Utd's Striker shortage

It may be them and us fighting for fourth. Last season we were a striker short of fourth spot (imho), and this season coming we've invested hugely in the area we were short in.
Utd have spent money, but with VP gone and Hernandez being up for sale, their only recognised striker and correct me if I am wrong is Rooney.
LVG recently told reporters ahead of United's pre-season clash against San Jose Earthquakes: "He [the 'surprise striker] is in the process.

"It's not the striker the media has written about. You have to wait and see. The transfer period is open until September 1 so we have to wait."

So who is Utd going to buy?

Van Gaal does likes to twat it up to a big tall striker as his backup plan.

Luckily Zlatan fucking hates him. He insisted on selling him at Ajax.

I'd probably swap Rooney for all of our strikers combined... I'd not be too worried if I were a utd fan. They'll no doubt bring in a class forward in the next few weeks

I think that's almost certainly right, but for me their defence will still need a fair bit of work. Valencia at RB, Jones and Smalling at CB and Shaw at LB would not fill me with confidence if I were a supporter of theirs [shudders at the thought], especially if de Gea buggers off.

He has a master plan, it involves switching squad numbers about a bit but most fans will be pleased to see that Fellaini is getting the number 9.

There's been talk of Blind being played CB because LvG likes having a left footed one. It was him talking about it as an option. Hope it's true.

Yeah, Rummenigge was quoted a day or so ago as saying he might leave, and I wondered if that was to prepare Bayern fans for the news.

Rooney can't play 60 games up top. I can't see what big name striker would be likely to go there, and he's claiming it's not going to be anyone that's been linked in the press, and considering they've been linked with everyone, he's either lying, or it's a no name random.
But all in all, good news, fuck them. The cunts

I sincerely doubt Muller would go there to sit on the bench. That is United's problem - LvG has already told everyone that Rooney is playing striker next season so whoever goes there is not going to be a guaranteed starter. Cavani is still most people's guess and at least he's adaptable.

Could be anybody or could be nobody

However, I think we are likely to see one big name signing every season with the Ed in charge. Hasn't worked so far but eventually one of them should click.
Muller, Ronaldo, Bale or Zlatan all have about the same chance of playing for us next season as I do.

I wouldnt be too disappointed with Rooney, Hernandez (will only be sold if someone comes in) and Wilson going into the season with Depay, Fellani and even Januzaj as emergency backups.

I think you should be. Your midfield has improved, but Rooney and Hendendez aren't enough to get you challenging for the league, which given the money you've spent in recent years is exactly what you should be doing. We were walking advertisement last season for a club with a weak strikeforce. I'd love for you experience something similar.

This year the challenge should be a top 4 position again.

The following year we should be looking at a title challenge. Still too many new but needed faces to get a good start.

Probably.

But did I see a stat that you have spent £300m since your man left?

Surely that's a sign of gross mismanagement - either before or after he left - if you're not waltzing away with titles after spending that sort of money in two seasons. Or it may just reflect how good he was, getting what he did out of a depleted squad. Probably a bit of both, really.

Not sure if even any of the oil clubs have ever done that, though. And they spend like drunken sailors as a matter of course.

I think spending was kept to a minimum before SAF retired. Possibly because he didn't need it to win or maybe to give his successor(s) free reign and open cheque book to rebuild.

Chelsea spent £200m 12 years ago before winning the title and that bought far more back then.

City spent almost £500m before they won the title

I can't see United going into the new seasin with just Rooney as an out and out striker. Fully expect they will go big on a forward before the window shuts. Muller or Pedro looks most likely at this point.

Nice as all this faux nonchalance and ambivalence is, let's be fucking real - none of us want them to get Muller.

Cheeky Nando? Llorente is under consideration as United seek another striker
Louis van Gaal's mystery transfer target can be revealed as Juventus striker Fernando Llorente, writes David McDonnell in San Francisco.
Manchester United boss Van Gaal admitted during the club’s current pre-season tour in the US that he is after a forward, but refused to disclose the player's identity.
However, the Old Trafford giants have been offered giant Spain international Llorente and have asked to be “kept informed” of his situation.
The link to 30-year-old Llorente emerged as Angel Di Maria’s proposed £45m move to Paris Saint-Germain edged nearer as officials from the French club held talks with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on Monday in London.
United are looking at a range of options to bolster their forward line, after allowingRobin van Persie and Radamel Falcao to leave this summer.

They have been linked with moves for Thomas Muller of Bayern Munich and Barcelona’s Pedro, but Van Gaal is now said to be considering a move for Llorente.
Llorente, 30, has struggled since joining Juventus from Athletic Bilbao two years ago, managing just 27 goals in 90 appearances.
He was restricted to five minutes as a late sub as Juve lost 3-1 to Barcelona in the Champions League final and is looking to move this summer.
United, however, will face competition for Llorente from Real Madrid, who are said to be ready to bid for the 6ft 5in front-man.
Van Gaal bemoaned United’s lack of height last season, and the arrival of Llorente would certainly help to address that issue.
But the Dutchman has been coy on the identity of the forward he is after, saying: “It’s not the striker the media has written. But you have to wait and see.”
