Botman and Joelinton touch and go for them.

Would be fantastic if that ugly, mouthy thug can't travel, might mean we actually get through this without having any of our players assaulted.

How about Szoboszlai at RB? He is already used to covering there for Trent half the time; so it will come naturally 🙂 If Valverde can do it for Real, so can our workhorse midfielder. I would trust him more than Trent against Gordon and Isak.

Not for me. I'm not a fan of putting square pegs (however adaptable) in round holes, and we'd miss him in midfield against the junkyard dogs they have in there.

I bet you’ve stuck your square peg in many a round hole over the ages!!!

Normally, I'd be super confident about this game, but it feels like we've been here before, you know.
Getting 3 points the week before against a big team away, while our rival for the title dropped points.
Now our rivals have a "on paper" difficult away game while we play against a team we should beat at home.
Just feels like we're gonna fuck it up while Arsenal somehow win.

There’s no way on earth that Arsenal win away to Forest…rest easy

Newcastle don’t tend to draw much—they’re either completely on it or way off the pace, with very little in between. If they’re having an off day, you’ll know straight away because their press will look tired and sluggish.

If I remember right, the first time Howe brought Newcastle to Anfield, he tried to grind out a result by sitting deep and time-wasting from the 20th minute. We managed to get over the line and won 2-1. The next time, he went the opposite way and went full throttle with a high press, which led to a chaotic game that finished 4-2. There’s usually a bit of madness when we play Newcastle, and these games can be unpredictable. That said, we’ve got a much better keeper and defence, plus home advantage. If we turn up, we should be in control, but if we don’t, their midfield and attack can do some damage.

Goes without saying that Trent and Gordon and Gordon is something Howe will be looking to exploit. I wouldn't be completely shocked if Slot goes for Quansah to counter it and save some legs.

Depending on how other results go Newcastle would go third if they win, They also create some distance between themselves and Bournemouth/Brighton for the 5th spot and likely Champions League.

If anything they'll play their best team and rest players for their weekend FA Cup game.

We'd need to really look at the fitness of players but we don't have a game on the weekend so we have a week before we play in Paris next Wednesday. Should play a full strength team, taking off anyone who needs a break if we are doing well, and stick a few more points on the board with hopefully Arsenal losing again.

Newcastle looked knackered in the 2nd half against Forest. Last 15 minutes they could barely move.
Both teams will feel Sundays game so a bit of rotation or ability to field fresh legs could be very beneficial.

@MomoWASright made a great point that Newcastle also need to have eyes on their FA Cup game at the weekend, whilst we get the weekend off. I wonder if they will think that rotating some players to ensure a good trophy run there too is a better investment. Let's hope.

I hope Gordon is one of those rested. I rate Barnes, but he doesn't have the raw pace or trickery that Gordon has that could terrorise Trent. Touch wood.

Barnes lacks fitness/stamina too.

Yep - full strength needed for this one - regardless of any injury worries. We need to win this game, my only concern is Slot being out.
