If Kenny can't bench him, then Carra should do it himself out of love for the club.

He's been a great player. But he's been absolute shite this year.

Yes. He's going to tarnish a great reputation if he continues this shite. A shadow of the player from four years ago.

Carra moved over to the left to challenge Walters, where was super Daniel Agger?
Being masterbated on by ALL the overseas posters.

It was the hoofing that annoyed me more than anything yesterday.

I love Carra as much as anyone, the man is a Liverpool legend but i don't know what he was thinking launching the ball up to Kuyt and Suarez at every opportunity...food and drink for Shawcross and Upson. It's not as if we don't have midfielders that can't get on the ball either so there was no excuse for it.

I wouldn't drop him, but another dodgy game or two then his place in the team surely comes under threat. Agger is clearly is fine form and touch wood remains injury free, Skrtel is playing well and obviously this Coates lad will be pushing hard.

It would be a massive story if the great man was to be dropped but as he's said himself recently...no-one can take their place for granted.

Which couldn't be any more wrong, I've just watched it again, Carra, Skrtel and Enrique are all in line, Agger is about 8 yards ahead of them trying to challenge Crouch for a header, Crouch flicks it on and the rest is history. Super Whooper Dan.

i'm not sure if i want him dropped really. he's not the player he was, but he's nothing like the liability i've seen some people call him. the main reason to drop him, for me, is that he's coming to the end, we need to try to plan for the future, and that 'if it were done when tis done, t'were well it were done quickly.'

in the last couple of years you could argue that you'd lose more from not having him in the side in the short term than you'd gain in the long term from forging a new partnership, but i'm not sure if that's true anymore, especially now coates is here.

He's not actually playing that badly, he's just made a couple of errors that certain people are only too willing to jump on..

I need to watch it again as I've only seen the game once but from what I can remember the defenders are in line except carra who is deepest making the challenge.

course they're willing to jump on the mistakes, the mistakes lead to goals one of which cost us a point, you make it sound like carra's mistakes resulted in corners or throw-ins.

I am going to rely on Kenny to do the right thing at the right time. After all, he works with these people every day, we only get to see 90 mins a week.
Is absolutely correct.
And the tragic part is that it started with the mistake against Bolton (Ie one game ago) and the story from the mongbrigade is 'for months' or 'all year' or 'for so long' FUCK OFF with that shit.
Personally i see Agger and Skrtel as the long term partnership but being as Agger cant play more than 5 games in a row its difficult.
Carra is far from finished and i remember post like this about Hyppia for years before he left and then 2 years of the self same fucking tactical bellends saying we shouldnt have sold him.

This doesn't have to become another polarised debate.

Carra has taken a few games to reach his level for the past three seasons or so, and it seems again this year. I don't think anyone can argue against the fact that he's probably dropping a couple of percentage points off his best potential with every year that passes (same for most) and that he's a year closer to the inevitable day he'll not be first choice. Thing is, as he becomes less mobile/slower to react he won't have the luxury of being able to fall back upon a silky passing game or prodigious heading ability.

Given he's cost us in two games out of 4 so far it's surely perfectly reasonable to be questioning his place in the side for the next game, especially given we've got an extremely promising (and surprisingly experienced) young prospect to blood and an able deputy in Skrtel on the bench.

That said, I'd stick with Carra for now and assume he'll be back in the groove come mid-late september and go on to give us another commanding and inspiring season.

We shouldn;t be afraid to drop him though should the need arise.

But it's not one mistake and at 33 it's normal that he will have lost some pace and be in decline, it's not a case of if but when and Agger and Skrtel are both good players in their own right. My main concern would be organisational ability (especially for the RB). It isn't a case of just one 'dubious penalty' that's two big mistakes already in just 4 games (though not both costing us goals) but importantly it's more than that.

At one point in the 2nd half I started counting how Carra distributed the ball because it seemed he was hoofing it every time he received it ... the details are in the match thread but in 15 minutes it went something like this : 5 hoofs, 3 back-passes to Reina and 3 passes to his fellow defenders ... and that was after his previous hoofing that caused me to start the count. It's not good enough.

Previously we could overlook this due to his defensive prowess but if he is losing what pace he used to have, and is now making more major errors leading to us conceding goals .... then the gradual replacement process should begin sooner rather than later.

Neil, they're all in line bar Agger who is ahead of the play. Crouch flicks the ball into the space behind (vacated by Agger) and Carra then chases with Walters. He got isolated. He make a mess of the challenge and it's fair to say that Walters was more than effective with his strength and pretty mobile too but the first fuck up is Agger being out of position.
