Absolutely Mark.

I'm not being melodramatic when I say that Origi was literally one of the very worst players I think i've seen in a Liverpool shirt (i get the "young.... early days....foreign country...get used to the league... give him a chance to settle...." yadda yadda) but it is what it is. He was like a poor mans David NGog without the goal threat (!) in his appearances to date. But last night he was superb. I feel like ive got something to cling onto now through the inevitable ebbs and flows of his development.... we now know that there is definitely a premier league player in there, and its just a case of whether we can develop it into something consistent longer term

Spot on mate, I think we saw with Ibe and Sterling though, how a young player can suddenly go to shit and look totally lacking in any confidence, to a degree that he looks like he's hit a dead end with absolutely no hope. I'm hoping that was the case with Origi and that we can put it down to the dreadful season he and his team had in France last year. Fingers crossed anyway.

That's why he can't get over the Fucking loss against Crystal Palace

It happens though. That's why it's one of the most competitive leagues, because you just can't go into a single game without being fully committed. Everyone has their off days, and every lesser side has their day in The Lying Rag. Crucially our form dictates that Palace is looking like a mere blip, but an important reminder that we've still some way to go.

I did it in my head, 12s for europa and fa and evens for carling.

So 10 returns 130 * 12 * 2 = 2920. I think

I still think there's an underlying worry about whether in the long term we can justify having Benteke as an option, as brilliant as that seems at the moment, you have to look at how we're set in most games and when we've been our most productive. Usually with three quick, interchanging attackers.

Before someone jumps on my case, I'm not labeling Benteke "slow", but he's slightly more laborious than Sturridge, Origi, Ibe, Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino in terms of movement. He's not the static target that Michael Owen makes him out to be either, but he's somewhere in between and I think crucially, if everyone remains fit, that would be a deciding factor in how instrumental he is to our success.

As a goalscorer, when you give him service inside the box, he's a second to only Sturridge in the squad and not many others in the entire league, but I think there are signs that he's little more of a disjointed fit, compared to a few others in attack. But like I say, he has attributes they don't have too.

I understand the concerns but to me they are premature at best. As Liverpool fans we are used to having one star striker and then other in more supporting role. As this thread highlights people are already questioning for the futures of Benteke and Ings because Sturridge has came back and scored a couple of goals. That isn't normal. Not at a club which have our ambitions. We're not used to having two very good strikers and therefore a weird trend has developed on here that one should go. Frankly I think that's bollocks. For one, we haven't seen Sturridge and Benteke in the same side. That could be interesting. Secondly should we wish to compete in both the Champions League we're going to need more than one decent striker. Thirdly we cannot rely upon Sturridge at all. Fourthly, regardless of alround play, Benteke get goals and important ones, too, which can come out of nowhere. That's equally, if not more important, than his fit or allround play. Let's not overcomplicate the issue.

Instead of fearing or questioning the future of good players we should be blessed to have them. Klopp will never label this a problem. From a striking point of view he is blessed.

Ok it's a pretty nice time to give an interview but that has to be the most refreshing manager interview I've ever seen... Not tetchy yet managed to tell one reporter to mind stupid questions re Sturridge ... Positive about his team and with considerable charm and humour...

He is like an anti-Mourinho.

Gave good copy to the press and totally avoided being a cunt while doing so...

Fucking brilliant stuff.

Nobody's advocating selling Benteke in the near or medium future; I think Mark's point was that if and when everyone is fit (and as we know, it's a big if), would you choose someone like Benteke to lead the line or a system with "fast interchanging strikers"? Most of us will probably agree that we generally look and perform better with a more fluid set-up, but nothing is for certain at this point. For what it's worth, Klopp seems to be a fan of Benteke too.

I'm pretty certain Benteke will get the start vs Newcastle – Klopp will give him a chance to respond to Origi-Sturridge goal show.

And when we have Ings back, with his tenacious aggressive style... And Firmino vying for a place with Coutinho ....

What we may well be looking at is a bunch of players trying very fucking hard to be better so as to try and get into the team...

Proper old school Liverpool way.

Fucking brilliant.

there's an incredible amount of talent in this team: really when you consider who was not playing last night

Wonder how Gerrard felt looking on: am sure he wanted to be involved still.

Well he can't.

I think he once said about Carra, "he isn't quite at the right standard".

Brad Smith has a surprising burst of pace from a standing start. And plays with no fear at all. I really think we might a player here.

Whilst pace alone, whilst a desirable attribute, is never enough by itself, he seemed to have a lot about him in terms of control, coolness and that was a perfect left footed cross. It really makes you wonder why he could only get a single start for Aberdeen during his aborted loan spell.
