To release Jonas and Taylor like that? Too long tenured players ... I wish they'd just get relegated already - crap club, crap owner, etc

Is that the telephone call thing?

I'd assume they knew they were on their way when their contracts weren't renegotiated

Yepp, surely it was just a courtesy call to wrap up the obvious

They were already aware but it was definitely done a bit tactless, especially in the case of Jonas. Then again they are paid tens of thousands of pounds a week and can now sign a hefty signing on fee with someone else. There's only a limited amount of sympathy to be had.

And now they're talking to Viera. Another brilliantly mad choice to guide them out of trouble.

I bet they were told they'd be renegotiated if they weren't relegated.
Both players had been informed they would be being released at the end of the season some months before, as Taylor himself confirmed.

“I didn’t expect to get offered a new contract but it’s not about that, you have to move on,” said the defender. “The more important thing is that they can pick up a phone and call me or call my agent and say, ‘Listen, thank you for everything, we are going to release you’. That is more the way to do it.”

I'm not sure what he's saying in that last bit ?

Maybe the club didn't give him a 4 month send off tour like we did to our heros that were moving on.
