So no ratings thread? i guess its hard to come up with anything over 4 for any of our players.. however i shall give it a go..

Kenny - 5

We had 3 centrebacks.. so why the hell were we in such a mad rush to hoof it forwards?? We were obviously going to be outnumbered to any knockdowns or flickon's... Patience was needed in this game and it was obvious the players thought that it would be a walk in the park and freaked out, never recovering. Gerrard was clearly not back to fitness. The lads looked so disorganised. Wilson is not a left back and both 'wing backs' were constantly caught in no mans land. Nowhere near their full backs and their wingers had all the space in the world. Ive really liked Kenny's approach since he has taken over but today was very poor.

Ive said it before and ill say it again --- Centrebacks need to composed on the ball.. Skrtel and Carra are both useless with the ball at their feet and time and time again this was the start of our problems when attacking. Why have players with the skill of Gerrard, Meireles and Suarez when the ball is rarely played to their feet.

The players looked under-prepared, unmotivated and out of their depth..

Reina - 5 - I dont think he felt at all comfortable on crosses due to the complete inability of our defenders to win a header.flap flap flap. The last goal was simply poor goalkeeping. It was obvious by this point that he was just incredibly frustrated. I was getting pretty annoyed with his constant hoofing. The quick long ball works occasionally, however last night Suarez didnt stand a chance.. so Reina may as well have just passed the ball back to Westham so they could pump it long to isolate Wilson- over and over again.

Kelly - 7 - I really rate this lad. Gutted he is injured. i hope its nothing too serious, it didnt look good though. He was going forward and defending well.. He was often caught out because of the formation but unlike Johnson has the awareness to not look like a fucking goose.

Carra - 4 - Im being harsh on him.. but thats because he is a mean bastard sometimes. He was giving Wilson so much shit during the game. Its not the first time we have seen him harass another one of our players. I dont mind the occasional rant if someone attempts to dribble the ball out of the box and gets robbed.. they deserve a fucking bollocking..but time and time again Wilson was getting an earful because he couldnt beat Piqionne or Ba in the air... What the fuck is he supposed to do?? i think it really shook Wilson's confidence. Is shouting at a nervous 20 year old helpful? i think fucking not! Carra should have swapped with Wilson or tried to read the knock down better.. Wilson simply had no chance in the air against those monsters. Carra's passing has never been his strong suit and in games like this it really highlights his inability to pass comfortably when under pressure. Defensively he didnt do much wrong - He was just unfortunate to be playing alongside a complete fucking liability.

Skrtel - 2 - He would get a big fucking1 if it wasnt for a couple of decent headers. He has this stupid trait where he always wants to get into physical battles against players twice his size. He always fucking loses out and gives away a million freekicks. The perfect example of this was for the 3rd goal. He was never going to get to the ball infront of Cole.. So why didnt he just back off.. Skrtel is quicker than Cole so it wasnt as though Cole would turn at him and beat him for pace. He almost plays to his opponants strengths and im sick of seeing the same stupid errors in judgement. His passing was fucking shite. He looked like that kid in school that never connected to the ball properly. scuffs everything with 35% of his volleys coming off his shin.

Wilson - 2 - Looks tidy on the ball and when up against players closer to his size dominated in the air.... WORST GAME EVER though. got raped consistantly and at one point looked as though he couldnt do anything right. Was always out of position and really struggled to understand his role. He is clearly not a left back and i fear that this game may be a difficult one for him to shake. Not only was he getting buttfucked but he was getting harassed playing in his non prefered position. I actually like the look of him and i think a back 3 of Wilson Kyriakos and Agger would work really well as they are all very good with the ball at their feet. Kyriakos obviously provides the aerial presence that the other two lack.

Johnson - 5 - Attacked quite well.. one of the few players that looked up for this game. Defensively a liability as always. He looks so lost in a 442 so there is no wonder he is clueless in other more complex formations. His leap seems to have improved this year... perhaps the conditioning training at Melwood?

Lucas - 5 - Cant believe he is still in the starting 11.. The epitome of average. He isnt great at defending or attacking.. he is simply ok at both. He gets bullied in the midfield far too easily. He doesnt excel in any department. At least with Mascherano you knew that the opposition would be in for a hard time. You may lose some attacking threat but you make up for it in the defending department. He is the Turnip of the vegi world. Boring as sin.

