No chance of Mascherano staying

I love all the "he's his wife's bitch" in all of this.

Actually, perhaps he loves his wife and wants to be happy with her. His marriage can last a lot longer than his football career. I speak from bitter experience, if he wants to be happy in his personal life then he has to make some tough decisions.

I'd love the man to stay, but it won't happen. We should wish him well and let him leave, for the right price.

I agree. He is treating his wife with respect and taking account of her wishes. He is not treating her like a Page 3 trollop.

Mascherano's never given less than 100% for us and I wish him well too.

I wish him well too, but IF he's going, just hurry up and get shut, we need to make purchases now, not in January, and thats whats going to happen if its at the end of the window!

The only issue I have is his public drooling over the prospect of playing for other clubs whilst still a Liverpool player.

his wife could move to london. or she could get a prescription for some anti-depressants
Moving to London wouldn't do her any good as she still doesn't speak English.

Of course they don't speak Spanish in Milan either, but I suppose Italy does have more of a Latin atmosphere and the weather is better.
there's plenty of latin people and places in london. and its easier to cope with being a loner in london

😱

Mascherano always give 100% and is a great player. We will miss him when he goes. His agent has been whoring him around and there are takers unwilling to meet our evaluation. That's a problem for us.

Barca wanted to pay +€42M for Cesc but are offering us €9.5M + Hleb. That's even worse than Inter's derisory offer. £20M + Bojan/Santon and we can do a deal. Barca and Inter want to wait until the last minute when we have no leverage to do a deal.

We don't need any more midfielders now. We desperately need a competent striker to back up Torres.

This is annoying too. I blame Benitez!

I'm with Zlatan to an extent here. The fact is that all this summer and much of last summer we kept hearing how much he wanted to play for other clubs, none of this stuff about it being the country and so on.

Now with a few days before the start of the season there hasn't even been a bid for him as far as we know. It's looking increasingly likely with every passing day that the club may decide not to be bullied into a low price and may make him stay for another year.

And now, when he's in that situation, he decides to tell us all that he really loves the club and that it's just the country he doesn't like. He wasn't saying that when he was, as Sheik put it, 'drooling over the prospect of playing for other clubs' or when he was telling us all before the world cup that he was learning fucking italian.

I'm not saying his wife isn't unhappy and that he doesn't have a legitimate reason for looking for a move but this particular statement was made right now for a cynical reason.

basically when a player gets to the two year mark they should be told 'sign up or be sold', simple as that. we've been burned not once but TWICE in that regard of losing top players for nothing or next to nothing, so I get don't get the attitude of keeping him for another year and selling him next season. get rid now, get the maximum for him and plug some of the obvious holes in the squad.

The most obvious gap being the great player you just sold with 2 years left on his contract.
so great players should be allowed to run down their contracts? deal with the consequences in the final year?

And it was Masher who said last season that he didn't want to talk to the club about a contract because he wasn't interested in the money. Which for the record, I believe, I don't think he wanted to screw anyone over, I think he just knew he'd be going. But had we had the chance I'm sure we'd have sorted his future along with everyone elses.

I don't believe it, gene. Check out the preamble to Masher's words in the first post above. He said those earlier things when Inter looked likely buyers because he badly wanted that deal to go through so he could play for Rafa again, which is understandable from his standpoint. This time he was replying to specific suggestions that he had a problem with the club.

Sorry Jules, I know a lot of you love Mascherano but I feel you're assuming, in a rather traditional British style, that his on-field work ethic indicates some underlying honesty or nobility. You all keep looking for a way to explain away his behavior because you're looking for an explanation that's consistent with your image of Mascherano. Here are some simple facts: Mascherano has spoken several times directly or through his representatives about his desire to play for other teams. At no point in all this has he sought to explain things to the fans. Now, just days before he may have to run out in front of the Anfield crowd, he suddenly wants to make clear that he loves the fans and the club and he just wants a change of lifestyle.

Do me a favour...

I'm a self-confessed fan of the little monster, gene, but I'm afraid I'm not having that. If it were true he'd hardly take care to emphasise, in the very same interview, that he still wants away.

I don't really know if he was hedging for the event of not getting a transfer. But, this interview makes me think, that if he were to stay, he would give 100% like he always does. I'm happy with that.

If he goes, we have an insurance. We can take the money and spend it in other areas that are in dire need of attention.

If he stays, there is hope he will play well and that is certainly good for us.

So i don't really care what his intentions were when he said those things.

His family didn't feel settled in Liverpool, the wife doesn't like it, he stuck it out for a year, and he'll try to do the best for his family somewhere else now. That doesn't make him pussy whipped, it makes him, despite all visual evidence, not a cave man.

You'd probably be able to grasp that, had you been in a significant relationship at some point in your life.

Ignoring the fact that he should want his family to be happy, show me a man who can ignore the wishes of his wife for over a year, make her totally miserable, and not buckle under the consequences.
If i was married and my wife was making the kind of money he was, i would learn to deal with it
You aren't married, but your enlightened views should find you a fantastic mate shortly. I'd go with a somewhat softer club so you don't damage the bitch's face too much.

I'm not really sure I care enough about this to take sides, however I do believe that Masher loves/ loved playing for Liverpool, but has wanted to be elsewhere for at least one year

I'm not really arsed what he does or doesn't say now, or what his motives are.

It's not worth getting all het up about, it would just be nice to get this over with and pocket 20-25m, from whichever club he joins. I couldn't give a fuck which, really

as mentioned by others if we dont end up with a super offer (25m+) I would be content to not sell him and see him leave on a free - I think he is the type of player who would still give 100% when unhappy (like last year), plus his retention could be the different between a automatic cl qualifying spot and nothing which in itself is worth 25m+.

Mascherano sold!!

Mascherano already has all agreed with the Barcelona to be incorporated and thus to comply an old dream. Already there was agreement between the clubs and would bring itself to light in brief.

Time ago that Javier Mascherano says that wants to change of air and that one of its maximum aspirations is to be able to play in the Barcelona. And it seems that is going to give because its representative already met with the people of the Catalonian club and they would have arrived at an agreement so that be incorporated in the next days.

The agreement among clubs was not simple and was loosened when the Liverpool accepted to Hleb as splits of payment besides 15.000.000 of euro to put on file the captain of the Selection. Piggy bank gave the ok a while ago in Barcelona, after the meeting that was carried out in the installations of the club.

Javier, thus, will be one of the most important acquisitions for the Catalonians, that had been seen something relegated in the market with the incorporations that had done the Real Madrid with the arrival of Mourinho. Obvious, that to close all, also they consulted to Lionel Messi, who obviously gave the ok so that Mascherano be the new jewel of the Catalonians. ...
