What's the deal with Hendo?

What do you mean what does he do?

I find it weird you see Enrique's thing as being quick and strong but Henderson doesn't have a thing? He's as quick as Enrique, as tenacious as Lucas, those are things.

Then add in he's the only central midfielder that presses the ball properly and the only one with the legs to break into the box and get beyond the striker. His thing is energy.

If you want to ask what he does as a central midfielder the answer is everything, he's our only box to box midfielder and the only energetic player we have in the middle.

I don't think you actually like Henderson.

I doubt there's much in it, but I always thought Carra and Cole were 100k+ ? I also can't see it being legal, if even possible, for the FA to be handing out figures on player wages.

Regardless, and whether he did 'bits' last season or not, we need to fuck Downing right off.

At the moment I doubt anyone who doesn't watch him in training every day really has a good sense of the player - and role - he's going to develop into, but they can see that he's currently one of those players who's invaluable for a team aspiring to greater things - he's technically sound, tactically aware, full of energy, and he's willing and versatile enough to play a variety of positions.

Yes he's got energy and he works hard, but he's quite average at everything else.
If he's a box to box player like you say he is, he's isn't a very good one.
Going by your description he should be in the starting line up, but he isn't for some reason and I believe it's because he doesn't impose himself enough to be there.

Also, I don't think he is as quick as Enrique or as tenacious as Lucas.

The point was valid, you champion Enrique largely based on physical assets than technical ones, he's not particularly outstanding at any aspect of defending or attacking, he's just a solid player who might improve to be a good reliable and effective left back. The same can more or less be said of Henderson, except he does give us something we don't have - energy and ability to cover ground in the middle, if you add that he's now started to get more physical, added more goals to his game AND he looks like one of few players who's passionate about playing for the club, I don't really see how you can champion one and play down the other. It smacks of what you always seem to do with players, unless they're Johnny-Fifa Street, you think that amounts to not being very good, which is clearly myopic and a load of bollocks.

Maybe you should just reply to what I actually say then instead of making up arguments, I didn't say I believe he should be starting just that he offers things others don't.

I had a quick look at the stats and he's scored twice as many as your beloved Coutinho and one less assist in 4 more starts, all whilst running his balls off.

Saying 'don't get me wrong I like him' is thinly veiled cover for having someone to whinge about yet again,
why do you always need a player to complain about? Is he your Charlie Adam for the coming season?

There's no discussion, you have an opinion of a player and nothing will change it, what's the point.

Oh yes, of course, he lacks pace. That's a given.

Just because I think Enrique is quicker doesn't make him slow.

I barely saw anyone get passed Enrique last season. He easily shrugs players off the ball and is quick to track back. That makes him outstanding at winning the ball imo. He could improve his crossing and passing though.

Coutinho is on a different level, I'll just leave it at that.

Compared to Charlie, I saw potential in Hendo and I gave him time considering his inexperience.
The reason I started this thread is because I couldn't work out what he actually brings to the table.

Is he a holding midfielder, maybe? If yes does he posses the skills to make that spot his own?

Is he a box to box midfielder, maybe? If yes does carry the attacking threat to make that spot his own?

Is he a playmaker, maybe? If yes does he have the vision and the passing range to make that spot his own?

To me he just seems like a versatile midfielder who does a decent job in any role.
Basically a squad player. But we didn't buy him for squad player money and apparently we aren't paying him a squad player salary. So I guess I expect more from him.

Regarding the bit about changing my mind about players, I changed my mind about Sturridge didn't I?
But I don't see any reason to change my mind about some of the other players I don't' fancy.

I do like Hendo and if you want proof, do a quick search.

Football Manager demo? Ahaha.

For the record, i'd be very surprised if even the FA knows what figures our players are on, yet alone football fucking manager.

I can see it now.

The inscription on your tombstone.

Don't get me wrong I like him and I think last season was probably his best premiership season ever, but what does he actually do?

Bare with me.
I'm not baring anything. Especially not as part of some group activity.....

He just turned 23 a week ago, and has shown significant improvement from season to season. I like the runs he makes out of the MF a lot, something we need since Lucas/Allen are less aggressive. His finishing isn't amazing, but it's better than I would expect from him, he just needs to be more aggressive in making those bursting runs this coming season.

I think Hendo is our captain of the future, and if he can develop to scoring 10+ goals and 5-10 assists a season, which is feasible in our system, then he can cement that place.

Henderson's great, one stand out feature doesn't make you a successful footballer. He's strong, a good runner, decent passer and okay finisher, he gives 300% too. He's a fantastic squad option, and will continue to grow. I said last year that he'll be an automatic starter next season (2014-2015), based upon his improvement last season, I still believe he will be.
Disagree. Allen will start more games than hendo that's for sure. Hendo is alright, but nothing special imo. Good athlete who works hard. Decent squad player to have. But like allen doesn't impose himself in a game. We need better than him starting regular games.

I think Hendo is our captain of the future.

you're tripping if you think this lad has the bottle to captain us long term .

anyway he's been here 2 seasons , if he has something about him like most of you seem to think then he better show it next season . And i don't just mean "he has potential" performances , i mean proper consistent high quality ones.
We'll be the new arsenal , banging on about potential 5 yrs down the line.
