Pre Match Pre Match - PSG (A) - Weds 20:00

Wow, what a smash and grab. PSG must be absolutely gutted.

The commentators are trying to rewrite this as a mature performance, a sign of a great team getting something out of the game when not playing well... nah, we were under the cosh for most of the 90mins, rode our luck and were bailed out by a truly world class goalkeeping performance.

Happy for Nunez and Elliot. I think both needed that. Endo and Curtis played big parts when they came on too.

We play like today at Anfield and lose so many 1v1 battles, and we'll lose 3-0.

FWIW though, it's soooooo annoying listening to that Manc Fan Ferdinand commentating on our games. You could tell how gutted he was at the end there.

There was very little to praise about our use of the ball, but we dug in and took our chance when it came. I would have liked to see the substitutions earlier, but all the ones I wanted came on and made a difference.

I'm not sure Slot had any answers to their game other than to dig in, which keeps the nerves alive for the second leg. I can't understand why we played Jota when the plan was to go direct to avoid their press, but never mind. What a result!

Maybe @tombrown can remember if the French have a word for schadenfreude

We worked incredibly hard today.

TAA and Robbo actually got a grip of their wingers somewhat in the 2nd half, and probably won 60% of their battles (in the 2nd half).

But going forward, Salah and Diaz got very little change out of their FBs (throughout the game), we lost many 1 v 1 battles there.

Hoping for a better performance and the Anfield crowd to carry us through. Short of that another smash and grab will do just fine.

Generally speaking though, we have one too many weak links in the side at the moment. I don't think you can afford to vacate the midfield in order to double up on attackers or to have nothing going on up front to relieve the pressure / give the opposition a reason to drop back.

Work to do in the summer.

Jota is one of our cleverest players, but it was a poor match up for him tonight against Marquinhos who is a real Rolls Royce. Put Nunez on him at Anfield and make sure Marquinhos gets bullied.
He was our second best forward after Harvs. That even includes Nunez who was our 3rd best forward.
