Nah, Nunez will not hold the ball up against Newcastle. Gakpo has a chance of dropping in and connecting our play.

Modo has got our strongest, and most likely, lineup spot on.

Will there be a reshuffle now when Endo is here?

What about the forward line? Gakpo to start, or Jota?

Didn’t see Konate, GaryMac, Jones, Thiago and Bajcetic in the training video that was posted on LFCTV. Virge and Gakpo beat Salah and Szobo in the final of the head tennis tournament.

Jota’s the type of player who does nothing of note for 3/4 of the time and then pops up from nowhere to score. One of the shortest on the pitch yet scores headers for fun.

He’s one of the most extraordinary ordinary player I’ve ever seen.

In that case:

Ali

Trent
Konate
Van Dijk
Robbo

Endo
Macca
Szobo

Diaz
Gakpo
Salah

No question about this, except maybe Jota in for Diaz. Think Gakpo will always get the call against stronger opponents. Klopp sees him as half a midfielder?

Diaz has been fantastic in the first two games and his pace is a massive weapon for us on the counter. Has to start imho.

Yeah Jota vs Gakpo is the only dilemma I think. Probably Gakpo to help the midfield

That's true, but maybe that means he'd be the more effective of the two coming on as sub later in the game. Tight one but on balance I'd pick Gakpo as well.

I picked Gakpo because I think we need a little pace and height up front. Nunez would be my second option.
Schär and Botman aren't exactly the scariest CB's in the world. Good in the air, but not the quickest.

I hope they play with a high press, might give us more chances to run at their defenders.

They played with a high press away at City, if they're gonna do it there, it's safe to say they'll do it at home against us.

This is something i'd quite like in our team for an away game. He always gives 10/10 work rate, always makes runs to find space, presses and is quite often very clinical when given a chance.

I like Gakpo but he showed a bit of uncertainty or lack of composure against Chelsea that concerns me. He was through on goal and should have slotted home but tried to pass to Mo who was in a worse position and the attack died. If he is going to be successful as our number 9 he needs to be brave.

This is true and it means that Darwin is now 3rd choice for the central attacking role. Pretty shocking outcome for that amount of investment.

Still plenty of time but this is a massive season for him, he needs to start edging his way into the team.

It wouldn't surprise me if, as the season goes on, Nunez comes to be regarded more as an option for starting on the left and drifting inside, which is how he tended to play in Portugal. We've seen in the past with Thierry Henry how that kind of approach can liberate some players to play their best football.

Hopeful something like that will see us start to get a tune out of him. Imo it’s going to be about Service to him, he doesn’t have many of the tools to carve out his own chances aside from pace which might work occasionally. An upturn in his finishing will also be required if he wants to be in the side regularly.

I think so too. It also allows him to start from slightly deeper positions and use his pace to make a bigger variety of runs. His hold up play isn't yet elite either so, despite his size, he's not that effective as a target man.

Thought he looked better there than in the middle for us last year as well (small sample though). However, he's third choice behind Diaz and Jota there too

Behind Diaz, certainly. About Jota I'm not so sure. He needs to play down the middle to make a real impact and I'd like to think the management have twigged to that.

----------------------Becker---------------------
Trent------Konate-----VVD----Robertson
--------Szobo------Endo------Mac-----------

----Salah----------Gapko---------Diaz------

I'd be tempted to throw them a curveball though and go with:

----------------------Becker---------------------
Gomez------Konate-----VVD----Robertson
--------Trent------Endo------Mac-----------
-----Szobo-----------------------Diaz-------
-----------------Salah-------------------------

I think it’ll be the first team (or Jota for Gakpo)…

The second team would prove more of a curve ball to our own players!

that first team will beat them.

It will be interesting to see if Endo can get up to speed. This is likely to be very fast paced. I like him and he has the experience to adapt, but most incoming midfielders take time, like Fabinho. I remember Thiago also struggled with the pace for several games and was just settling when he got injured against Everton.

Fingers crossed.
