Pre Match - Wetiring Woy's Wast Dance

Incompetence from VAR. But definitely bias in the media. If Salah had done it there would have been a 5 match ban campaign in the media.

This.

I'm not saying that it's necessarily 'pro-English', but they certainly turn a blind eye to certain players behaving in a way that get others (Sadio and Mo, for example) crucified.

Despite sometimes thinking that VAR and refs in general have it in for us I think it is safe to say it is simply a case that they are just totally incapable of doing the job that they are responsible for. Take Spurs third goal yesterday for example. The ball clearly comes of Kane's arm in the built up yet the goal is still awarded. Similarly in one of our games the ball hits Bobby's arm in the lead up to a goal which was duly ruled out.
Absolutely no consistency.
If they were consistent with their judgements there would be a lot less complaints

Exactly this. Like the foul on Nat Phillips in the Man United game. Personally I don't see it as a foul but those type have been given all season and then not in that case. No consistency and if a player or manager criticise it then they're fined.

It's probably a bit over the top and we would rightly slag off other fans for this but its pretty much how I feel at the moment.

Fuck me but there are some mindboggling decisions made against us in the video.
It would be interesting to see compilations for other teams.
Leeds had an outrageous off side against them early doors in the season.

I generally subscribe to the foul-up theory rather than the stitch-up theory in such matters, but you can't help wondering when you see a montage like that.

If you look at some of those decisions, and change only the most outrageous decisions - the bitters, blowing up the first half early V the scum, no penalties V Newcastle and Southampton and the chavs - and we're comfortably in second place.

Some of the decisions that we've seen given / not given in our games were absolutely criminal, especially when you seen them not given / given in identical situations in other matches.

Yeh I think we can all agree that we shouldn't become some conspiracy believing nutter like everyone on blue moon and Rosco and Dantes.
But I think we have compiled more than our fair share of evidence that the system isn't working in it's current iteration.

Part of the problem was that they continuously changed the rules throughout the season.
For example the penalty that Gomez conceded early in the season was shortly afterwards deemed not to constitute a penalty thereafter.
It really is maddening and extraordinary that more doesn't get made of it by the media.

Agreed. Like when the officials came out a few days after initially pretending that that citeh goal wasn't yards offside, when the whole planet knew that it was, and said "Well, yes, going forward, that will be disallowed" and we all went "You mean like it should have been to begin with?!?!?". There are so many examples of what happened to us NOT happening to others... Robbo's pen V Brighton, mirrored TWICE the very next day, neither given. Sadio getting fucking mugged all season long, nary a look from the prick with the whistle... Meanwhile that prick in Salford doesn't even have to be touched to be awarded ghost penos.

And, on top of that, these cnuts call US LiVARpool last season, despite numbers showing that we were at the very bottom of the 'most helped out by VAR' table.

The inconsistency is mental. And infuriating. Like you, I'm no conspiracy theorist... I don't think that the officials are out to get us. But, if they're not, then they are simply inept and incompetent beyond reason, and massive changes are needed.

We won't see them, but they're needed.

I think the whistle against United was the most frustrating of all, as it is just so basic. With VAR we are getting fucked by fine margins, but they are kind of consistent. The handballs all a joke, especially that Dier on Firmino one.

Actually just look at those 6 games lost on the bounce at home to Bottom 8 clubs ... win those (as we obviously should be doing) and we are neck and neck with City. With VvD, Hendo and Thiago available all season (Fabs in midfield) we would have won the PL again ... and nobody can convince me otherwise !

It will be very interesting to see what changes are made this Summer. Hopefully we'll go down the Dutch route.

Neville :

"For Liverpool to come back from those six home defeats in a row - wow. Champions losing six on the bounce at home, to come back in the way they have, you need to give them real credit.

"Absolutely Liverpool will challenge [next season]. They would have challenged this season if Virgil van Dijk had stayed fit. A team should not fall apart to the extent that they did off the back of one player getting injured but he is such an important player.

"I'm not great believer in this [idea] that the front three are done. The performances are still really high level and they've performed at such a high level for three or four years, sprinting a million miles every season that team. They deserve a season where they dipped a little bit.
"I've got no problem with Liverpool dipping a bit this season. City did last season. Great teams do that every three or four years.

Maybe it's the pandemic turning everything upside down, but there are times when he talks more sense than Carra. [Washes mouth out with soap and water]

The only thing I'd add is that the main reason we were so far ahead of Citeh when we won the title was Laporte - their only defender in decent form at the time - getting crocked. It isn't just us that can suffer like we did when losing VvD - and they had a sod of a lot less excuse for it with the funding they have behind them.

It does my head in. Neville said it there, heard it on the radio yesterday. We didn't just lose Virgil this season.

We lost all 3 of our centre backs for the vast majority of the season. That's before you even start taking into account the prolonged periods Henderson, Alisson, Jota, Trent, Keita (haha), Thiago, Fabinho were out too

Which makes finishing 3rd season such an incredible achievement. Its apparently worth about 70 mill £ to the club going from 8th to 3rd.

I think he is being very unfair saying it is due to one player. We lost both other senior centre backs in quick succession later on in the season too, our new striker had a long term injury and our captain missed a good chunk of games.

Not to disagree directly, but for me it was our CB losses which lay at the heart of everything, and within that it was specifically the absence of VvD which threw our whole shape out of kilter. IMO we could have dealt with the other things far more effectively had he been available.

Yep, it's a way to take a dig at us in a piece that is supposed to be singing our praises, while at the same time giving a route to make the claim that Man U finished the season so poorly because, just like Liverpool, they lost their main centre half.

Yeah, losing our centre halves meant that we had to compromise our midfield too by taking Fabinho out. The whole thing was a giant clusterfuck

Agreed. He's acting the bollocks there...

As a former pro, he knows better than anybody that we lost ALL of our CBs, which meant we lost our two most important MFs as well, and this had several dominio affects on the team and it's ability to play the way it's set up to.

He's just a cunt.
