Witness failed to turn up in court.

I wonder if this had an effect on his poor form later in the season.

It must have. He's, what, all of 18? (And barely 18 at that.) Coupled with getting to grips with the first-team's pace, the glare of the English media spotlight, he should be one exhausted 18 year old.

Court case may have played a role in his dipping form. Ibe has some way to go but so has Sterling. Competition is healthy.

He'll be a great asset next season. Does anyone thing we shouldn't have him as a regular squaddy, starting here and there?

Oh and it was interesting how he just *vanished*, but a good move regardless.

Another footballer seen as a target by money-grabbing twats, or something more sinister. We will never know. Hopefully it was a load of shite and the kid can get back to trying to remember what to takes to actually beat a man (not assault a woman) and just concentrate on playing.

Sterling irritated the judge by not turning up to the previous hearings. Now the supposed 'victim' hasn't turned up. What a waste of time.

It is understood Mr Rodgers accompanied Sterling in a personal capacity to offer support.

God that Rodgers is a cunt eh......

The Guardian provided a vivid account of how Sterling, Rodgers et al were sitting outside waiting in a silver Mercedes. Not sure how, but they made it sound well dodgy.

Fo-getaboudet.

Yes, he didn't exactly force his way into the first team. Owen and Gerrard were no brainers - they had to be promoted. Sterling had his agent doing his best to panic the club into playing him before he'd done much. He'd have the odd good shot and some good runs in matches, but he'd also have games when he was very quiet and kept under control by opposition defenders. It was sensible to encourage him, get him involved in the first team squad and give him every reason to keep pushing himself on, but he needed to be kept fresh and given the right moments to explode into matches, but he just seemed to be left to run himself out like a battery being run flat. He'll probably come back in great shape next season and there will be no long term damage done, but we really need to be far more careful with such players. I mean, he was playing with a muscle tear for about two months! I know it was only deemed a minor tear, but christ, at that age, let the kid have proper rests. We've just seen Owen retire completely clapped out before his time. Let's never let that happen again.

Good post, but didn't Gerrard break into the first team when he was 19?

Yes, but that's what i mean - Gerrard demanded to be in because of his performances. Everyone could see it. He was ridiculously precocious. And, again, we fecked him over for a couple of years with his growth spurts. Sterling never played to such a level when it was obvious he had to be elevated. Painful though it is to admit, we keep making the mancs look much more sensible by either blocking young kids or exhausting them. There has to be a middle way.
