What's the deal with Hendo?

Modo

Don't get me wrong I like him and I think last season probably was his best premiership season ever, but what does he actually do?

Bear with me.

Most of our players have a certain skill set, they might be good dribblers like Coutinho, quick and strong like Enrique or tenacious and intelligent like Lucas (yes I said it).

But what distinct skill set does Hendo possess that's sets him apart from other players?

What's his actual role in the team?

I mean if you're supposed to be part of the midfield three in the starting line up, you need to bring something to the table.
Lucas protects the back line and is our ball winner, Gerrard controls the midfield and Coutinho seems to be our playmaker.

Was Henderson ever MOM last season? (correction he was MOM in one game)

Can he take charge and be an integral part of our team?

I rate Hendo because he's dedicated and works hard, but despite his goals and the occasional assists to me he just seems average.

What's your take?

I thought he was irredeemably shit at the start of last season but he's ok.

Lucas on the other hand.

Jack of all trades, master of none

But he's boss. He provides work rate

It's not enough to be able to do one thing in the midfield Modo.

Henderson brings a good all round game, he works hard, is capable of splitting defences with passes and chips in with the odd goals - which is what any decent midfielder should be able to do.

Pretty much. He captained the u21 side but he wasn't commanding at all. He just did what he usually does, plays it simple and stays out of trouble.
You can't make a Suso style youtube vid out of that.

Henderson looks like he has the potential to grow in stature as he matures and gains confidence. It may not happen but the raw talent is basically there - he has a good touch, an awareness of what is around him, decent vision and passing ability and has the ability to get onto the scoresheet now and again. He's not exceptional at any one thing right now but then we may not need him to be.

He was a luxury purchase when we bought him and overpriced one at that but he's here now and I don't think that's a bad thing. We've seen the benefits of having good versatile squad players at Utd over the years.

Henderson's great, one stand out feature doesn't make you a successful footballer. He's strong, a good runner, decent passer and okay finisher, he gives 300% too. He's a fantastic squad option, and will continue to grow. I said last year that he'll be an automatic starter next season (2014-2015), based upon his improvement last season, I still believe he will be.

I think Hendo is a decent athlete and that is his strength. At best he could be in the midfield 2. I see perhaps a long-term position as holding midfielder. He just doesn't have the tekkers to play further forward in Brendans system.

The upside of having someone like Henderson is that he'll probably never leave the club unless he's forced out. Unlike so many others.

Exactly, that's basically his role in the u21s. So I guess Hendo is competing with Lucas. Allen should never play in that holding role.

His wages are a serious issue for me, thats why I think we should sell him. We can get a better player for half his wages.

What wages is he on ?
