He should have started with Benteke
Nah! He's not playing very well currently.
We dominated the match and had the better chances. Firmino deserved to start in that position after what he did against Arsenal.
Benteke starting as sub was the right call.
We tend to play less well as a unit when Benteke starts. There are games in which the likelihood is that we'll be involved in a physical battle and there's a case for starting him in those, but this wasn't one of them. I wouldn't have started Lucas - though it's only fair to add that he made my MOTM top three - and we should have used our subs earlier, but none of that would have mattered but for (a) de Gea and (b) our lack of goalscoring threat.

I can agree with that. I would have bought Benteke on earlier too.
Would have Benteke made any real difference though. No idea.
Currently he's not a reliable goalscorer or someone you can rely on to bully centre halves. Or someone you can rely on to get in the match.
He is our top goal scorer, and in the past for villa he has been unplayable against Utd. .
Looked at the goal again, and Lucas is culpable for why Rooney was free. Don't know why he felt the need to get involved in the aerial challenge when Henderson (Fellaini's man on their corners all day), Toure and Sakho were already going in for it. Rooney was his assignment, and he left Rooney alone to go in. After that he just stepped and leaned back and admired the shaking crossbar while Rooney got the rebound and smashed home.

Even last year's Gerrard is an upgrade attacking wise on what we have from midfield at the moment.
How many goals have Milner,Henderson,Can and Lucas have from open play?
I can't remember any.
It's a massive problem.
Tex would add a bit of guile at least anyway.
Henderson was just lobbing the ball up top and Milner was crossing to nobody.
We'd have won if Sturridge played but that's a whole different issue.
There is not much to discuss...
It is evident Klopp does not trust more than a handful of players in our squad.
He has consistently picked a similar sort of playing eleven and has found that he has no options off the bench.
We are saddled with this and it will take at least two transfer windows to address the damage done....

It didn't help on their goal that Ibe was too fucking Dozy/Lazy to get over to their players and even attempt to block the cross. Mata had all the time in the world to put the cross in.
So? He's been far from unplayable for us. And that's what matters. Not what he did last year for Villa.

Benteke's last match was in the FA cup, where he was given the worst ratings of all our players. Firmino just played his best match since Man C against Arsenal, scoring 2 goals and with the team playing well.
Do you logically think Benteke should start?
The last min attack where he was given offside is just what he is. Loitering behind all the United players doing nothing. The ball did drop to him, and he was doing his best chicken dance impression trying to control the ball. He didn't manage to control it even. Nothing would have come of it even if he wasn't offside.
Our lack of goal threat means there will be many more games like this. One or two mistakes per game and we're at the mercy of teams with a decent striker. We are well motivated and hard working but lack quality up front. We really shouldn't be defined by a negative goal difference.
