Torres urges Reds to keep Benitez
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres says sacking manager Rafael Benitez will not solve the club's current ills.

Out of the Champions League and off the pace in the race to qualify for next season's tournament, the Reds have won just three times in 12 games.

"I think sacking the manager is not a solution," said Torres, who thinks the players are to blame more than Benitez.

"We have to play much better. The players are the people that have to find a solution to the situation."

He added: "It's a difficult situation but every top team in the world goes sometimes through a bad situation like Liverpool now. Like every top team in the world, Liverpool will get over the situation."

Torres also suggested that Benitez needed to strengthen his squad, but did not have the funds at his disposal to recruit high-calibre players.

"Obviously we need players," said Torres, who has scored 11 goals in 13 league games this seaon. "If we can bring quality players it should be really positive for us.

"But I think the situation is really difficult because I think we don't have money to bring in the best players.

"It's a difficult situation but every top team in the world goes sometimes through a bad situation like Liverpool now.

"Like every top team in the world, Liverpool will get over the situation.

"I have confidence in myself and my team. I know we are good enough. We were playing really well last season with the same team."

It may be that he's responding to a direct question but it still puts the thought out publicly.
The fact that he's being asked the question means the thought is already out there publicly, as it very obviously is. This insight of yours is based on very flawed thinking.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was a faction of players at Melwood who wouldn't mind seeing the door hitting Rafa on his arse.

Call me a cynic.. and I've got a lot of love for Fernando.. but this could just be him setting himself up for a move should Benitez be sacked (and we fail to get Europe).

Sure, he says he loves the club - maybe he does. But he also loved Atletico and it didn't stop him from moving once they began failing to compete for top honours.

We fail to get 4th => Benitez sacked => Torres "unsettled" => World Cup shop window around the corner => No shortage of offers.
They never really competed for top honours during his time there - he gave them as long as he possibly could and then he finally snapped and left.

As for offers, I don't really think Torres needs to do anything if that's on his mind - they'll be there regardless of what happens.

Agree as far as that goes, but I don't reckon it IS on his mind. Torres has been asked that question directly, and answered it clearly in the negative, numerous times. He's also been asked about, and dismissed the possibility of, wanting to leave if Rafa went. Of course he wants success, but I'm convinced he specifically wants to achieve it with us.

Torres won't move if Benitez gets sacked or we fail to get 4th.
He has stated so in previous interviews.

If we continue to be shite in the future seasons, then he might think about leaving.

He's also been asked about, and dismissed the possibility of, wanting to leave if Rafa went.

That was a rumour about a few players that used to get thrown around a lot when anyone talked about Benitez going.
If it ever was true (and I don't believe it ever was) then I doubt it is true of any of them now.

Yeah, you're right.

I wouldn't really begrudge him looking for a move should we fail to make Europe anyway. Like Gerrard, he's played enough years around inferior players.

Benitez will go. Torres will stay.

Anything else would be a fucking nightmare.
And anything else wouldn't make sense. I can't even imagine being without Torres..

Well we have been for half the season, and look where we are now.
That's what happens when you don't have plan B

You're reading far too much into it Wiz.

This is football and in football, if you go on a run of 4 wins in 17 games or however many it is now, you don't need anyone to plant ideas in your head about the manager being sacked - they're already there.

There is an immense amount of pressure on Rafa and there has been for quite a while - it registers from the commentary during games, football shows, radio phone-ins, papers and generally from the fact that the table reads like an obituary.

There may or may not be some Machiavellian plot to oust Rafa, who knows, but Torres is not oblivious to what's going on and he's simply addressing that (after probably being asked the question).;
Agreed.

I hope our Senior players are turning on him if, by Senior players they mean Carra & Gerrard. They know more about English footy than Benitez will ever know.
Turn on him, turn!!!!

How is he a senior player? And how often does he play? What has he done to even comment on Rafa? Delusional if true.
