Spot on. It must be soul destroying for Lucas to show for a ball out of defence, to be igmored repeatedly. only for the defence to hoof the ball up to the outnumbered Torres. The ball then comes straight back at our midfield. Lucas runs himself ragged trying to defend the space/intercept/tackle. Of the times he is successful, we eventually lose it. It gets to our defence, who start the whole hoofing process again.
I'm surprised he hasn't lost it completely before now. Last week Carra (of all people) was shouting where he should be, and Lucas looked like he was about to argue back, but thought better of it. This week he again ran his legs off. He's one of the players I think who does really care about LFC and how we perform. He has great personal dignity, and never complains. Frankly I think he deserves better, and I hope he either gets aprreciated at LFC or finds a club who play to his strengths, one that plays attacking football
Interesting that people are scratching their heads on the West Ham thread about who is going to play instead of Lucas! Is he only going to be appreciated by the less cerebral when he has gone to a team that acknowledges his talent.
I agree that Lucas is a really really good player, and instead of building the team around Gerrard (great player but getting older now) we should do what Brazil have done. Tell Lucas that he is to be the centre of the team, and build around him. He's only 23, won't let anyone down and I'm certain he will step up to the plate as he does regularly for Brazil.
The lad must be gutted. With Gerrards injury he would have had the chance to play alongside meirales for a few games and establish their partnership and not have to cover so much defensively.

Lucas has recently shown he could offer a bit more in a generally less holding midfielder role than the one he gets stuck in usually, but nevertheless, that lot are actually.fucking.delusional.

When the fuck did that happen, he never gets in the Brazil team, he wasnt even in the squad for the world cup for fuck sake, that really is insane. He has 7 caps in 4 years, I wish that was the way he was used for us, Im sure he wouldnt let us down if we played him twice a year in friendlies either

Exactly what i was thinking. He has had one good game for Brazil. I must have missed this whole "Brazil building the team around Lucas" business.
I was also intrigued by their belief.."Lucas will never let anyone down". I must warn them to be prepared to be let down quite often in the next 4 or 5 weeks.

It just confirms what I always thought about them, not that they are morons which is clear from the beginning but that they actually dont know anything about football generally, I mean to claim to be a great admirer of a player and then come out with a statement that basically implies you know absolutely nothing about his international career is just baffling

Lucas is the reason I have stopped watching footy. Either
a. he is great and I have misjudged his useless sideways panic passing and early release to a defender as something that is beyond my football sensibilities ergo I know nothing about football anymore. I remember the first time David Batty was picked for England and he said his job was "to pass it to the players who were good". I remember thinking 'this is the England team for fucks sake'. The point is, is that it's a lot easier to see the better side of Lucas (ish) if you've never been blessed with watching Molby, Souness etc. I know i've seen Alonso, Gerrard, Hamann and other great players, but they've been lumped in with such shit as Diao, Biscan, Diomede etc., and so someone like Lucas who isn't *bad* ( he actually isn't), but merely fucking average is moderately acceptable to watch when sat next to a Gerrard, a Mascherano, an Alonso. When expected to sit alongside the likes of Poulsen however, i'd rather eat my own eyeballs, but we know he *is* better than Poulsen, than Diao, than Biscan and to that extent, merits a place in the squad, kind of.
