No Can do

You mean the foul he made in the last minute when all our other player shit their pants and backed off. Lucas had to make that foul because our other players as I said backed off. No one attacked the Dortmund player, no one. One of our players had a chance to make a foul a couple of seconds earlier but didn't want to risk a booking. The Dortmund player at full speed had a clear run into our box but Lucas stopped him.

Lucas is our best team player. He won't care if he is booked and miss a key game because of it. The team will always come first.

Sometimes you must make a foul. This time Lucas had to do it.

You simply ignore time after time after time why Lucas make the fouls. Time after time he must make them because all our other midfielders are shit tacklers. Can is a very good player but the physical bit isn't one of his strenghts. The reason to why we have problems against physical teams..........I think you have figuered it out now.

Stewart isn't a fantastic players but at least he make tackles instead of backing off.

Even when Lucas make fantastic plays as the tackle he made and stopped the attack he get blamed. That tackle most probably saved a goal. That tackle probably won us the game.

@manwithnoname, I told you you were wrong about Lucas and that last ditch 'yellow for the team' that 'probably won us the game'.
You should apologize for deriding him.

Josemi.

You're right Arn. Lucas showed his incredible defensive skills there.

Yes he did, or you could also say that he showed his fantastic game intelligence. He saw what was about to happen. Maybe you wanted the Dortmund player to get a free run into our box at full speed? What would have happened then?

I would have taken the free kick outside the box thank you. You clearly wanted a very dangerous situation inside our box instead.

I think Arn has a point. Before Aubameyang scored we had a chance to stop the counter if someone fouled the Dortmund mid. Same actually goes for Mikhis goal.

in the fifth and eighth minute? Not sure it was possible but if fouling (and getting yellows) is the answer then I'm not the audience

They don't understand a basic thing like that.

A lot of you want us to sign a physical defensive midfielder. Guess what a part of his job is? It is to break up play and make fouls, stop counter attacks. Making fouls is a part of the job for a defensive midfielder. To stop the attacks before they enter our box. Lucas is doing that for us.

You will never find a defensive midfielder that don't make fouls close to his own box. Almost everyone of them will make fouls a few yards outside the box every game. An excellent defensive midfielder make the fouls outside the box and not inside it. That is the main difference between an excellent DM and a shit one. The excellent DM know when he must make a foul.

How many penalties have Lucas given away? I don't think he has given away even five in his whole career with us. It is ok making fouls outside the box but not inside it. It is very difficult to score from a freekick even a few yards outside the box.

Yes - that was near the half way line, i.e. not putting us in a very dangerous free kick situation ...

This is the actual play ... You can tell, all our CMs have been caught up the field and are bloody out of position (Lucas included). Schemlzer (I think that's him) is ctually being pressured by Studge)

This is where Arn's blindness is evident (surprised you're taking this stance) - Clyne is covering Aubamayeng (sp) while Lovren was stepping up ... Also, 8 Liverpool players are back there vs 4 Dortmund players (& 1 trailing) ...

Look at Lovren's position when Lucas fouls him (after it SEEMS he's passed the ball poorly) ... The defense is in the right position here to make him make a bloody difficult play to create an opportunity. Lucas' foul was rash & stupid, and gave them an opportunity to win the game.

You would think so LTW, but every time Lovren stepped forward during that game, they played the ball over him or through him to a player played onside by Sakho. Evidently that was about to happen again.
Now I'm not saying that Lucas knew this. He's bright not that bright though. But alas they didn't score.

No it wasn't. All the Dortmund player had to do was to one get one more touch on the ball, a pass to Aubameyang, a very easy pass. The result would have been a one on one with Mignolet. What you miss is the gap between Lovren and Sakho.

Clyne isn't covering Aubameyang at all. He is on the wrong side of him.

watch the play again ... I watched it a few times ... he was heading to the left - he had made the pass (lost the ball - whatever) BEFORE Lucas touches him. He was a) out of position and b) put them us in an even more dangerous situation ... We got lucky thankfully ... but it was still a stupid, rash foul that he wouldn't be making if he was the player he was before the injuries ...

What are we arguing about?
It was stupid, it was rash, but it worked out in the end.
Like I said, I wish someone had decided to be rash and stupid before 0-1 and 0-2.

You are just being stubborn because you love Lucas above Liverpool - I get it.
I will try to be rational with you nonetheless.

8 liverpool players back vs 4 Dortmund players.
Their LB - who's not scored this year and has 4 assists over 36 games - is breaking but is pressurized by Studge ...
He breaks (be it a bad pass, or he's lost the ball) to the LEFT and Lucas fouls him AFTER the ball has left his foot. The ball is already on the WRONG side of Aubameyang AND Lovren is close to him (not 'shit scared' as you tried to present).
The ball was moving AWAY from the danger zone.
Lucs made a stupid tackle - it HAPPENS. It's ok to admit he's human.

Can should have been rash at 1-0 on Reus ... Everyone - I think - agrees there. There's a BIG difference in being rash near the half way line and taking a yellow, and in the 91st minute giving a team a free kick right near our box ...
But you said it was stupid and rash, so we both agree (and I hope you enjoyed your post-game activities! 🙂 )

Oh I sure did

You do know that it is allowed to pass the ball to the right? A four, five yard pass to the right would have given Aubameyang a one on one with Mignolet. The Dortmund player is moving away from the danger zone but he would never have tried to score himself, not a chance. He would have tried to pass it to Aubameyang and he would have had a lot of space because of the gap between Lovren and Sakho and because Clyne is on the wrong side of Aubameyang. A very easy pass.

The ball was moving to the left already dude ... watch it again. That is the foul below

He's 'moving away from the danger zone' - excellent. Glad you finally admitted that.
He would have had a bloody hard pass to make because - if you watch the play again - you'd see his touch was even worse than Milner's on his game winning cross ... It wouldn't have been a 'very easy pass' - but again, you're trying to vindicate a stupid, rash foul because you struggle to criticize Lucas due how much venom he gets from his detractors. I get it.

As for Lucas' foul for their free kick right at the end, if that went in I'd have went on and lamped him. It was fucking needless.

I've usually a lot of time for Lucas but you can't defend that shit.

But Lucas does that all the time! If an opponent gets past him, he sticks his leg out and trips him up, which is obvious to the referee. This is not the mark of a good defender.

In my opinion a good defender rarely has to foul. If you take the example of Sami Hyypia, he went for entire seasons without a single yellow card.

I think Lucas will be okay against Villarreal if they're still playing the same way as they did last season in a few games I watched. They can be pacy on the counter, but otherwise, they don't play as fast-paced as Dortmund, or are as nimble and mobile in midfield, which suits Lucas. Just remember to pull him after 85 minutes at Anfield if a free kick can kill the tie.

What you totally ignore is that it is because of the foul that the Dortmund player get a bad touch on the ball. If he hadn't been fouled then the pass would have been very easy.

But it is easier to blame Lucas. If he hadn't been fouled then all he had to do was to pass the ball four, five yards to the right, it wouldn't even had to be close to Aubameyang.

Clyne was on the wrong side of Aubameyang.

You are literally redefining the laws of physics to assist Lucas.
