Some tasty tackles going in early doors too - Klopp has these guys thinking they aren't going to get bullied outed the game - which was a problem under Rodgers.

Much more organised.

Great fun to watch again.

Wow, did I hear it right? Klopp said he "shouted" at the players at half-time particularly on how they played for the conceded goal. "About 25 faults in this goal" according to Klopp.

Is Klopp talking about Origi at the end? I wasn't sure.

Hah... what a game to miss. Think it's the first of the season I didn't catch at least a piece of.
Great result.

What a superb interview. I love the fact he didn't gloss over the mistakes and really spoke about the fact they happen too often.

He's a perfectionist!

Yes he was talking about Origi.

I loved his response about Studge too. Quality.

Great performance all round really after a shaky 15 minutes.

Allen, Can and Lucas absolutely BOSSED the midfield, I thought Joe Allen was excellent. And what a pass from Can for Studge's second.

What do we think seeing Origi last night? He started off his usual, tentative self and then bang! Great finish and he suddenly wants the ball, is full of great hold up play, skill and trickery and he wants to score goals. Brilliant from the young lad.

You'd have to agree that the important and most difficult goals were scored by Sturridge. Considering that they came at a point during the game where Southampton still looked a bit dangerous.
After that 3rd goal it was pretty much open season. Nevertheless, great performance by Origi and those goals will do him some good.

I was waiting all season for Origi to start playing with confidence and swag that I saw in his performances for Belgium. Hopefully he will build on this and we will see the real Origi from now on. I must admit even I was getting worried... But it's clear, especially after that post-match interview, that Klopp is a big believer and he was patiently working on Origi's game through the lean period – now this work is starting to bear fruit.

If I was Benteke, I would be thinking "oh shit, I need to make a strong statement next time I play or I'm in trouble" after this performance by both Sturridge and Origi. In some way Origi's game is a much more natural fit for Klopp than Benteke's, his work-rate is second only to Ings among our forwards and if he starts scoring regularly, I'm sure he will play regularly too.

Too soon to tell but if this continues, Ings will be the one having to worry.

I still think there's an underlying worry about whether in the long term we can justify having Benteke as an option, as brilliant as that seems at the moment, you have to look at how we're set in most games and when we've been our most productive. Usually with three quick, interchanging attackers.

Before someone jumps on my case, I'm not labeling Benteke "slow", but he's slightly more laborious than Sturridge, Origi, Ibe, Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino in terms of movement. He's not the static target that Michael Owen makes him out to be either, but he's somewhere in between and I think crucially, if everyone remains fit, that would be a deciding factor in how instrumental he is to our success.

As a goalscorer, when you give him service inside the box, he's a second to only Sturridge in the squad and not many others in the entire league, but I think there are signs that he's little more of a disjointed fit, compared to a few others in attack. But like I say, he has attributes they don't have too.

Win-win for us. If he adapts and shines then we have a real good option on hand. If he doesn't we can still sell him for a high price because strikers like him will always be in demand. He's still entering his peak too.

Basically, Benteke isn't as versitile as Sturridge, Firmino, Origi and to a lesser extent Ings.
They can operate in a wing forward role as well, Benteke can't.
He's a one dimensional player who is exceptionally good at what he does. To get him to conform to the way the rest of the attackers play is going to be difficult.
Hence why we look so fluid in attack when he's not playing.

I think our players are over performing - they are not as good as we saw them tonight. They are shit - all of them. Just got lucky by scoring - shame it is not the PL. But we shall see - if they can score 10 past Newcastle this weekend.
No, our squad has been under achieving for a very long time, it's bursting with very good players.

I definitely see what you mean and 32 million is a lot for an option, but it's paid now and given Sturridge's love of getting injured, we need another out and out striker. He also gives us a different option and I don't think we've necessarily played just one style so far under Klopp. It's not like somebody is going to give us a boatload of cash for him and I doubt his wages are astronomical. It's a squad game these days and I'm sure we'll be taking every competition seriously so even if he doesn't start every game, I'm sure he'll play a lot.

Nobody's advocating selling Benteke in the near or medium future; I think Mark's point was that if and when everyone is fit (and as we know, it's a big if), would you choose someone like Benteke to lead the line or a system with "fast interchanging strikers"? Most of us will probably agree that we generally look and perform better with a more fluid set-up, but nothing is for certain at this point. For what it's worth, Klopp seems to be a fan of Benteke too.

I'm pretty certain Benteke will get the start vs Newcastle – Klopp will give him a chance to respond to Origi-Sturridge goal show.

Absolutely Mark.

I'm not being melodramatic when I say that Origi was literally one of the very worst players I think i've seen in a Liverpool shirt (i get the "young.... early days....foreign country...get used to the league... give him a chance to settle...." yadda yadda) but it is what it is. He was like a poor mans David NGog without the goal threat (!) in his appearances to date. But last night he was superb. I feel like ive got something to cling onto now through the inevitable ebbs and flows of his development.... we now know that there is definitely a premier league player in there, and its just a case of whether we can develop it into something consistent longer term

Hes right, it was a very sloppy start we could have been 2 or 3 down in the first 20 minutes