Gerrard - 5 - Unfit, looked fucked. Tried to get the team moving but by doing so left huge gaps in the midfield that were exploited time and time again. I really felt for him... until that freekick in the last 10 minutes.. what a waste!

Kuyt - Minus 3 - i really like Kuyt and consider him a clever and actually quite skillful player.. but last night he was horrid. Truely Truely woeful. He gave the ball away time and time again and some of his passes were the worst ive ever seen. He played a cross at one point that was so bad i kicked the coffee table - i have a huge bruise to remind me of how inept he was.

Meireles - 4 - not one of his better games but he looked to be struggling several times after knocks in the first half. He is fundermental in Kenny's goal to play pass and move football. He is fearless when it comes to receiving the ball. He always wants it andd never vanishes in a game. Unlike some others we have in the squad. i hope his injury isnt too bad.

Suarez - 8 - Looked VEEEEEEEEERY Frustrated but my god is he a quality player. He hardly touched the ball in the first half but whenever he did he looked to make something happen. Could have had two if it wasnt for Green pulling off some great saves.

Cole - 6 - Looked alright . Doesnt get involved anywhere near as much as i would like. When he was young he had a similar style to Meireles. Always wanted to be on the ball - pulling the strings. These days he vanishes for long periods.

Ngog - 7 - tried hard... his direct running caused them some problems.

I have been away with work for a while and only returned sat night - i should have gone home and prepared for work today but instead decided to watch my beloved liverpool... Due to the kickoff time out here i did it knowing that i would have to work a full day with only 4 hours sleep, wearing unironed shirt and being completely unprepared. I am quite happy to put up with the pain if we do well... Last night however had me cursing the bastards all day long. Today ended up being the longest day ever...

not happy.

The game again highlighted why we absolutely must get a new CM and CB. Also the lack of squad depth was well exposed as we clearly had a few players well below 100%.

Think that's fair Gareth, a bit kind to Reina perhaps.

And Gerrard. Yes he's unfit and all that but it was a shocking performance

In danger of stretching your credibility a little with that one Garteth. 😉

On the whole I agree, but I have a thing about N'gog I can see few saving graces, and on that basis I can't see how you marked him equal second in your rating with Kelly.

As terrible as he's been of late, I thought he made a good impact when he came on, even holding the ball up well and was willing to run at them with some success too.

I hope that Suarez wasn't worthy of an 8, unless his 9 is ten times better and his 10 a hundred times better - as in, unless you're using the Richter scale to measure his performance then I'm not having it at all.

GARY FUCKING CAHILL!!!

Not for the ridiculous prices quoted.

Nice write-up Gareth. But I don't agree with all that.

Reina - 5

Kelly - 7

Carra - 4 - Clearly partly to blame for 2 of their goals.

Skrtel - 3 - Clearly partly to blame for 2 of their goals.

Wilson - 2 - Sunk without trace in the 1st half. 2nd wasn't much better but thank God someone told him to stop hoofing .. he was showing Carra up in that respect.

Johnson - 7 - a bit unlucky not to score with that header.

Lucas - 4- anonymous, road-kill .... courtesy of Parker & Noble.

Gerrard - 5

Kuyt - 6.5 - one of the few who actually looked up for it and put in 110%.

Meireles - 4

Suarez - 8 - Torres who ?

Cole - 6.5 - his comeback continues and it is true .. he could be very valuable both in the PL & EL.

Ngog - 3 - Will he EVER look up ? Will he EVER pass ? Will he EVER stop running to physically run through 4 defenders ?

Some people need to get their head fucking seen to. Suarez was rubbish for the most part.

I'm not sure "rubbish" is an accurate description but, apart from the goal, he was nothing great. No arguing the lad's ability and he could be great for us but he wasn't even good for most of the match. Utterly absent in the 1st half and, while he did his best to hold the play against some big defenders, lost possession constantly. His passing wasn't great either. He had two good moments - a nicely taken shot on the volley and a turn of exquisite dimensions. Other than that he was not remotely close to an 8.

Kuyt at 6.5 is unbelievable. He should have been shot and the time he tried to beat a player with a touch from the outside of his right foot, kicked it 12 yards out of play and then turned and threw his arms up as to why there was no one there cost me a tv screen.

