It was a dead certain penalty to me.

Here's what the laws say
“Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration:

  • The movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
  • The distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
  • The position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement
  • Touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc) counts as an infringement
Hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc) counts as an infringement.”

Look at the replays, he guy jumped and the ball hit an outstretched arm as he was turning. Nowhere near deliberate. Even Klopp says it was a lucky call.

I understand both sides of the penalty call, but from the week-by-week interpretations that was a penalty. He jumped to block the ball, and his arms made him a lot bigger an obstruction. If the ball hits the arm, I think a penalty is to be expected. If he was facing the ball would that have made a difference? In my view it shouldn't. The only factor in his favour was proximity to the ball - but I think a penalty was a fair decision.
As for the overall performance, it was on the back of Europa league, against a good passing team which came to defend. We were also missing our creative catalyst and a fully fit striker (Klopp had expressed concerns about playing Benteke twice in 3 days, as he is not yet fully match fit).
So - not a great performance, but we deserved the win, we got it - and hopefully a few more pieces are in place the next time we face a similarly dogged opponent.

Ok yes, this I can agree with. This would make a penalty. Well argued. Cheers.

Screw the rules - the guy jumped and turned away from the ball, he then decided to lift his arms in the air and out wide too. It was a deliberate attempt to block the ball without trying to make it look deliberate. Don't be fooled by the defenders actions for one second - he knew what he was doing, he knew.

Lots of defenders go in to block crosses and shots by holding their hands together behind their backs to make sure incidents like that don't happen.
I think a penalty was a fair decision.

fucking hell - can't believe we are even discussing this - it is almost as if we are filled with guilt for getting that penalty.

In amateur matches that I have watched, referees have awarded penalties for handball on the grounds that the player gained an advantage from the handball. In the Swansea match, the defender put a cross out of play with his arm. He gained an advantage by so doing, as the cross might have resulted in a goal.
