-tinted when it comes to players who are a bit more elegant. There's room for both at the end of the day. And it just about says it all that my pointing out Agger's part in the 'fuck up' went largely overlooked. Watch it again.

It does dismay me that the poll is so high, as said earlier, it's a load of Championship Manager nonsense at times on here.
