We need to buy Höwedes and Ter Stegen. I hope Lucas and Allen both recapture their form and we won't need to sign a DM.

As far as attack goes, I agree with KHL that we need to buy Eriksen and secure a first refusal on Fischer.
 
Heh... the prerequisite for us this time should be that they are towering and commanding. I know that's probably what we tried to go for with Coates, but anyway.

If we gave him a chance, we may know what we have ... We barely play him ... I can't believe we didn't loan him out to Harry or WBA ...
 
Howedes is pretty great in the air. Second only to Mertesacker in the German national team IMO (but much more mobile). What I also like about him is that he can play very competently as a right-back and I think we really need a defensively-oriented fullback for some games. He can be what Ivanovic is for Chelsea and Ramos for Real - shuffling between right-footed CB position and RB as needed and giving us a lot more solid defensive options. Howedes is the only available player I can think of who has the talent and experience to fill this need for us instantly - so we really need to go all out to secure his signature as early as possible.
 
I hope we get a Hyypia-Henchoz like partnership this summer. Someone ask Houllier for tips.
 
Surely there must be a young Italian CB somewhere? They've not produced many since chiellini
 
I heard positive things about angelo ogbonna last year, but I've no clue how he's getting on.
 
If you ask me we should be promoting Martin Kelly into CB when he comes back... give him a few games there.

Obviously Andre Wisdom could also do a job there in a few years....

I'd say Kelly and Wisdom our CB pairing for the future, but before that get Kelly learning from Carra all the organisational side etc.

As for fullbacks, maybe McLaughlin could make the step up next year (being honest I haven't seen much of him, but he's very highly rated on here) and maybe Kelly will be back. They are not as pressing as a DM or a dominating CB.

I don't know about that.

But being a good header isn't all about being tall, is it? It's also about having good upper body strength and being a good leaper and having aggression. Cases in point being Coates and Agger. Both tall, but not very good in the air, and for different reasons that too.

Quite. Which was my point aswell. Vidic and Howedes arent the tallest cbs, both 6"2 but very good in the air due to balance, jumping, timing and upper body strength.

I think Keni asked how tall he was when I reffered to Vidic.
