Forget Höwedes too. Like you said he was most likely there to watch Saleh.I think it's because Rodgers was at Schalke's game, but I'm almost certain he watched Salah. Well, maybe he watched Draxler and some other players (Höwedes?) too, but we've been in close contact with Salah's agents in recent days, while Draxler just signed a new long-term contract and is surely out of our reach financially.
Draxler would be great. He's had all the big clubs enquiring after him him though so I doubt he's an option really - I guess like rurik said, we were at the game to scout someone else!
Agreed I'm not really convinced by Salah.
He's a better option than say Sterling and Ibe, but is the wage and/or transfer fee worth it? I dunno ... I liked rurik's arguement why it IS important but I think we need to hit the jackpot here (as we did with Studge and Coutinho) and he poses a serious risk ...
don't know why but I ge the feeling hte owners will splash big if we're in the top 4 by Jan 1st ... there is definitely a chance here and they sense it.
We got Suarez ... We got Coutinho ... We got Sturridge ... Miracles happen ... Draxler is the next one. Okok - let me dream Keni.
And if Salah is our marquee signing, I will be disappointed ... when was the last time a star in Switzerland went to any league and contribtued immediately?
Alexander Frei, Stephane Chapuisat, Gökhan Inler, Tranquillo Barnetta, Granit Xhaka, Timm Klose.
Barnetta? I thought he flopped ...
Never heard of Xhaka or Klose (bar his twin brother who was born in Poland 😉).
Frei is a good shout and Chapuisat was a looong time ago.
That being said ... well said, though if I edited to 'England,' I may have you stumped!
Xhaka plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach and played for Basel together with Shaqiri. Klose played for Nürnberg and plays for Wolfsburg now. Barnetta played well for Leverkusen but struggles since he's left for Schalke.
Swiss players in the Premier League? I do struggle a bit. On the top of my head there's Senderos at Fulham, Djourou used to play for Arsenal and Gelson Fernandes for City.
@Le Chacal should know better maybe.
Our very own Henchoz!
Well seriously, swiss players seem more suited to the Bundeslga for numerous reasons...1st is cultural and language, they adjust better therr and can contribute immediately. They just want to play in the Bundesliga when they re kids.
Barnetta had some very god seasons at Leverkusen but then he struggled a bit with injuries, he still managed to get a good contract at Schalke but competition is harsh there (Draxler being main reason as LTW pointed out) . I think hes on loan somewhere now.
Xhaka seems a good prospect but still early days...Some say he's the next Schweinsteiger, eye for the pass and very strong shot.
He's te one I think could do well in England and particularly for us in the middle. I'm not sure hes keen on moving out of Germany right now though.
Salah? tricky player but not what we need
don't know why but I ge the feeling hte owners will splash big if we're in the top 4 by Jan 1st ... there is definitely a chance here and they sense it.
You're welcome but LTW post was about players joining the prem directly from the swiss league. Thanks WUM Modo..
We were discussing with Holle about swiss players in the Premier League...Salah played in Egypt before coming to Basel didnt he?
All the players we re talking about are playing in Germany as well arent they?
You're welcome but LTW post was about players joining the prem directly from the swiss league.
In that case my bad, I thought it said prem, might be edited....Well I dont recall any to be honest...bit pointless
His first post said "any league"...
Degen? He came via Germany too?
Salah is still only 21 though. Shouldnt matter if he played in Switzerland or not.
He looks a very exciting player, but its all about the fee. If its inflated tobthe extreme I'd stay away.
We're also linked with Xhaka.
Switzerland have some very exciting players coming through and you can see that from the WC quals.
Shaqiri proably made a bad choice moving to Bayern imho. He needs to be playing reguarly. We've been linked with a loan move aswell.
