Wouldn't surprise me if Carra played a blinder on Sunday. That's just the type of him.

At the same time, i don't think people should we so sensitive to the prospect of him being dropped.
Maybe the title of the thread isn't right - maybe it should be more a question of 'If Carra continues to make mistakes and doesn't look the force he once was...should we look to ease him out of the team'

I do think Carra's acceleration isn't there nowadays. One of the biggest misconceptions in the game is that he never had pace...he in fact did and made some remarkable recovery tackles through having a burst of pace over 10-15 years. Just because Henry's left Carra for dead a few times in the past people automatically think he must be slow, but Henry in his pomp would outrun the vast majority of defenders. Such was the frightening speed he possessed.

It's not about a guaranteed spot - no-one should be guaranteed a spot. It's about dropping Carragher. There's even call to throw Coates, who I really rate BTW, straight in. I think that's all very premature. There's no doubt Carra is coming to end of his career but when the time is right for Carra to be replaced - whoever that may be - I think it will happen. I simply don't think that time is now. As the season progresses who knows. There's also the dubious element of whether Agger can stay fit for a full season to contend with as well. Again someone I rate but consistency has yet to be proven.

Is the right question which of course the answer would be yes.

Reallistically who is there to replace him now ? Skrtel has been a massive liability at times but looks to have improved of late. Wilson - not a chance. Kelly - fitness issues and doubtful whether CB is his best position. Coates - new to the country, club and league. Carra does have to be replaced eventually that is without doubt but it has to be with a player who can give an improvement over the player he replaces.

Skrtel hasn't been a liability for well over a season.

I'll never understand the skrtel hate. I think he's good enough to be a starter every week tbh. He's a fantastic combative cb, he just suffers from comparisons with agger who people like because he's good at bringing the ball out. If skrtel could organize a defence if say he'd be in the top 10 defenders in the league

Yeah I pretty much agree with this.

What gets me annoyed in threads like this one is that, although you are 100% correct in saying that noone should be guaranteed a first team place, some seem to think that Agger is, and so you get threads about the centre backs that are based around the assumption that it is Agger plus one, whereas in reality for every time Carra has looked a bit dodgy, there are at least a dozen times when Agger has been injured or has fucked up too.

People are ready to jump on Carra, almost with glee, but the reasons for doing so are not fairly applied across the board

I don't like the presumption of agger + 1. Really pisses me off. Skrtel is as good as agger

There's some sane posters debating (well) the merits of the two possible outcomes of the poll.

Then there are the idiot knee jerkers (like fucking Modo - btw, ignore works with this idiotic twat). I will await the "Should we drop Gerrard?" poll from Neil or Modo immediately after Gerrard has a bad game.

The issue is, some people have perspective and judgement, some people just want to stir it up. I've nodded in agreement at posts fromFabio, Portly, Vlad, Mark, Jon, Andy, Grjt and Sunny to name but a few. People who, most of the time will can can debate and have for both sides of the debate.

*Sigh*
Feel free to ignore me, but take it easy with the name-calling.
I don't have to be sensitive when I present my opinion, if it bothers you, so be it.

Modo in missunderstanding how 'Ignore' works shocka!
[/quote]
Don't think the ignore function is flawless. I think you can read quoted posts from an ignored user.
You can always pick the "show me" option. Did it on your post.

Thats why i didnt quote you....hence you missunderstanding. And me being all good samaritany for big J.

I'm working on a flawless ignore system as we speak Modo. I'm calling it the "Off Button"

Let's just end this thread with the "Kings" input:

JAMIE CARRAGHER ESCAPES AXE

17th September 2011 By Neil Johnston

KENNY DALGLISH will not axe under-pressure Jamie Carragher – despite warning him his success with Liverpool counts for nothing.

Carragher conceded the penalty which allowed Stoke’s Jon Walters to sentence the Reds to their first defeat of the campaign last Saturday.

It came after another slip-up enabled Ivan Klasnic to score Bolton’s consolation in a 3-1 defeat at Anfield in the previous game.

Dalglish plans to keep faith at Tottenham tomorrow with the 33-year-old, whose glittering Liverpool career includes two FA Cups, two League Cups and a Champions League.

But the Reds boss insisted the defender’s past success with the club does not guarantee him a place in the side.

Dalglish said: “Nobody will get picked for their history.

“The people who have been involved with the club for a long time would expect that. They would not want it.

“They have got extremely high standards set for themselves.

“If they didn’t they wouldn’t be here and wouldn’t have had the success they have had.

“Jamie Carragher will do me just fine the way he is.

“I don’t know what I can say to you about him because there is nothing that I would like to change about him.”

White Hart Lane is hardly Carragher’s favourite stomping ground.

Last season the former England star dislocated his shoulder in a 2-1 defeat. And in August 2009 he suffered a head injury at Spurs after a clash of heads with team-mate Martin Skrtel.
