Post Match PSG and we are out. Post match thread.

PSG are a good side who will improve, but for me what let's their fast moving players down is poor decision making.

If they don't improve that they won't be great against good sides.

We're gonna look like absolute Arsenal if we don't go on to win this league now.

I know this is going to be my least popular "brainwave" ever, but I actually think they should use xg instead of penalties. Not cos it's perfect, because it obviously isn't, but because pens are such a ridiculously shit and irrational way to settle a game of football.
The TV companies are going to flay you alive.

Not that I fully understand xG but wouldn't that just lead to taking easy pot shots at the keeper from distance in the last minutes?

tbf that'd be more exciting at least. a fuckign scramble from 85th minute to get shots away?

Wish we had that mentality today

I thought the game slipped away when first Trent and then Macca+Szobo went off. Trent was having his best game this season perhaps and our constant switching flanks had them on the ropes.. Elliott and Jones were abysmal.
We should still have won - Mo. had two excellent chances and there were others (Diaz, Jota, VdD etc.). Quansah desperately unlucky.

They basically bested us by nullifying Gravenberch and Salah with early challenges and no space or time to settle - seems like a blueprint to beat us if your players have the energy.

Nullifying Gravy was always going to be a problem for us once teams copped on that every good thing that we did came through him in the early parts of the seaon right up until recently. Slot seemed to recognise this quite quickly however and now we pass it around much more between CB and FB and look for diagonal balls or balls over the top on the break ala Klopp footy.

It wasn't already done, it's definitely done now. Trent is going to Madrid.

I'm glad Slot gets to see the levels of this team and some of our players.

Let's be honest, some of our players aren't top champions league quality players (Nunez, Diaz, Quansah, Jones), and some are just past their very best (Chiesa, Robbo, Jota, dare I say Mo?).

Let's get some fresh legs (Kerkez, Etitike/Isak, Kudus) in the summer and go again.

I think Chiesa is done for the season. He's not an option for Slot. Right now he's just another body on the bench. Like when we have two keepers on the bench.

Well played to PSG over the 2 legs - a team I've expressed huge disdain for in the past but they played both games in good spirit and showed their class, no denying they deserved to go through. We don't have a fullback like Hakimi (or Mendes), we don't have a winger like Dembele and we don't have a midfielder like Vitinha/Doue. Get to work in the summer Hughesy boy, you massive fucking cunt, because there's a lot of work to do be done with this squad.

I still don't understand why though. Surely he could be of use for even fifteen minutes.

What is the issue with him?
What I saw against Plymouth sealed it for me. He's nowhere near fit enough to play.
I honestly don't think he'll ever be the same player we saw win the Euros

I think this game, has really shown where we need to improve. I'm actually really gutted. I expected more.

Oh well, can't be too upset, we've already exceeded expectations this season. The next is the time to show this wasnt a fluke.

Tonight was the first time I realised I wouldn’t be even slightly disappointed if both Jota and Núñez were shown the door this summer. I’ve been done with Núñez for a while, but I’m starting to feel the same way about Jota. His injuries speak for themselves, but if he can’t deliver in the limited games he actually plays, then what’s the point? The attack has never truly clicked, and this summer is a chance for Slot to shape it in his own vision.

As for the general performance it was decent and improved, but we just lacked the quality in both chance creation and finishing. Lots of hard work went into establishing a platform to win the game and the players didn't make it count. There was a period around 65 minutes when we were well on top with our first eleven on the pitch and I felt we had to take advantage now, otherwise it's a dice roll. We didn't, and the dice landed against us.

The cup final is a nice way to boost moral. We need to move on fast and attack the rest of the year.
He’s the best finisher at the club so I’m told!

Gutted we are out but as long as we win the league and another English club doesn’t win the CL then I’ll be happy

Crazier idea.

I’d love if the teams are level after 90 mins you take a player from each side off every 3 mins until a winner is scored.

Would bring a whole level of tactics and entertainment with the winner actually having to go and score.

Imagine 6v6 after 15 mins🤣

Also if nothing else this exits strengthens the claim that the EPL is too competitive and has too many games for the top teams to win the CL consistently.

Ultimately it was a knackered Liverpool playing a very fresh PSG over two legs.

Big money and you need to deliver in the big games. He was missing in both of them in this round.

He’s already on 350k ish. He won’t be after a pay cut. Even on the same money the point stands. You want the big money you stand up in the big moments.
I saw this quite a lot in the match thead and I don't buy it.

He was the best player on the pitch against City by a mile and has been decisive in about 90% of our games this season.

He's hit a bit of a personal slump in form, but come on. One tie, up against one of the best right backs in the business and we've got posters now saying this is why he doesn't deserve more big money or the big personal accolades this season. It's utter rubbish.

He's been phenomenal this season. It's just unfortunate that Gapko has been injured, Jota is finished and Nunez isn't good enough, because this is a spell where he could really do with someone taking the heat off him.

I can just see it - the opposition is down to 10 men, and we go into "dreamy play", one by one players come off until we are left with Darwin vs noone ... and he blazes over the bar
