They don't get it!

Follow on from Oncy's thread, but change the premise a bit. Players you thought were amazing but nobody else seemed to. Or they didn't get the recognition they deserved.

I'll go for two fairly lame shouts since that I think someone could come up with better ones. Firstly, Nedved. I think he should be mentioned in the same breath as the greatest players of his generation. Although I do think he won European footballer of the year?

T'other would be Clarence Seedorf. Fucking amazing player, won everything, Champions League about a million times, and still playing at age 56. I heard a story once, don't know how true it is, but the Milan physios told him to sit out of a few training sessions because he was in too good a shape and didn't have enough body fat. Probably bull like, but you know.

I always thought Zambrotta was an awesome full back and for a good 4/5 seasons (up until about the time he moved to Barca) was the best full back around. I mean he used to play the entire left of the pitch all by himself at times for Juventus. He could get up and back the left flank for 90 minutes and never get caught out of position, even against the best.

I also think Ashley Cole has developed into absolutely everything you could want from a full back. He is an excellent player even though he is a cunt.

Zambrotta was amazing, good shout. Woodgate and Ashton definitely had talent. God knows what they could have achieved if they stayed injury free. Ledley King too.

Shay Given clearly is underrated, Iker Casillas maybe too.

Casillas underrated? No chance. He is regarded as the best in the business. He keeps Pepe Reina off the national team and has made world class saves for Madrid for nearly a decade.

I'm not so sure about that, Dave.
Until Cech had his injury he was widely regarded as the best keeper in the world. Buffon was also regarded as better than Casillas. Before that there was Van der Sar in his prime, Schmeichel too.
Maybe since Spain has won the Euro and the World Cup he's regarded as the best, but before?

It's not 'not rated', it's underrated. I understand it as other players who are worse or equal are regarded as better. This can also apply to very good players.
