So unlucky for Gerrard we didn't have last year's team in 2000... We would have set the world on fire and he would have gotten the title more than once I'm sure.

Thank you for the memories and YNWA!

It's interesting that all of his teammates are saying what a great person he is off the pitch too whilst some fans are calling him Stevie me and a traitor.
Hardly surprising though.

An incredible player, sui generis. Personally I felt there was always a certain coldness about him, as a character, that stopped me ever really loving him as much as I did a few others, but it's impossible not to respect him immensely and feel honoured to have been around to witness his whole career. A genuine one-off, and an extraordinary force of nature.

i'll be made up to see gerrard out the team but we have no leaders to replace him and i don't think we have the means to address it. we're going to become a feeder club developing kids for the rich cunts.

Thanks for all of the glorious memories Stevie!

I'm not sad about this at all though TBH. As long as I remain a Liverpool fan i'll always miss the player he was, but It's in everyones best interests that he leaves as far as i'm concerned. Thgis Liverpool team needs to find it's own identity now.

I echo this really.

I can't put in to words how much I appreicate and respect Steven Gerrard as a footballer. He has give me some of my happiest moments not just in football, but in life, and I'll always be grateful. A scally looking lad from Huyton turned into one the finest footballers in front of our eyes and we were fortunate in that he loved the club just as much as we loved him. It's Roy of the Rovers shit and it's extremely rare. He delivered time and time again, on the highest stage. When even the most optimistic fan has given up, Steven Gerrard found a way. For a man who so often delivered the fairytale ending, it seems sad that his career hasn't ended in a similar fashion. He should have been walking around Anfield with the Premier League in his arms. Lord knows he deserved it. One slip cost him his greatest prize and that is cruel.

It's not sad that he's leaving now though. It would be sadder for him to continue and to witness his decline further. Part of me would like him to be released now just so we can begin the process of moving on and be ready for next year. As for Gerrard, I hope he finds his new challenge exciting, his wages huge and the sunshine constant. Good luck to him.

YNWA

Rossiter has the right character to be a leader, and the potential to be a top player. I hope, as Houllier did for Gerrard, Rodgers lets him push on and make his mark.

i refuse to believe rossiter is any good. there's a new scouser (is he a scouser?) every year who gets talked up like this. never seen him play though.

Just goes to show you can think you're prepared for something, but when it hits, you realise you don't know what to do.

A bit like sex, really.

I watched his performance, with interest, in the League Cup - and he looked ok (for a youngster starting his first senior game).

.... but then nothing.... I thought he'd get a few late sub appearances in the league.

What's the deal - is he ready to be a part of the first team squad & slot into the midfield?

I've heard lots of good things. In that game I thought Jordan Williams (was that his name? the other young CM) was more impressive but both gave very good performances.

Not trolling...but Raheem and Suso were more impressive than Rossiter at his age.

Different positions though Modo.

Even then - sterling & Suso's development has gone different ways.

You've always championed McLaughlin as well - that hasn't happen end either.

That's not a dig at you - by the way.

Sure they had different positions but they were dominant when they played and it was easy to see. I'm not sure Rossiter is as rated nationwide as Suso and Raheem were.
Injuries have hampered McLaughlin's development. He's just been unlucky.

I'm going to have to get Woland's son to teach me how to sneak into Anfield. Really want to get into the ground for his last game. Can I start a queue for tickets? I will offer face value and a kidney.

Gerrard is my favourite player ever. We knew this was coming but it's still tough to actually read it.

He's big and he's fucking hard...

People develop at different rates. From what I have seen of Rossiter, and that's quite a bit, he's an excellent prospect. If we handle him well, he could be a very good player.

Yeah I would love to be there for his last game.

This morning when I read the news I was a little numb. Over the course of the day that feeling of being immensely gutted has replaced it. Fuck me what a player! I'll follow with particular interest what he does next but I just know he'll be back. The day he does will be a fucking boss one!

Sterling's performances in the reserves are fated to be redescribed beyond comprehension in future years. The truth is he was really quiet in many games, but had about four really eye-catching performances.

I just realised he won't be coming back. By going to the states and in referring to different experiences and regrets, I get the feeling he'll sort out loans to Spanish and Italian clubs during his off-seasons. That would be a nice way to end his career actually. It may prove how good he actually is when he takes the piss in those leagues.

And yet other players who really tear it up in the reserves (Neil Mellor being the obvious answer but there's countless others) fail at the top level.

Has anybody shed a tear yet I bet a few young en's have, maybe older ones on the last day of the season.

I bet the crystal palace tickets will be worth a few quid.
