Sadio Mane

Today's papers are saying he's now valued at £25m, great success!

No doubt this is some sort of tactic deployed by Southampton to confuse Ayre into making a & 40m offer

I doubt there's any negotiating going on at the moment. I'm sure Klopp will want to see what happens with Goetze first.

Mkhitaryan is available for about the same amount as Mane.

Apparently the Mancs are all over this.

Dortmund said a while back that they're not letting him go regardless of having 1 year left on his contract.
Utd can offer some decent fees though

Would be a fantastic signing. He wasnt very complimentary towards Klopp so I doubt we have a chance.

The Reds are waiting to be granted permission to enter discussions with the 24-year-old forward after submitting a bid of £25 million plus £5m in add-ons

Liverpool have moved closer to completing a deal to sign Sadio Mane following positive negotiations with Southampton, Goal understands.

The Reds have made an offer totalling £30 million for the Senegal international and while the Saints are yet to formally accept the proposal, it is understood they are open to doing business with the Merseyside club for the fifth time since the summer of 2014.

Indications are that Mane is enthused by the prospect of working under Jurgen Klopp but Liverpool are still waiting for permission to enter discussions with the player.

The 24-year-old, who scored 15 goals in all competitions and recorded nine assists last season, would add speed and dynamism to Liverpool's attack.

Wanyama gone and it looks likely that pelle and mane will be gone in the near future - i guess the new manager will have some dollar to spend

Mkhitaryan has already declared his love for United and that he wants to move there. He's also said he prefers Tuchel over Klopp. No-one else will get a look in.

I'm not sure Klopp would be so eager to work with Mkhitaryan either. He gambled on building a new team around him (after losing Gotze) and it didn't work out, which ultimately resulted in Klopp leaving. Mkhitaryan only improved under Tuchel.

Pros

Adds pace to the attack: Liverpool’s front line has plenty of attributes: guile, vision, ingenuity. But it certainly does not have much variation. Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana – Klopp’s first-choice three behind the striker last season – all press well and create chances, but it is a trio that lacks raw pace to get behind defences. The vast majority of their play takes place in front of the defence, rather than behind. Though Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings possess the speed to stretch defences, there is little being offered elsewhere.
Mane has pace, and plenty of it. He is quick, penetrative and skillful; he carries the ball well, both centrally to out wide, and from out wide to central positions. It would offer the Reds attack another dimension on the counter, as well as offering something different to what they already have. There are not enough players at Anfield who can get behind their man with sheer speed.

End product: Only four midfielders scored more league goals than Mane’s 11 for Southampton last season, a total which represented more than any Liverpool player managed. Similarly, his six assists were beaten only by James Milner and Firmino, with Lallana also registering six and Coutinho offering five.
In short, Mane creates and scores goals. He scored 15 in all competitions in 2015-16, following up from the 10 he notched in his debut season at Southampton. His arrival would add extra threat to the attack.
Lallana is often criticised for not having enough end product. Mane would offer a real alternative to that.

Versatility:
When Mane was first linked as another option to the reluctant Gotze, confusion reigned. The two players were in no way similar in position, let alone style.
That isn’t quite true, though. Mane is perceived to be a quick, direct winger; though he may line up there if Liverpool sign him, he’s also comfortable playing as the no.10. In fact, he featured more in a central position than out wide for Southampton, with 18 of his 30 starts coming down the middle.
Flexibility will be important, and Mane’s adeptness at playing in either role is a bonus for Klopp. It should be noted, of course, that the 24-year-old bagged five goals in just nine starts out wide – a much better ratio than his two-in-18 situated behind the striker.

Adaptability: Mane is still just 24, and is clearly a player open to improving further. He came to England as a relative unknown from the Austrian league and has matured into one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.
After two years under the tutelage of Ronald Koeman, Mane’s game has been refined – something Klopp would be keen to tap into, as well. At Southampton, he has been playing a high-tempo, pressing game, a similar style – if not exactly the same – to Klopp’s Liverpool.

