Match Thread Fulham (A) - Sun Apr 6th 14:00

I thought we looked quite nice and zippy in possession until we started haemorrhaging goals, which basically looked like the result of a 14 point lead induced complacency. It was almost comical how deliberately we seemed to want them to score.

I think it was mainly just taking things for granted.

I'm saying it. If Salah didn't start today we would have won. We would have had pace and creativity on both flanks and stretched Fulham. The only thing Salah stretched today was the patience of fans

Yeah. The defence was shite, and I think if quansah started we wouldn't have conceded 3. But we had the chances to win that game and we fucked it
Last time Salah provided an assist or scored a goal from open play was Feb 26 against Newcastle

But as I say, we're actively replacing half the defence. We conceded due to their errors, but we looked toothless due to the attack. The fact our 2nd goal came from a fullback assist is even a more damning indictment on the attack

That midfield will not change this summer, and that's a fucking shame.

That attack will probably have a new 9, and that's it.

These are valid concerns going forward.
The midfield and attack was purring for the first 2/3 of the season, the issue is the final 1/3.

Slot has to manage better and use all his players. Not letting players, like Mo, play every game may mean 1 or 2 new players in midfield and attack maybe enough.

Tbf how many games have we even played since then?

It's probably just me but honestly this is how Mo seems to play most of the time to me, and has done for years. His median performance is "a bit shit but scored and assisted so who cares".

I hardly ever watch him and think wow, he's fucking TERRORISING them today! Only a matter of time til he scores! He might be the least exciting great attacker who's ever existed.

True it's only been 6 games, but that's 6 games and about 90 mins per game.

I disagree with purring. The midfield worked well, and the attack worked well, but never the 2 shall meet. There's always been a disconnect between our midfield and our attack

We play aggressive attacking football reluctantly, and prefer passive play. When we are forced to attack by circumstance, then we look much the same as we have all season, i.e. good enough to create chances. This crept into our play during wins where we sat back.

It doesn't matter why we coast too much and whether it's energy related, it does matter if there is no consequence to it.

Maybe the consequence will be seen in who goes, or who isn't first choice next year, rather than who is subbed this year, I guess.

I'd add to that list by saying our fans need to STOP singing "we're gonna win the league"...I hate that song, the time to sing it is when we mathematically can't lose the league. We go 1 nil up, the song starts...I'd like to think that it wouldn't affect the players, but as soon as that song started today then the whole game went to shit
Bollocks, back in the day we sang that from the first match of the season

I’m all for get the game won then apply low intensity see the game out. Now we seem to play low intensity and see how we work out to solve the opposition puzzle. Just go for the knock out.

Yeah, shit first half, especially from the defence, much better after the subs, Diaz and Harvey particularly. The encouraging thing for me was that from that point we looked like we'd score goals - it's been a long time since we've looked threatening.
I just don't want us to limp over the line. Get this league done and if the players go out on the lash and put on a few below par displays then raise their game for a proper football party in the last home game then I'll not begrudge them that. But the last time we won the league, we won it the night City didn't win their game, and I really want us to win it on the field, sealing the 3 points we need to get over the line, so that it feels like we actually won it and so the fans in the ground can go batshit mental at the final whistle.

Any chance we can rescind those contracts or at least check if penalty clauses were inserted everytime Mo and Virg serve up shit sandwiches?

Our squad has run out of steam exactly like last season. Luckily we had a similarly great start and no one else matched it. We will limp over the line and then need to address two things

1. Squad of players Slot will actually use
2. Motivation. The players just aren’t arsed at the moment are they?

Its understandable, pre Slot the midfielders were race horses and garbage collectors, now they are expected to work with the front 3 attackers, and the attackers are like "the fuck you doing here in the final third ? Just give me the ball and fuck off..."

Salah today was right fucking up there with the Trent against scum performance. Lazy assed fucking pile of steaming turd. We had a chance to keep the pressure on after a corner. Had the big boys in the box. But no. He let it go for a cunting throw. Meaning we had to send the centre backs back. Did absolutely fuck all. He can shove that 400k a week, mega signing on bonus and millions in agent fees up his fucking arse.

Just a meh game all round.

Back four were out of sorts, although I thought Jones had a good 2nd half and actually tried to drive the game.

Antonee Robinson has made Salah look average the last few times we have played them. That said, if Salah puts the ball in from the Diaz cross, and Jota opts to go across goal from his through ball, it would be a typical Salah performance.

Positives - Diaz, Jones, Bradley, Elliott.

Observations - Robertson, has sadly become a bit of a liability defensively.
Nunez, as much as I wish for it to happen for him/us, he offers nothing. I won’t elaborate on my frustrations, as it’s unfair but I just see no signs of improvement, no future for him at Liverpool.
Chiesa, he should be given Nunez’s minutes. I hope we do not sell in the Summer.

That’s happened for the last 6 or 8 weeks. Any left back now gets an easy game.

Regarding Salah, I get that Salah has looked average for the last few weeks, but AR has done this over the last few seasons.
I believe AR would be a good LB for us, but he is 27/28 and buying him most does not align with our transfer policy.

Aside from Salah, what are your thoughts on my other points….👍🏻

We've averaged 2.2 goals per match scoring 22 goals over the past 10 PL games. That's an almost identical rate to the rest of the season and that in some of our toughest matches too.

Not that I disagree with your 'manage players better; comment in the slightest. I think we've looked tired and clearly Mo. is out of sorts but we've (mostly) still got the job done.

The Salah apologists are remarkably quiet of late aren't they.

Yeah, that was one of the worst performances by Salah for God knows how long. He instantly looked better with a proper RB behind him and more creativity around him.
Bradley has to start against West Ham and we'll suddenly look much better in terms of balance.

Everyone was poor yesterday. It was quite easy to see that this team had adopted a "the league is won" attitude.
That is inexcusable. For 15-20 mins in the first half we were on the beach.

I expect 100% change in attitude until its mathematically safe to celebrate.
Starting with 3 points against West Ham at home.
