You might be thinking, is there an issue?
In my opinion yes.
I like Matip, but the latest news about his current injury status wasn't good. They apparently don't have an idea of when he'll be back and we're about to head into the most hectic stage of the season.

Can we go on this season with only 3 fit CB's? Of course we can, but it's a big risk. We were in the same situation last season with Gomez, Matip and VD being injured at the same time. I think we dropped a few points because of it.

We do have an ace up our sleeve with Fabinho being able to deputise if needed, but it comes at a cost because he probably is our most important midfielder at the moment.

I've seen that we're being linked to Brighton defender Ben White, who currently is on loan at Leeds. I know nothing about him but it wouldn't surprise me if we try to get it done in January.

This might be pointless and Matip might be back next week, cause what the fuck do I know, but being one injury away from having Hoever on the bench is not a great situation to be in at this stage of the season.

Leicester are looking at Kristoffer Ajer appz, only 21 years old. If he is good, he could be a sound investment

Matip will have a second scan this week according to Klopp, to see how the development have been to the knee. The result of that scan will determine wheter or not we can wait for him, or if we might need to do something. I doubt Klopp will sign someone just to sign someone, we all know he wont do that.

I don't want him. He is ok, but there is definately much better out there.

And I am not sure if we should do a Leicester and look at sound investments. We don't buy a CD to sell him on in a few years. We buy one to cement the League Trophy.

I remember us dropping points when Trent and Gomez were out, and we had to play Leicester with Henderson at RB, and Palace/West Ham with Milner playing there.

For me, the more worrying issue is the cover for Robbo/Trent, who by all accounts, are carrying a few knocks/niggles.

Not sure, Gomez isn't playing well, but he was utterly brilliant last season before he got injured, and Lovren has been doing fine recently. It is, as you say, only one injury away from being a concern, but I think we should have enough options.

That said, I'm certain we'll be looking at CB reinforcements in summer

The players we've got just need to step up, IMO. Both Gomez and VVD are capable of playing better. Lovren is doing reasonably well and I've always been confident in Hoever. I'd be surprised to see us more for another CB until Lovren agitates for a move away.

Its a shame about Matip, seems to have a big injury at least once a season. How is 2016 hipsters choice Jonathan Tar doing these days, anyone watch German football, and if so do you know how has he progressed?

Signing a defender that cant get into Brighton's team isn't reassuring. Never seen him play

I've seen a couple of Leeds games this season, he's definitely Premiership quality. Big step up from the Championship to the Champions League though, we might be to big a jump for him.

Firstly well donr Dejan for the goal and playing really welll in the last few games, however this is going to be an unpopular opinion but Dejan (along with VAR) was partially at fault for the Napoli goal. I never played the game professionally but feel I have enough insight to know that as a defender the first thing you should try to get right is body position, this is why you don't see the REAL best defender in the world making sliding challenges often. If you watch when Lovren gets back to Mertens his body positioning was a little off, I think he should have come tighter and blocked off a shooting angle, yes Mertens takes a quick snapshot but still VVD would have closed off the angle quicker IMHO. That goal they scored is the difference between elite defender VVD and Lovren, VVD just thinks quicker.

Dejan is has been playing very well lately admittedly next to VVD but his lack of recovery pace and body positioning sometimes worries me. I don't think Klopp is the type of person to panic and go and spend 50m on the next VVD type defender but at the same time, I can't agree with those who say they would prefer him to a fully fit Matip, if and when he returns.

Some fair points in here.

I'd prefer Matip, regardless of how Lovren has played - and it has been decent to say the least - but if I'm being really, REALLY honest I wish the Gomez/ Virgil partnership of the start of last season was back.

In the last 12 months we have had
'Gomez/Matip/Lovren is now first choice to partner Virgil'

Who next, Van den Berg or Hoever?

We'll be fine

Gomez needs to step up, but lovren has been excellent so far.

Worst case scenario, big bad gini can fill in again
