For 38 games seasons it stands at 31.

For 42 game seasons it stands at 34.

Suarez has 20 with half the season to go. It should get broken shouldnt it.

Discuss.

It's hard to be sure, he's got a decent run of games now to get a few, but I guess it's possible that his conversion rate will go back to last seasons and we won't get half as many. I think Sturridge coming back will give him an extra boost, and he could go on a little burst again. He could potentially break that record within four or five games.

Hopefully we can somehow get to play Norwich four or five times again this season.

Fingers crossed, but I don't think we can take it for granted yet. 18 more games, and say he 'only' scores 10 (still a very acceptable scoring ratio for any PL striker) he won't beat the record. He has been scoring at a phenomenal rate, but we can't expect him to keep it up. I'd say he's odds on, but odds on bets don't always come up.

Just goes to show what an amazing effort it was to score 31 in a season. Suarez has been streets ahead of Sergio and Van Persie and some of the best strikers in the world for 5 months yet he's still got have an excellent second half of the season to break the record.

If he breaks the record then we'll be in the Champions League.

Yep, that's what I was thinking. If he scores more than 34, then I'd suggest we may be champions.

He's got a chance.

But as Gerry points out his shot conversion ratio earlier before Christmas was 25%. Which was double his 12.5% ratio last season. I think now it has slipped to 21%, which is still excellent but it might be that the regression has set in.

To guess whether he's going to stay at the plus 20% conversion level you have to pick what you think the reasons are for the improvement. If you think the biggest factors are an improvement in his game and/ or that we're creating better quality chances this season then you'd have to say he's got a great chance.

My worry is that the improvement seems a little too much for it to be all him or the team. To go from 8% to 12.5% could easily be a natural improvement because of the two factors above. Doubling the efficiency, seems a little bit harder to fathom. I'm expecting regression to the mean, but it might not be particularly noticeable til next season.

He did miss the opening 6 games remember. If he had those 6 games added on I think he could have beaten the record comfortably. As it is, it will be tight.

As he tires and the World Cup draws nearer I expect his scoring to drop off.

I'd love for him to break the record though. For all the shit he's gotten here, it'd be funny if he left holding a record like that.

I dont think it will be, i just dont see how he can keep up his amazing form, he's been ridiculously good so far, if he keeps it up it will be the best performance over a season since ive been watching football

So 22 scored. 10 more goals in 17 games for the 38 game record outright. 13 more takes the PL record. Keep it up.

Do we have any two week breaks coming up? I think maybe @FoxForceFive is right and he needs a little rest, which will perk up his form to December levels again, hopefully Sturridge coming back will provide a valuable boost.

A two week break would mean international friendlies so I dont think Suarez will get a break.

I think the fixtures are now back to weekly rather than the packed Christmas period, and the next FA Cup tie is after the Villa match so we can rest Suarez then. Sturridge coming back at this period is great as he can play in the FA Cup to get his match fitness back while Suarez rests. Hopefully we would have made a few signing by then so that the likes of Henderson and Sterling can take a week off too.

Good plan, who do we have in the FA Cup tie? Sturridge should be enough.

Bournemouth, I think. We then play Everton in midweek. Good time to give Suarez a rest vs Bournemouth. We should be able to win with Sturridge, Alberto, possibly Ibe.

Well, I remember someone here consistently claiming that Suarez goalscoring form last season was the exception rather than the normal.
Then we heard that he'd never score 20 goals or more this season.
Now I'm seeing conversion ratio % and more predictions.

He's now on 22 (21 according to the PL FL site) in 16 league games - keep the predictions coming. And the goals...
Oh and BTW - he also has 12 assists. I believe it's the best in the league.
