Ideas above his station?

He'll be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever play for the club, and a legend.

Benitez?

A footnote
c'mon bren, the winner of the european cup in argubly the most dramatic cup final ever will remembered as more than a footnote.

you'd hope.

Trouble is, the way this season's going, Rafa may end up being remembered for little else besides Istanbul if he goes in the summer. That would be a pity, and unfair to an extent, but he HAS to put things right in the league if he's to avoid such a fate.

I'm not so sure Niall. Does Giggs have the right to speak his mind in the United dressing ie. confronting the manager? He has done a lot for the club, won all there is to win, and is considered a legend. Would he pipe up? No fucking chance. The manager runs the club, not the players. We'll go through managers like Chelsea do if we let the players run the ship like the chavs do.
Giggs has never had to endure a season like this in his career so he has never really been in the position where he has felt the need to have a go. Gerrard has had too many seasons in which we have not been even close to challenging for the title.

This all could be made up bollocks. Hell, Rage could be the 'unnamed source'. Besides, it only says that Gerrard wasn't happy with Benitez having a go. Nothing about Gerrard "rounding up players" as has been since attached, in true chinese-whisper fashion.

Maybe not to this extent, but four seasons ago United were knocked out of Europe at the first group stage. In fact they were so poor that season they didn't even make the Uefa cup, they also had to watch as Chelsea retained their title, the first time sine the premier league started that a rival had done that. Considering the club had been winning it most years, this was a low point. Granted it is not as low as we are right now, but a bad season none the less. I don't recall any stories of players confronting management. Sure there would have been strong words, but they stuck together and from that season on they have been champions.

I don't think there is any comparison between ourselves and Utd to be made to be honest. They had a team full of players who'd won loads of titles between them and a manager that was responsible for all those titles.

Gerrard, who is turning 30 this year, has no league medals and has spent a large part of his career playing in pretty average sides that he's had to drag up the table by force. As depressed as we are about the situation, I imagine he's feeling worse.

I see where Stu is going...

SG does have the right (and the duty) to discuss / argue with the manager if he feels the need, though privately would be my preference. I'd not have a problem with him discussing things with a few senior players and then the executives at the club either, if he feels the situation is that dire.

Having a slagging match in public (in front of the entire team) doesn't help anybody right now, if that has indeed happened. It can only hurt morale.

It's a very fine line.

Stu. Giggs has won 11 league titles, 2 european cups, 4 fa cups and many other trophies. I dont see what the fuck he could ever have a go at his boss for.

Gerrard with all his talent hasnt even got 1 league title to his name and wont be getting one this year either. I'd be rather pissed off if I was in his shoes.
Does that not highlight another problem with our current squad Ken?
Like you say they had a squad, of which the majority had one or more premier league winners medals at home yet their manager had the ability to drive those players for more. Those players were hungry for more and fought hard to get back on top. Where was the fight on Saturday? Where was the fight when Arsenal equalized?

I realise that I'm goig slightly off topic with that but it is a valid point.

You're right with regard to Gerrard Ken. He must be devastated with how things are right now. He has had to look across the anfield dressing room at players like Josemi, Nunez, Voronin. That must be a sickening feeling for him.

So work with the manager, the players and the LFC staff to right it. Last time I looked it was a team game. Getting pissed off, bitching and moaning is unprofessional and a cowards approach to a problem.

Yeah, I think many made the same point after the Pompey game and I've thought for a while we've really been lacking any sort of fighting spirit. It's just all gone to shit.

Back to the original point, I think Gerrard has a right to voice his concerns but only behind closed doors and in the correct manner.

If this hits the national papers, I would expect a Gerrard denial straight away. I'm sure these kind of disagreements happen all the time, but they're very rarely made public.

Whether this particular story is true or not, however, there is clearly something wrong with our team spirit at the moment, and Gerrard looks lethargic and unhappy.

Mascherano and Aurelio are bizarre lieutenants for a rebellion though - one who's been agitating for a move since last spring, and the other who is a bit of a Benitez favourite. Carra would be a more obvious candidate.

The Aurelio thing is what lends this story the most credibility. If someone had made this up, they wouldn't have had him as a ring-leader.

I won't accept it, I just don't see the way forward is being pissed off and ranting and raving.

Fine point. If it was carra and torres it'd look too perfect. Aurelio gives it that element of surprise that only comes from real life.

I don't know, Aurelio has spoken glowingly of Rafa ever since he arrived. Maybe he might be feeling a bit aggreived over his contract situation, however I can't really believe he's openly rebelling against Rafa.

I was under the impression Rafa didn't supervise training but left it to the coaching staff.

I agree in essence, but when was the last time fab said anything like that about Rafa? He saved him from valencia exile, but how long can he be thankful for that? We talk of aquilani being disgusted Lucas is ahead of him, but surely fab must be the same seeing insua start?

I thought that the reason Aurelio wasn't getting a game at Valencia was that he was a "trouble-maker".

fucking hell, yet another load of old tosh! ( no disrespct to Mr Toshack)

Why do people 'know someone' and post this utter shite, do they like shit stirring or just upsetting the people on the forum?

I actually DO know someone, I never ever wanted to say I did, but I KNOW SOMEONE involved at the highest level in the club, and ALL THIS IS PURE WIND UP SHITE!

I have know this person for over 40 years and he IS really really closely involved with the club, on a day to day basis with the players and Rafa.

So there, now I'm fucking off and not visiting the forum again.

Too many Drama Queens!
