That Carra article in the mail is a bit arsey & very biased imo.

Suggesting that Stevie could have a job shadowing Rodgers for the next year completely ignores what everyone knows & the club never admits, that Steven is a moody cunt at times so it'd cause issues.

I agree with the overall point that the club have allowed it to happen, but I think he ignores the fact that it's hard to imagine a different outcome if he won't take being benched yet wants to continue playing.

@JamesPearceEcho: Rodgers: "He knew my feeling on wanting him to be here. He wasn't ready to move into coaching, he still sees himself very much as a player."

Answers the Carra question.

At the risk of being lambasted, I'm tired of all this already.

I've loved Gerrard as a player, best I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt in terms of talent and greatness (putting in giant performances when we've really needed them). But we're half way through a season in which we're struggling with a manager still seemingly finding his feet amidst the chaos - that's where my attention and energy lies.

At the end of the season (in a few months time) I'll be crying with the rest of you at the prospect of his last game for us (though I'm finding comfort in his move to the MLS - it's not like he's off to play for a decent side somewhere). But right now it can wait. The window is open, we're in need of a keeper and maybe a striker/dm, and the next game is vitally important after yet another disappointment against Leicester.

Like I said, all this circus around Gerrard's decision can wait. He's not leaving yet.

Let's just hope that this announcement will have a placebo effect on the troops rallying to give Stevie a glorious send-off...and go on a winning streak. Hopefully this will give them a renewed sense of purpose too.

See, this is what I'm talking about....

26-minute press conference at Melwood. The word 'Wimbledon' not mentioned once. #LFC

Perhaps this is all a lovely smokescreen for negligible transfer activity

So then he's confirmed he's off to MLS. A nice little winding down of a career in some LA swank pad does sound rather appealing I have to say. He's going to be great and I'll deffo be tuning in.

I heard the news rumoured a few hours after Leicester and hoped like hell it was the Chavs all over again.

Will be difficult to imagine Liverpool without him and, I'm ashamed to say, a little bit of me died when I realized it was true.

His sheer power kind of took away from the rest of his game which was technically brilliant. I can't think of a player in history with such dexterity: long range passing, short passing, stamina, power, shooting, crossing, volley's, heading. There was almost nothing he couldn't do at an elite level - other than corners. He even scored a few rippers with his left.

They were never best friends but I think Rafa summed him up superbly when some journo tried to involve him in the Lampard vs Gerrard debate. It was a very skillful answer from Benitez which wasn't controversial but, at the same time, demonstrated that there was really no debate. He said Lampard was a world class CM and Gerrard is also a world class CM. But I can play Gerrard wide right and he is a world class RM or RW, I can play him as a world class AM and if I play him at RB he will be world class there as well. End. Of. Debate.

After all this, does anyone wonder if maybe it's a year early? He's had the most devastating season end seven months ago, had to captain a rubbish England at the World Cup and then play in a team that had just lost the best striker in football. I'll be interested to see how he looks in a more settled team after enjoying a true summer off without international problems for a year. I could see him having a little more snap in his legs and some more bite in his performances. We won't know so best, I guess, to remember the extraordinary feats he's provided us over the last 15 years.

It's done! Steven #Gerrard in june will leave from #Liverpool and will go to #LAGALAXY. He will sign a contract until 2019. #LFC

2019!!!?

Cant really blame him for taking a four year deal, probably on huge wages, at his age. Maybe he'll come back on loan like they all seem to do.

Is Lucas our most senior player if he stays next season then? Or Johnson?

Lucas, I get the feeling both will be gone though, but I wouldn't be adverse to Lucas staying. At least he goes out on the pitch with the right mentality and he's looked great since he's been back.

I wouldn't have many complaints about lucas staying either tbh.

Oddly, Can's impressive performance at CB makes me confident that he can do the DM role long term.

Not to mention that without Gerrard in the dressing room I'd like an older head who'd played in the biggest matches on the biggest stages.

Yeah...he really needs the money. He could have went to LA when he was done at LFC, and lived happily ever after.

Sorry but this is fucked up.

Yeh he is pretty much done at LFC though, as a full time player. Why should he retire at the club as well? Given the service hes given the club since a kid, winning this club silverware almost single handedly at times, staying at the club when he could have had his pick of world clubs I think he's more than earned the right as a player to finish his career how he sees fit and I that means sampling some playing time in a different country then so be it

I think ive made my views clear on our wonderful captain.
I maintain he is the most complete player I have ever seen. Hes not the best ive ever seen, thats either Diego or Zidane. But what he is is the most complete. No one could play as many positions as him as well as him. No one who scores as many as he has makes as many last ditch tackles as him. No one who created as much has also destroyed as much. Hes a template for the perfect footballer. Pass. Tackle. Dribble. Shoot. Create. Score. Hes flawless and peerless in the game. No player has ever done as much for his team in total as Steven Gerrard has done for Liverpool and England in the past 17 years.

And ive said this a million times but a team of Steven Gerrards beats a team made up of any other footballer in history. Hes just that good.

Hes Liverpools greatest ever player and I am honoured to have watched his entire career.

I dont feel sad that hes leaving, I feel glad that he stayed.
We have been spoiled and a few years ago when injury looked to have robbed us of him I vowed that if he made it back id relish every time I got to see him take the field. And his light may have dimmed over the past 18 months but how bright it shone from 1999 to 2012

Our brightest Son.

I don't know what all the fuss is about myself. A great player for us is coming to end of his career, he's moving on and ended the speculation that so many have been concerned about and now the club has a chance to prepare for his departure. End of an era most definitely but, as with everything, life and LFC will go on.

Yup^^^^ This and the post above it sum it up for me.

@ESPNFC: More details on Steven Gerrard's move to the LA Galaxy: 18-month deal worth $6m per year, MLS to pick up $750k.

Not 4 years, 18 months.
