No chance of Mascherano staying

I like Hleb. Two footed, skilful, good pace. Gets a healthy amount of assists, but doesn't score that many. A good footballer which means he's twice as good as Babel is now.

Babel out.. Hleb in..

Mascher out.. Poulsen in..

Insua out.. Anyone with a left foot and can run in..

N'Gog benched.. Top CF in..

We'll have done well. 3 out of 4.

The top CF is Crouchy (read my last post)

I'm not convinced Hleb was out muscled during his time in England. He's fairly tall and strong for a creative player.

My issue is his contribution to assists and goals. He's amazing at build up play, but given his talent, his stats should be a lot better.

He's quicker, smarter and more creative than Riera, but defensively he will not work as hard.

I think we're looking to play Dirk as back up striker and have Hleb competing with Maxi with the RW spot.

I haven't seen him for a while but I do rate Hleb.

Not sure if the replacements currently Roy is signing are better that the players going out, I do realise we are short of money and replacements are not always available but we always seemed to fcking stiffed by the buyers and now some of the replacements Roy is buying are at best Fulham standard. We can't just buy for the sake of buying. Not a fan of Babel but what is the point of selling just because there is an offer, only sell if there is a better option available.
I hope Roy realises we maybe short of money but we are still Liverpool FC.

Roy Hodgson today confirmed he does not anticipate any imminent move away from Anfield for Javier Mascherano and admitted the midfielder is in contention to face Arsenal on Sunday.

The boss last month revealed Mascherano had expressed a desire to leave Liverpool - but Hodgson insists no offers have been received for the midfielder and stressed new signing Christian Poulsen hasn't been brought to the club as a replacement for the Argentina captain.

Hodgson told a press conference at Melwood: "I don't want to let Javier Mascherano go. At the moment, Javier Mascherano has shown no signs of going, so it's not a question of replacing him.

"I believe Javier is going to play for us and I believe Christian is going to play for us. I am happy to have both players.

"This is a big club, a club with hopefully a lot of games to play this year and we're going to need a lot of players.

"We didn't bring Christian in to replace anybody. We brought him in to improve the size and quality of our squad."

Asked whether he felt Mascherano was in the right frame of mind to face Arsenal, Hodgson said: "Yes."

He added: "There is no point in me commenting on things Javier has either said or supposedly said.

"I work with him whenever I can. Obviously he came back very late from the World Cup and has been away on international duty, but I've had seven or eight training sessions with him now.

"We talk about football and he's made no indication (of wanting to leave) since our very early meeting, where he made it clear if possible he'd prefer to leave. Since then he's been getting on with his work and training and playing properly.

"As far as I am concerned, he is a Liverpool player and will be until the day somebody signs him - that day does not seem to be imminent.

"At the moment I can quite categorically state there has been no offer from any club for Javier Mascherano and, as a result, I don't see why I should - every day - put his loyalty or desire to play for the club in doubt.

"We made it clear to him that if the offer he wanted came along, we probably would not stand in his way. But that offer has not come along and he's working hard to play for Liverpool."

Reporters quizzed Hodgson on the reception Mascherano could receive from Liverpool fans should he feature against Arsenal.

"I think the fans will judge him by what he does on the field of play," said the manager. "If he plays well, does his job and is part of a winning Liverpool team then he'll be very popular.

"If he plays badly and costs us games then no doubt he won't be too popular at all. I don't think it is much more complicated than that."

Hodgson continued: "He is a realistic player and is playing at Liverpool Football Club. He is not looking for a move to a Spanish second division club. There are very few clubs in the world that could even consider having Mascherano on their books - but one of them is Liverpool Football Club.

"If he wants to leave Liverpool, he'll be expecting a club of similar stature and ability to come along. At the moment, that club hasn't come along so I am presuming he's very happy to stay here, but you'd have to ask him."

Meanwhile, Hodgson admitted most of his remaining transfer activity could involve players leaving.

He said: "The bulk of the work has been done. The major changes will be players needing to leave because of the new 25-man rule. We've got too many players who, if they don't make the 17 foreign-man allowance, are not going to want to play in the reserve team for the rest of the season."

Asked if he was trying to bring Stephen Warnock back to provide reinforcements at left-back, Hodgson said: "No."

So only players to leave and no one to come in.
I hope he means unless Mash leaves.
No new striker or left back for us so.
Unless it is all an elaborate ploy!

3. Aurelio
4. Agger
5. Skrtel
6. Kyrgiakos
7. Mascherano (Could be sold)
8. Lucas
9. Poulsen
10. Aquilani
11. Jovanovic
12. Babel
13. Kuyt
14. Rodriguez
15. Torres
Ngog ( Doesn't have to be registered U21)
Wilson ( Doesn't have to be registered U21, HG rule only applies to English FA and Welsh FA)
2 slots available

I think we're set. Missing anyone?
As it stands we have to sell a foreigner to buy a foreigner.
Players like: Nemeth and Plessis are under 21 and don't have to be registered, but I think they'll be sold.

we've got 17 foreigners inc. Plessis and Itandje who won't be included obv.

Is Spearing over 21? If so he'd replace Shelvey or whoever.

If Masch stays and we sign a decent left-back and a decent back-up striker. (e.g. Figueroa/Cole), we'll have a belter of a season.

What do you mean?

well you said we had 15 foreigners, and those two weren't included and therefore we'd obviously try to sell them, but excluding those we wouldn't have to sell an non-HG player to get one in, we have room for two.

Right. I was wrong in claiming that we have to sell a foreigner to buy a foreigner.
Found out while I was writing the post that foreign U21 player don't have to be registered.
But you wrote:

Why should Shelvey or whoever be replaced? It doesn't matter if Spearing's over 21.

I mean we've got exactly 8 HG players. Not counting the Amoos and Irwins.

What is your obsession with 'pace'? Your idea of pace often differs to other's on here. I'm a sucker for pace myself but Helb isn't slow. Not by any means. He can ghost pass players when he want's to.

But Shelvey is just a young kid? All the registered have to be over 21? We can field 11 youngsters who isnt registered if we want too?

To be fair, for once he's right over pace, Hleb is as slow as.

Because Shelvey is 17 and thus doesnt have to be registered. Therefore Spearing should take his place in that logically.

Maybe, but he's quicker in the head than Babel could ever be, and that must count for something.
