I loathe to put carragher in, not because he's on the wane or anything like that, because we need to think long term and see how coates does without an organisational master next to him, because theres no guarantee we'd buy one as good as carra ever again

I think we'd be better to have him with our most experienced player beside him, teach him the ropes. Ease him in while we can, then if he does ok, give him a few games later on with Skrtel, or whoever.

It's exactly how fergie has bedded in his CB's who many have written off time & again & it's only improved them, most of whom didn't have coates pedigree behind them when they joined utd.
