Mirror reporting he could be out for 3 months. Havent seen it reported anywhere else, but if true we'll surely buy a CB in January.
With the Mirror reporting that we could try to sign Matip for 4 mill in January instead of on a free next summer.

It looked to me that a Watford player got a sly kick on his hammy as he fell down during the challenge.

I know how Skrtel is well-loved in these parts; but I am looking forward to see how we cope without him.

Can at CB until we buy someone decent in Jan. I'd rather that than Kolo.

Kolo, even in his twilight years, is a far more accomplished and reliable option than Can at centre back. You can't afford to have a player in there who momentarily switches off throughout matches.

As for Skrtel, he had a poor game at the weekend, everyone's allowed one occasionally, he's been one of our most consistent players for the last few years and has been our best centre back since Carragher left. Our quality may have dropped in recent years overall, but he's managed to be an ever present in two title challenging sides and has seen off alot of players now who've come and gone. He's getting on a bit and has lost a yard, but yeah. Let's see how much we'll miss him.

Yeah. I'm relishing the prospect of Can playing at CB (which he really isn't very good at), meaning Lucas has to play in midfield, or having Rolo Toure at centre back.

Cannot. Wait.

You know that's not what I mean Jon Fox! Even though Skrtel has been heroic and all, I don't think he's as good as people make him out to be, and certainly dont think he is undroppable.

Yeah, i remember when people were saying how it was a sign of squad depth when we beat Southampton 6-1 without the list of first choice players , i was wondering whether we were picking the right players (and whether it was really down to the fact that Caulker was playing his first game in ages and was rubbish)

I can't tell if Ross is being sarcastic or not nowadays.

I'd agree, if we had an even remotely adequate replacement (Skrtel is our best defended by default & determination, not thanks to any great talent) but we don't, so it could become a horror show.

Our options are Kolo Toure, Emre Can or fucking Lucas.

What exactly are you looking forward to?

Although we will probably win and everyone will say it's because Skrtel wasn't playing and whoever plays will have 'earned a run in the side'

until the next game where he plays like a total cabbage and gets dropped again.

That makes no sense when the potential replacements are all far worse defenders, and will therefore make the team worse.

It's a bit like when we sacked Benitez and people said they were looking forward to seeing what Hodgson would do, despite the fact that it was obviously going get much, much worse

Not really Rurik, given both of them are piss-weak on the right-side of defense.

Lovren is right-footed; it's true that he has looked worse on the right side, but that was in the period under Rodgers when Lovren generally looked awful on either side, really. I don't expect it to be a big problem under Klopp; it's just very unusual for a defender to perform worse on their natural side.

40 million quid we've paid for Lovren and Sakho and we still are worrying about playing the two together.
It's embarrassing the cash we've spunked the last 8 years.

Fair enough, but he looked worse on the right, and we identified him as the solution to our hole on the left side of the centre back pairings, even though we had Sakho too.

In the long run I still don't rate him too highly, and I don't see him lasting the course with Klopp. That said, I've got my reservations about Sakho too. Skrtel is just the pick of a poor crop, but at least he's had a few seasons where he's been excellent for the most part.

Was it Ryan way-back that did the dissection of his poor positional play as the reason he makes so many "heroic" saving tackles? Anyhow, I pretty much go along with that.

Hes by no means our biggest issue, but in cold isolation, he isnt good enough.

If you make your career as a roughy toughy brusque centre back, and then get fucking OWNED by Deeney, something has gone very, very wrong. Perhaps he was already carrying this injury and that hampered him, but the amount of time spent on the ground after challenges would have had Thommo, T Smith et al barking mad

So much for the sly pundits suggesting that Skrtel went off because he couldn't cope with being bullied by Deeney etc.

Twats.

They have short memories - this is the same Skrtel that gets stamped/kicked by Costa in the Chelsea game and does not make a fuss out of it ?

Hah, when other strikers enjoy playing against your CBs....

An article published on The Anfield Wrap siterecently spoke of how one former rival had, off the record, told the author how he enjoyed playing against Skrtel.

“He doesn’t speak much,” was one observation, while his marking at set-pieces was also questioned. The opponent in question was another who regularly enjoyed productive days against the Reds.
