What are your expectations of Rodgers, Insig? And how do you feel he's failing to meet them?
To be honest I was puzzled and very unimpressed by the yankees when it came to the hunt for a new manager. Martinez seemed to be front man for a while, and Rodgers was clear on his view for the job; No DOF and No interview if others are in the hunt for the job. So in a way it seem like when offered he took the job basis a defiant belief that what had happened at Swansea was what it takes to lift Liverpool. My expectation and probably fear was that he is too unexperienced and would not succeed in making us any better than last season (and I know last season was to very different halves). I am then talking about the potential that we saw in the team the start of last season. My hope was that he was brave enough to not feel the pressure, and actually slowly correct what was wrong from last season, and not go for a total refurbishment. I did not for a minute believe that he could come in and apply some fancy tiki taka football and make us look like Barcelona. This was based on that even if Swansea was not very poor last season, they definately were no top 6 material.
Were has he succeeded and were did he fail? Ill put in views on both sides, which i actually have done throughout the season, well aware that you will only read the failures and claim I am moaning.
Failures:
To put it a bit bold: Rodgers ego has so far written out cheques that his body ain't able to cash in!
- He came with a clear definition on what was wrong with our club before he even met the squad. In his head certain players did not have what it take to progress, and the replacements he lined up (Allen, Gylfi, Dempsey, Borini) is in my mind not exactly filled with top 6 experience or potential. Hendo, Downing, Shelvey and Enrique were all on a public fuck off list. Even if I supported to offload Downing, I don't agree on the over cocky "I know bettet than Kenny" approach regarding these players.
- The transfers he has brought in has been failures all of them bar Sturridge. He has given Allen to much time, and he has praised him when he has publicly slaughtered others. Sahin was a high profiel signing which he clearly had no strategy for. Borini came in and left Carroll in the cold without producing anything. Assaidi brought in as a proper winger in contrast to Downing. The Dempsey hunt left me baffled as well.
- He has probably a sort of system in his mind somewere. This is something he must have sold in to the owners. This system took Reading to new hights and put Swansea in top half with limited resources. With a better squad than Swansea he has failed to implement the system, and he has failed to get the best out of our Key Players bar Suarez.
- On a more personal note (I feel this is a failure by him) he has shown himself as a poor tactician in game after game by getting both his starting line up and subs wrong, forcing him to shuffle around his team often before half time. To me he has failed to play his squad to the strengths and by that also placed us in a worse position than we should be.
Successes:
- We have managed to get down the wage bill, and shipped out players that probably had fullfilled their potential by now. I like Maxi and Kuyt as players and role models, but I feel they would only become more unefficient in the seasons to come. I believe we must have a more sound cost versus income ratio now.
- He has brought Sterling and Suso through to the first team, which will be valuable to us in the future. However I think he has played them both far to much, and failed to give them proper rest when they obviously need it.
- He got us through a decent group in Europe, which will give us something to fight for in the last part of the season.
