Mint. Not for me of course. I went on them because my lad wanted a go........

???

They're the annoyingly enthusiastic people hanging round that want to tell you Harry Potter fun facts and trivia.

You and your lad double-teamed them?

Surprised you didn't get kicked out

I think we controlled the 2nd half right to the end, bar 1-2 lapses, for their goal and a Martial effort moments earlier. Its just our players were guilty of not putting away their chances.

I disagree that we have NO chance of fourth.

We do need to work on the spine of the team however, having 3 strikers injured doesn't help, especially when the one fit striker we do have is also the least able to join our play.

And Goal keeper is a glaring weakness.

Nah, I think it's gone. We need 8 points (9 considering our terrible goal difference) to catch Spurs in 4th place, and that's assuming the 4 teams between them and us don't catch up to or surpass them first. On paper, 9 points in 16 games is achievable, but in reality, it's hard to see where and how we can get the goals and clean sheets to accomplish that.

Our injury problems don't help at all of course, but I doubt they're going to go away miraculously in these last 16 league games. It's hard to see how we're going to be able to get Sturridge to play a dozen of those games - we need to win at least that number to have a shot. It's hard to see how players will suddenly wake up and stop doing the really maddening things they've been doing this season and last season. The correction and replacement process is going to take a while; false hope is just going to make it really hard to watch the rest of the season without a morphine injection.

We've been here before recently - this is shaping up like 2011/12 (Kenny's full season) all over again though this season could end worse because although we let in 40 goals back then, it was alarmingly, still the 3rd best defensive record in the league. We couldn't score that season, and ended up with 47 - 9 teams scored more than us, including Blackburn, who were relegated! Look up the table this season, and you'll see the same pattern forming, with Sunderland outscoring us this time. I think our defensive record is the 10th best / worst in the league right now.

Well, at least we got into two finals and took home a cup that season. Hopefully we'll have a tin pot to piss in at the end of this period. I'm resigned to just being excited about the cup games.

We need a shit hot attacker who can offer pace and goals. So same situation we were in 100M ago. Great.

Not playing the only goal threat we have to make room for hapless Lallana who has scored one in May... That's the definition of gutless. We didn't reach for it...

And I agree - our squad looks better than Uniteds!

This is not Just about us being a bad side. We look as jaded as we did during BR.

It was a lack of mental strength and effort to blame under Rodgers. He had to go. This time it's a lack of physical strength and fitness to cope with their workload. Klopp doesn't need to go, he just needs to chill the fuck out and take it easy.

We're 9th in the league. Currently sitting behind Stoke, West Ham, and Crystal Palace. And we're over halfway through the year.

I'm not overreacting to today. I'm stating the obvious.

Yes but I think folk have to take into account a new manager who hasn't had a pre season, a new style of play, and, a shit load of injuries.
Ings or Sturridge would have had a field day yesterday. It's not as bleak as some would have us believe. We were the better team yesterday. Against a team that are above us. Who had one shot on target all game and scored it. Wihtout the undoubted injury crisis we have, not to mention the fixture pile up, we would be further up the league. Easily.

Ings or Sturridge may have had a field day but that doesn't excuse the fact that we have systematically moulded the squad into one that fundamentally lacks goals, apart from one or two individuals. That takes some doing. The quality of the squad in terms of certain attributes has been eroded over time to the point that we're left with a general lack of experience and a lack of goals.

Fucking sick of being an unlucky loser, seems to be the story over and over again, oppo keeper has a blinder and we fail to convert our chances. Someone please tell the powers that be that Shane fucking Long will not change that. This season is a write off as far as the league is concerned, might as well save any meagre transfer kitty for the summer. I wish some bean counter somewhere in the club is monetising how much it has cost us not going the extra mile with Sanchez. £48 mil on worthless strikers and millions in not qualifying for the CL.

We were marginally the better (on the day) of two very ordinary sides. The fact that they remain above us suggests they are still the better / stronger side. We are miles away from where we need to be.

Is that fair ?

Where would city be without aguero?
Leicester without vardys goals ?

Liverpool with sturridges goals ?

It's not fair to say any team can adapt to life without their goal getter.

Mediocre team with no goalscorers and a shite goalkeeper in home defeat shocker!

Klopp is working with players he didn't buy, but he does select them. So far he's lost as many Premiership games as he has won. Anyone can do that, and so far he's done nothing to be overly excited about, despite me actually feeling more excited by him.

He selected the wrong team and lots of us feared the worst, because with Lucas, Can, Milner, Lallana, Henderson and Firmino all on the pitch together, you have a midfield and attack who have scored a total of 7 goals between them all fucking season. Seven. Lucas has scored about one in his entire career. Lallana has ZERO all season. Firmino has managed a total of three in 20 games - two of which came last week. That is startling enough, but when you ally that with a defence as porous as ours, it's no wonder we have an embarrassing minus GD.

We played well enough in the first half, and De Gea made one outstanding save, but we didn't create enough good chances, and we wasted lots of good positions with wild shooting, or poor passing. United improved after halftime - they could hardly be worse - and our laughable ineptitude at set-pieces cost us again. Nobody has conceded as many goals from corners as us. That lump Feillani easily out jumped the defence, Mignolet was lost again, and nobody was anywhere near Rooney who had plenty of time to smash it high into the goal from 6 yards. After that you couldn't see us scoring, even with the mysteriously delayed introduction of Benteke and Ibe, who both should have started.

Mignolet (5) Didn't have much to do, but almost visibly shits himself when crosses come into the box, and his kicking was predictably shite as usual.