Cons

Another Southampton player: It may seem trite to mention, but Mane would become the fifth Saints player to arrive at Anfield in the last three seasons.
Of course, this statistic seems a lot safer now than this time last year. Dejan Lovren and Lallana have turned the corners on their Anfield careers, while Nathaniel Clyne was arguably the team’s most underrated player last year. Rickie Lambert, though it didn’t work out back at his boyhood club, only cost £4m.
And yet, there would be a sense of discontent at Liverpool raiding Southampton once more. The light would be shone upon their efforts to identify players. Mane, after all, could have already been playing for Liverpool. Though it was Rodgers who vetoed that possibility, there is still a sense of unimaginativeness from the Reds, waiting for players to perform well elsewhere before pouncing. And, as well as Southampton did last season, they only finished sixth. Above Liverpool, but below where Liverpool want to be.

The Price: Around £30m will be required to take Mane from St Mary’s to Anfield; at that price, it is safe to assume Mane would be the big purchase of the summer. Granted, the Reds shelled out more than £60m on both Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino – but there will be no near-£50m windfall from the Raheem Sterling sale. Mane, then, would be the main man. The marquee signing, as it is known on social media. In a summer when ostentatious spending will be rife in the Premier League, Mane would be a little underwhelming. At £30m, Liverpool want a player who would move them into the top four, as well as challenge for trophies. The Southampton man would be under pressure straight away with that price tag.

Consistency: Mane was the player who ended Robbie Fowler’s proud Premier League hat trick record back in May 2015. The Toxteth boy’s treble in four minutes 33 seconds against Arsenal in 1994 was demolished by the African, who notched his treble against Aston Villa inside three minutes.
Something to celebrate, but also an insight into the sort of player he can be: he is molten when on a hot streak.
But what happens when that cools off? Of his 11 league goals last season, eight of them came in the final eight games of the campaign. He went 16 games without a goal – a run bookended by his strikes, home and away, against the Reds. In his 37 appearances last season, just eight of them saw him find the net.
He can struggle for consistency, as evidenced by being relegated to the bench for a period under Koeman – though that, also, had roots in his desire to move in January. Capable of moments of magic, he can also go through periods without making an impact.

Unavailable in January: As a member of Senegal’s international squad, Mane could potentially miss a month of action in 2016-17.
Senegal have already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Gabon between January 14 and February 5. The Lions, who have come through a qualifying group containing Burundi, Namibia and Niger, are likely to call one of their best players up for the tournament. Though not a crucial factor when deciding to sign him, a potential month-long absence is less than ideal, though Joel Matip is likely to also be there with Cameroon.

Sadio Mane latest as Liverpool edge closer to deal

Reds still negotiating a fee with Southampton

Liverpool are edging closer to signing Southampton striker Sadio Mane - but no deal will be finalised until next week at the earliest.
The Reds have been negotiating with The Saints for several weeks over a fee.
Southampton initially demanded £40m for the Senegalese striker who hit 11 league goals last season - eight of them in the final eight matches of the season.
But both parties are likely to agree on a fee closer to £30m - giving The Saints a hefty profit on a player they bought from Salzburg for £10m just two years ago.
Liverpool have raided Southampton regularly in recent seasons - snapping up Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne in the last two summers.
But the Saints’ immediate priority is to secure a new manager following Ronald Koeman’s departure to Everton.
A fee of £30m would make Mane the third highest Liverpool signing in history, behind £35m Andy Carroll and £32.5m Christian Benteke.

So is the committee still waiting for other clubs to get involved & drive up the price tag or what?

Seen that too often already and more recently with Salah, Willian, Memphis Depay...

I hope this deal happens, he'll add much needed pace, skill and goalscoring from wide areas, £25mill + £5mill add one isn't a bad price considering the market

Apparently Klopp liked Mane already when he was at Salzburg. I dont think any of our transfers are made by the "committee"..

Chilwell was recommended by Wagner and Buvac has been behind both recommendations for Gruijc and Zielinski.

Think its all Klopp for the final decision. Which is what he said in October aswell.
