Pre Match Pre Match - Everton (H) - Weds - 20:00

It looks like Nunez has checked out for the season. He was apparently abysmal in the two games he played for his national team.

I really hope he doesn't start.

His brain’s been checked out since we signed him.

Would be nice to see him get 30 mins here and then start from the weekend. I'd definitely start Quansah just because I think we need to step up our physical game for this if the Goodison game is anything to go by.

I just hope we have the fans creating a firey atmosphere and the players going out and putting in a statement performance that gives everyone no doubt that we are coming back from this break and ready to collect #20.

It would be nice if the crowd were fired up, but it's a 2 way street. There's nerves on the crowd, so the team need to start strong to get the crowd up. If the team is waiting for the crowd they'll be waiting til July

It doesn't need to be a 2 way street. The fans know that the players respond to the crowd, so we need to give them something to respond to.

Yeah, I think the crowd deffo needs to be on it from the start of the game. Both will work together imho.

There's always some needle in a derby game, but whereas a game at Goodison is usually basically a battle with not much football involved, it tends to be the other way around at Anfield. And we're better at football than they are.
Plus all those snide "near-fouls" they got away with at Goodison won't fly at our place. They basically spent the whole game not quite doing enough to give a foul away, but with the Anfield crowd on the ref's back they won't be able to pull that shit on Wednesday. I just checked and the ref at Goodison gave 20 fouls against us, 9 against them. WTF.
So long as we don't go into the game rusty, I'm confident. I'll be more confident if Cody is back, we've missed the balance and threat he gives us on the left.

Has there been a more crucial derby in recent years? Because of the way the fixtures pan out, it's a must win to put any nerves to bed. Assuming they beat Fulham tomorrow.

In an ideal world we beat Everton and then they bite back against Arsenal at Saturday lunch time and jobs a good'un.

Referee: Sam Barrott. Assistants: Lee Betts, Timothy Wood. Fourth official: Darren Bond. VAR: Paul Tierney. Assistant VAR: Adam Nunn.

Last year's, IMHO... We were still fighting for the title when it kicked off. We weren't when it ended.

We've won 3-2 (Soton) and 6-3 (Spurs) with Barrott in charge in the league this season.
He was awful when we played Plymouth in the FA cup, mind.

I agree it doesn't need to be....but it always is. Crowd will start strong but the team need to pick the baton up, or the crowd will quieten. It happens all the time.

Then the anxiety creeps in and the crowd gets tetchy and annoyed

Slots presser:
Trent is injured and not focused on outside talk
Gravy is fit
Alisson back in training and will have the final check this afternoon for the concussion protocol, expected to start
Bradley is back in training and has had a few sessions. Can be on the bench or start. Slot said he might be careful with him. Late decision to be made
