Giving playing significant playing time to Fringe players and youths that wouldn’t normally play keeps they match fit, sharp and in a better shape to come in and influence league and euro games - while also allowing key players to rest - winning, if that’s what happens also keeps momentum going and builds a strong mentality.

We’re in great shape, with almost an entire squad fit, no-one looking fatigued and plants of players without loads of playing time.

Do you know what sets great teams apart from also-rans? It’s the desire to win every game without exception. There’s no fucking chance the great Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or City teams would ever countenance losing.

And here you are - not advocating for weekend team or even a youths team being sent out … but actively hoping we get beat.

You’d be as well coming clean that you’ve been a Man Utd fan all along.

Tbf he's got a point . Twice in the past few years we've blown big chances of titles and a CL when chasing a quadruple. I'm convinced we'd have won at least one of the big ones in 2022 if we hadn't been so exhausted.

And he was actively warning that it would happen again last year when we were going strong in all 4 - and it did happen.

Personally I'm not worried enough by it to want us to lose, but there's a logic to it.

Yeah, I understand the perspective. And if we go out of the FA Cup in this round or next I won't be heartbroken. But that's a step short of actively wanting to lose.

We have a big enough and healthy enough squad at the moment to rotate but still handily deal with a lower league side.

And, as others have mentioned, we have some players in need of minutes, so we might as well play them.

The signs of exhaustion last year were much more evident than this season. Which isn't to say it can't still happen, but it seems like a less imminent concern

Agreed. I really do want us to win the title though. Almost even more so after being robbed of the chance to properly celebrate it cos of coivd. In some ways it almost feels a bit ridiculous to be talking about the quad given all the ways we've found to not win the title in the past.

Completely agree. I would heartily trade all three other competitions for the title today if I knew such a trade could be done.

The fear of heartbreak is too great.

But since I can't, we might as well keep trying to win every match between here and the Champions League final.

Then we need to use our squad more effectively. It’s big enough.

I think the “exhausted” line is over used - it was more about players not in form for various reasons at a key point in the season and you could pin losing the league on 4 games in the run - or if you like 2 key periods either where we derailed our season and I don’t blame fatigue for either.

Anyway, my point is, again, if it wasn’t clear - no issue with making sensible changes and lots of them for cup games and all of them if need be - my problem is wanting us to lose and thinking that’s somehow a positive.

I don't think its wanting to lose.
It's trying to prove a point they have already lost on the internet

One great Utd side pulled out of the comp altogether which was the start of this competition losing its once great appeal.

As for the tired old Utd fan joke, you might want be the one who needs to come out and admit he’s the troll.

It's different this season, we don't have 8 players out injured. We have a fully fit squad (except Trent who's feigning injury) and our squad players need minutes too.
We are about to have a league season defining run of 5 games in 15 days. I couldn’t care less if everyone is fit now. Lose one or two key players and a collapse like last season is possible. Playing in another cup competition during the next two months will be a distraction we don’t need.

I’d rather we get that fixture date off to rest everyone.

Fringe plsyers can get minutes in games we are winning well.

Thaf logic cost us the two major trophies twice in recent years.

What do you think the reason it’s only ever happened once is?

Pretty sure they’ve regretted it ever since.

Arne Slot ahead of Liverpool's match against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday ⤵️

🗣Slot confirms Sunday will be 'too early' for Trent to return from injury - 'difficult to say' if he'll be fit for the Merseyside derby on Wednesday but 'if he is fit then we will use him'

🗣Slot confirms that Alisson was only rested last night, no injury concern.

🗣Slot confirms that Tyler Morton has a shoulder injury which is expected to rule him out for 'four weeks or longer'

🗣️ Slot on Darwin Nunez: “Better indeed, in general we use the No.9 better and better than we did in the beginning of the season, in the beginning of the season we were quite dependent on our wingers.”

🗣️ Slot on team selection for Sunday: "It's important for some players who don't play a lot to play, so that they are ready for when we need them. We will definitely use a few that we haven't used much."

🗣️ Slot on Van Dijk: "Virgil deserves all the credit he gets and yesterday was an example of that. He was aggressive, he led the team with and without the ball. He was sharp and ready, and it was no coincidence it took 80 minutes for [Spurs'] first shot on target."

"I hope I can work with him for a long time."

🗣️ Slot on Bradley's assist for Szoboszlai: "It was a great choice because Macca had the ball. If Macca has the ball I would make the run as a teammate as well because he will find you with the perfect pass. Of course, we always have Ibou and Virgil behind the ball as well as Ryan."

🗣️ Slot on Conor Bradley: "I think it's fair to say that, for many positions, we have two very good players. I can go through the whole team. It's normal when you work at a club for this magnitude. Right full-back is definitely a position where that is true."

🗣️ Slot on players' family lives: "They have to be at home as well to be a father and a husband. If you are only a player for 15 years with only 3 weeks off, and if you can only be a father or husband for 3 weeks a year, that is not normal. We take that into account."

🗣️ Slot on chasing four trophies: "I wasn't here last season so I can only tell you we are now in a good place. The players are fit and ready. We're in a good place but we also know how long the season still is and the difficult challenges we still have."

🗣️ Slot on James McConnell: "He is competing with the other midfielders. He always gives everything he has. Tyler Morton is out with an injury for a while, so that means he was maybe our sixth midfielder and James is taking that position now."

🗣️ Slot on which goalkeeper will play in Carabao Cup final: "We never know the situation around the final, so I cannot guarantee anything so far in advance."

🗣️ Slot on Aston Villa game being brought forward to this month: "We want to compete for every trophy and competition, so we cannot complain about the amount of games. I don't see it an advantage or a disadvantage. We play Sunday-Wednesday; Villa will probably do the same."

🗣️ Slot on having a near fully-fit squad: "It's something you want. If the games grow and grow, you need the players. I praise the performance staff and the players, how fit they want to stay, how professional they are before and after sessions, so it is no surprise."

🗣️ Slot again calls for 23-player matchday squads: "If you are a club that plays so many games, then you have to have 22/23 players. To go to a game with 20 is no problem, but you want to create something and give academy players a chance once in a while. It's a big problem for academy players."

In your opinion.

Dreamie, our key players rarely play in domestic cup games - so no, I don’t think they were fatigued from games they weren’t playing great amounts of.

Salah’s barely reached double figures of appearances in each domestic cup competition since he joined.

Again, the point you’re either purposefully missing or too stubborn to see is there is zero risk if we’re rotating sensibly and giving our fringe players & youth teamers something else to do other than watching from the stands.

If there’s a chance to actually win something then we bring them in.

Arsenal went out of both cup comps early last season - didn’t help them win anything.

City played more games than us last season.

LOL at using City to try and make any point about squad balance and fatigue.

No point debating it any further. I think going for all four trophies is too great a risk, you don’t,

Fair enough.

Hopefully we won’t end up in the same situation we have previously where we get close to all four but ultimately lose the big two.

I’d just like us to win everything - even pre-season friendlies and I think it can be done if we’re smart about it.

I think luck plays a part, but also I think Slot’s doing something different to Klopp that isn’t creating the issues we’ve seen in previous seasons.

I think this is a great thing, as it is better than pushing back to later in the season. Which helps relieve any potential pressure on the end of the season. It also gives us the option to get 2 wins on the board when Arsenal don’t play (including Wedenesday’s derby).

Yeah, I really like Slots attitude in regards to football and games altogether.

I want to us to win everything too but I’m willing to cut a domestic trophy loose to increase the chance of winning the league.