Carra, Wilson, Lucas, Skrtel - they were all poor with the ball but I almost excused them for every pass in this one cause they would have found more movement in a museum. I've never seen us look so disinterested in finding space or looking to get the pass up front. We've certainly played worse than this on many occasions in the last 15 years but I don't think I've seen worse movement - it was abysmal and gave our lads at the back nothing to work with.

Carra's yelling deserves a mention cause it's pissing me off. The adage of "remove the log from your own eye........." comes to mind at times and in this one particularly he was average yet seemed intent on taking it out on everyone else. There are only so many times you can scream your lungs out at teammates in front of 50,000 people without affecting team harmony. I think Carra has well and truly passed that point.

Everyone else, between 2 & 4. Wankers.

Lol.

What, exactly, did Gerrard do during the game. Granted he wasn't a 100% physically but he was unsighted for most of the match.

I was thinking he looked like he is starting to put on weight. Suppose thats what turning 30 does for you, hes always been a rake even after injuries.

Lucas, worse than Gerrard? I'm not having that! There was a reason he was horribly exposed, that was because Gerrard wasn't working with him.

Oh and how Meireles gets a 4 is beyond me. He bottled it. Again. When his number was called, that was the quickest he ran all game, to get off the fucking pitch and he was limping!

Gerrard isn't a holding midfielder, that is Lucas job. And he did it terribly. Gerrard got better as the game went on, slightly at least. And offered some attacking threat.

Meireles played with a knock, and that is why he bottled it as you say. He has been outstanding of late, and should maybe have been rested if we actually had any squad depth.

Lucas gets turned so easily that its baffling. He's been very poor for 3 games running now. And deserves the 1. Stupid fouls, offers nothing and gets bypassed by the opposition with ease.

We need better, much much better.

If you're playing three midfielders then when on the defensive it's a must that two of them defend in tandem and protect the back four. Meireles was playing just off the strikers and Gerrard was in between without really offering much either way until late on. Give Lucas flack yeah when it's justified, but he was exposed for most of the game because he was left with acres to cover on his own in a position he shouldn't even be playing in, everyone knows it yet he's still stuck there doing a job.

It's not the first time Meireles has bottled it either, regardless of his knock, it's probably my biggest criticism of him, he can't half be a shithouse sometimes. Watch Andy Carroll's goal against us again.

Mate, Lucas was shite. I've defended him a number of times, but my comments are justified.

He gets turned easily every time, and players just glides past him. That has nothing to do with Gerrard and Meireles being caught out of postition. Its one of Lucas biggest flaws and it gets exposed badly at times.

I'm not arguing the toss over that though, I've just said it's a role he shouldn't be played in (if he should be played at all) and if he's exposed then it'll happen more, so if we're gonna persist with him then he needs defensive help from one of the other midfielders - he wasn't getting it.

Sorry but those ratings are embarassing. Raul gets 4 for doing what? Gerrard gets a 3 for leaving Lucas on his own in the trenches?? Lucas gets a 1 because all his buddies deserted the trenches and left him there to hold the ship by himself???!!!

I'm also far from convinced that Suarez was fantastic - or at least as fantastic as a 5 can suggest. I thought Kelly and Johnson were the only ones who came out with any admiration; Kelly cause he played fairly well till his hamstring curled up in a ball and Johnson cause he just kept going all game and looked one of the few to really want to get stuck in.

Kuyt is about right but how anyone else got the same score as him (all our CB's) or how anyone got a lower score than him (Lucas) defies my imagination.

Reina 4

Carra 2
Skrtel 2
Wilson 3 Gets one more because it was his debut and all

Kelly 6 Best player until injured
Lucas 4
Meireles 3
Gerrard 3
Johnson 6 Best player over the course of 90 minutes

Kuyt 2
Suarez 6 A few moments of pure class, a few good ones and a handful dodgy ones as well. Still one of few players actually looking like a Liverpool-player

Cole 5 Better than his last cameos still some way from the top
Ngog 5 Made an impact albeit slim. Needs to score a goal again soon

Lucas was shite. End off.

Meireles was our only creative spark before he got that knock, maybe he should have been subbed after 30 mins. But up until then he was one of our better players.

Gerrard missplaced a lot of passes, but progressed while the game went on. He was behind a lot of our attemepts late on. Trenches? Lucas gets outplayed because he's a one dimensional one paced midfielder.

But what does it matter. They were all shite. We lost. Lets move on.
