No chance of Mascherano staying

I agree we don't need Hleb and the impression I have of him is that he is a player who likes to operate "in the hole" rather than a natural wing player. I also have the impression from his Arsenal years that although skilful, he is lightweight and easily dispossessed by defenders.

I can't remember how many seasons Hleb played for Arsenal but you could hardly claim he was a key player for them. He didn't seem to have the physical strength that players need to survive in the Premier League. I just can't see what we would do with him if he came to Anfield.

Better option than babel i'd say, more of natural winger

Crouchy is on his way back is also the rumours doing the rounds..

it all fits.. Hleb, Cole, Johnson & Maxi would be able to play to Crouch's strengths
[/quote]

SO Liverpools play will adapt to Crouchs strength... That would be the day that Football died!!

...and this would make him ineligible to play CL-football?

No if he is an unused substitute

However If he plays it would make him ineligible regardless of whatever European Competition he is playing in

He can however play in January for a differant club. Under UEFA rules, as long as he is the only transfer the team have made from a club where the player has played in a European Competition.

Cos the alcohol has reduced my giggle-factor down to that of a 16 year old, I have a suspicion it's not funny but it made me laugh.

Liverpool want Rafa Benitez to put up or shut up in the fight for Javier Mascherano.

The former Anfield boss has angered his old club by continuing to make noises about signing the Argentina captain since taking over at Inter Milan this summer.

But the European champions have failed to back up their words with a bid.

And as Mascherano’s frustration with life at Anfield grows, there is a feeling inside the corridors of power at Liverpool that Benitez is playing a waiting game in a ploy to land Mascherano on the cheap.

A Liverpool insider said: “We know how Rafa works and, for all Mascherano’s talk about leaving, there has been no bid from any club for him.

“We think Rafa is biding his time because he thinks we will accept a lower price closer to the transfer window. He’s wrong about that.â€

Inter have money to spend after selling Mario Balotelli to Manchester City for £24million. Any bid over £20m will be enough to land Mascherano, who has refused to sign a new contract with his current deal having less than two years to run.

Barcelona have also entered the race for the 26-year-old, with Pep Guardiola determined to land another defensive midfielder despite pressure to enter the fight for Werder Bremen playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Barca superstar Lionel Messi has been urging the Catalans to move for his Argentine team-mate, but the Spanish champions would be wasting their time if they lodged a proposed bid of £12m.

He was fantastic today. We'll miss him.

I still hope he'll be around come September. I understand his desires to leave but I so desperately want him to stay.

at least now we know mash will give 100% if he stays after todays display

To his credit, I don't think this was ever in doubt.

I thought he was brilliant in the second half and fairly ordinary in the first.

He's staying at Liverpool!

unless rafa parts with every penny he has just recieved from city. don't bank that check rafa just forward it straight to anfield

Inter will come in at the last minute to try and screw us. If that's the case we should make him stay because there wouldn't be time to bring in re-inforcements!

Hats off to macher amazing effort and used the ball better going forward

AN ASSIST as well

Maybe having stevie next to him drove him forward. Poulsen has a lot to replace on that performance today

poulsen and mascher don't really belong in the same sentence (prove me wrong poulsen!)

So I'm the only one who thought he looked rather dodgy in the first half?

Far off the pace and several mistimed challenges? Maybe I'm just disappointed with him leaving but I'm not falling on my arse over his performance today.

Good assist but let's not kid ourselves that goal was mostly down to Ngog's splendid finishing.