Toure (6) There are times his lack of speed and mobility resort in a somewhat unorthodox style of defending, but he was typically whole-hearted. But the fact he's even playing in a game like this for Liverpool says it all.

Sakho (6) A huge, HUGE improvement from his recent displays. When partnered with the equally ragged Toure it's sometimes rather hard to watch, but he made several good clearances and great tackles Still some very silly and careless passing though.

Clyne (6) He was overloaded a couple of times on that side of the pitch, which meant he wasn't able to get forward as much as we needed in the second half, Martial kept him busy.

Moreno (6) Boundless energy and one of the few players we had on the pitch who has genuine pace, but wasted possession and good chances with some slack crossing and decision-making.

Lucas (6) Looked very comfortable and secure in the first half, as he had little to do, but he won the battle with Feillani in the middle. Got a little more flustered in the second as United actually started moving forward and running at him. Didn't really need to be on the pitch and was a mistake to play him with Milner, Can and Henderson all also playing, but he made one super chance with a clever pass to lallana, who obviously wasted it

Henderson (5) Lots of energy, but barndoor shooting and a few too many aimless hoiks up the pitch to nobody at all. Lacked real quality and couldn't dictate the game in any way, but that's never been a real asset of his anyway.

Can (6) Looked the best midfield player on the pitch at times, and also the worst. Forced a superlative stop from the outstanding De Gea. He still manages to look clumsy at times and he does make some strange choices, but he's been in a decent run of form and if he can improve his decision-making, passing and shooting we'll have a player.

Milner (5) He never gives less than a full shift of hard work, but he's not at his best played in this position and he had little attacking threat, bar one or two crosses. Ordinary.

Lallana (4) Another who works hard, without ever actually doing anything that might result in us scoring a goal. He's slow, weak and can't shoot. In fact, he's like that kid in the school playground who looks dead skilful juggling the tennis ball, doing Cruyff turns and 'megging you in the 20-a-side morning break matches, but actually on a pitch, with a proper sized ball and 11v11, is fucking useless. I don't like him at all, and his record for an attacking player is the worst in the ENTIRE division.

Firmino (6) Blah blah "false 9" blah blah. I hate that fucking bollocks. It's accurate in this case, though, because despite what Klopp says, Firmino is very clearly a false 9. i.e. not a striker. He has no pace and isn't a good enough finisher; he lacks the instincts of a goalscorer, and the presence. His touch is nice and he works hard, but he will never get you goals reliably and needs to play with an ACTUAL 9.

Aguero is injured half the time for City and they still do ok. Leicester have Mahrez who has scored 13 times this season. But I'd expect us to have greater options than Leicester.

I'm not saying any team can adapt to life without their star striker, but we've managed to engineer a situation where we are relying on our chronically unfit striker to be our source of goals. We've been unlucky when it comes to Danny Ings being injured, but we've signed midfielders who don't score, and strikers that either don't fit in the way we play or are too young to be relied on.

It's symptomatic of a ridiculously poorly thought out transfer 'policy' over the last 10 years at least.

Tbf i don't get how Klopp is getting flak for the team he selected yesterday. This team lacks goal.and has lacked goals for 21 matches. Our g.d is minus 3, and that won't improve by much so long as Ings, Origi & Studge are still out. And Shane Long isn't the answer either.

I think Klopp was right not to start Benteke. Firmino played really well against Arsenal and deserved to start yesterday. I thought he played ok yesterday too. I thought though, as the game wore on, he should've brought Benteke on a lot earlier. It would've given us a chance.

Yep, the line up was correct for the most part, Firmino was the right choice, and was pretty decent to be honest, the problem was two fold, De Gea is ridiculously good, and Lallana and Milner offer zero goal threat. Firmino doesn't score enough goals either (I think he'll get better in that regard if we keep playing him where he's playing), but the main issue for me is that the other two attacking players offer absolutely no end product, it's a problem throughout our squad, even Coutinho, our best player, offers the bare minimum in this regard.

I love all the clever little flicks, nutmegs and lightning-fast one-twos once we're ahead, but to keep doing it and failing when it's still nil-nil really does my head in. Milner making that wild volley when he had the time and space to bring the ball down and pass it to one of three teammates; another occasion when, again, a great long ball found Hendo only for him to try the same thing. Keep possession, find a player, pass to feet. It's not THAT hard. We seem incapable of remaining cool when we get in those positions.

I reckon it goes back to the lack not only of strength of character but also of intelligence which you're pinpointed before. Whatever their other strengths or weaknesses, we seem to have a squad overstocked with weak-minded individuals. There are bound to be a few who don't fit that description but we obviously don't have enough of those to pull the others' socks up for them.

The sickening thing is, United looked like a team from Division 2 yesterday, and we still couldn't find the net. We should be level with them, but instead we're 6 points behind them.

They seriously looked like a championship team with a world class goalkeeper, it's a travesty they got even a point yesterday.

In the two games we've played them this season they've had 4 shots on target and 4 goals.

This is a worrying stat:

United, Arsenal, West Ham, Watford, West Brom, Newcastle, Man City, Palace, Chelsea all scored on LFC with their first shot on-target.

The players seem mentally slow and we can't shoot. We make enough chances but we can't score. Not sure what else Klopp is meant to do. Maybe put an electric circuit in the kit and shock them every time they miss

Dropping Ibe to find space for Lucas in the line-up made it easier for us to dominate the midfield.
Sadly it also meant that we lost creativity and flair.
