Replacing Gerrard

It might just be me, though i suspect it isn't: He doesn't look like he can play every game anymore, nor can he pull out the sort of performances that used to rescue us time after time again.

Is it time to start looking for his natural successor this summer? A dynamic player who can be a real leader on the pitch?

Who is the closest player to him that we could get?

Jonjo laughs in the face of fools who don't realize his greatness.

I think we need to get a midfield general, alla Alonso, and get game winners (like Suarez + a few new signings), and that will be better than what we had with Gerrard.

Martinez can be that general.

We should be asking ourselves how do we improve the team, not how we 'replace Gerrard'.

The starting point is anyone who can score a bloody goal.

I'd take any of the Newcastle front three, although they'd be bonkers to come here.

Yeah, i'd like to move away from the one-man team epithet, and get a team full of winners.

Dunno how likely that is though

My bluenose mate reckons we should buy Fellaini 😕

Yes, exactly what we need another player who can't put the ball in the net. He just wants us to buy him b/c he knows we would wildly overpay and they would be pocketing a cool $20 million or some ridiculous sum.

Fellaini would walk into our team, he's a very good player.

No thanks, we already have more than our fair share of slow footed behemoths who don't score goals.

Yes, he mightn't score enough but hypothetically speaking(cos it'll prob never happen) you put Fellaini in the Liverpool midfield, it frees up Gerrard to get forward and create/score goals. You can look at it like that as well.

I never really thought much of Fellaini up until this season, always thought he was a bit hit and miss, but this season he's put in impressive performances every time i've watched Everton. Very good on the ball, covers a lot of ground and isn't afraid of getting stuck in.

You don't really replace a player like Gerrard. But we do need to plan as if he doesn't exist and use him how we think he can best influence a game.

He's nowhere near what he used to be.

We were never a one-man team though. It's just reductive bollocks.
No-one else could drive the team forward and get last winners out of nowhere like he can/could though, we need more players in the team who can do that.

You replace him by getting creative players to unlock defences as opposed to waiting for Gerrard to pick a pass or get into the box. We need 2 pacey and creative wide players.

Gerrard from now on will be playing in a more of a sitting role, I think.

I have this scary disgusting feeling that we'll win the league when Gerrard or Carra call it quits. Cant explain it to be honest. Just a case of senseless irony.

As has been said before when there has been talk of replacing Gerrard, it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to just talk him out the side, slot someone else in and expect them to do the same job.

Whether we have been a one-man team or not, we have certainly relied a lot on Gerrard over the years and have built the team around him, so unless we get someone exactly the same then it is simply not going to happen.

The whole team has to change quite a bit in order to properly replace Gerrard. This is something that should have been done some time ago really, as he is not going to ever be the player he was again.

A scary disgusting feeling we'll win the league? 😀 it'd obviously be nice for Carra and Gerrard to win the League with us before they retire but it wouldn't take much off the shine of it if they weren't about.

As the saying goes - 'players come and go, but the club remains'

True but mantra goes "best player that hasnt won the league".
I desperetely want Gerrard to win it.
