Mignolet worries.

He's meanders from the suspect to the spectacular. Never a boring match with our Simon on the goal.

I like him though and don't see him as a problem.

Mignolet certainly needs to pull his finger out his arse and get on with it. He has shipped in a few. He needs to take command of his area and dominate balls into the 6 yard box.

This is starting to feel ominously like the pre-Reina days when I would dread every cross or corner against us.

Bah, you knew this would happen. Our defence and communication was horrendous. He should have done better but every keeper would be suspect with that dross infront of you.

True, he's not our biggest problem, but he needs to improve. Fast. For as long as our play encourages use of the keeper in retaining possession, his shite kicking will continually put us under pressure. His hesitation in coming for crosses is compounded by none of the defenders, bar Sakho, being aerially dominant.

The second goal was shite but I wonder how effective Johnsn's call was.

GJ has been shite for ages and Cissokho is appalling.

He flapped. Boo hoo.

If Johnson had attempted to defend instead of watching then we might have not conceded

As long as we have dross like Cissokho and Johnson playing in front of him it isn't fair to fall out on him.

Those school boy errors Mignolet has made lately are only his fault. Doesn't really matter who are playing in front of him if a keeper can't catch a ball.
I wouldn't mind giving Reina an another change next season by creating a proper competition with Mignolet.

I agree with the competition thing. The rest is wank.

This. People go on about Reina, but when Reina first came, he wasn't that good in the air as well. He was fantastic at shot stopping and rushing out early, but he would come for crosses and flap. Over the years, he improved, but then we know he got fat and started to stop saving low shots... but that's another story.

Reina had at least 3 solid defenders in Hyypia, Carra and Finnan in front of him when he arrived, and Riise could do a decent job too. Then we added Arbeloa, who was sound, again. In contrast, we now have a backline comprising arguably the worst pair of fullbacks in the league, Skrtel who is pretty solid but nowhere near Carra/Hyypia in their prime in terms of consistency, and then a CB slot which is basically a revolving door with either Toure/Agger/Sakho stepping in, depending on who is fit.

It's not to excuse Mignolet and absolve him of his errors, but playing behind such a backline can't be too good for his nerves.

I mean, you can see that he's unsure whether to come out to catch crosses because he has no idea what the clowns in front of him are up to.

I think, if he isn't already, Mignolet needs to go and see that psychologist Suarez has been working with because he (Mignolet) often looks a little over-awed by the situation he is in. Admittedly he isn't helped by having in front of him a beyond-crap loanee left back who is drawing comparisons with our worse ever players, a free-signing CB and a rightback who must surely be a prime candidate for departure in the summer. Ming also isn't helped by this insane policy of Rodgers of having us playing it on the ground every single time, starting with the keeper; invariably we fuck about with it nervously and lose it and that puts Ming right back under pressure through no fault of his own. The knock on effect of that must be Ming having to make difficult decisions about which fuckwit defender to roll the ball to next time in the hope we don't lose it again. Something has to be done about how our team goes about this tactic because we are so bad at it, and it's exactly not a new idea in football that we are trying out.

He's saved us enough times this season. Once he's playing in front of a settled back four I'm sure he'll be fine.

How long is this one going to keep getting trotted out for? not just you gk, loads say it like the Borini and his movement line.

Everytime he makes a mistake now which is every week atm were supposed to just brush it off with that line until the next cock up and rinse and repeat.

Our centre backs are fine for criticism and they have 2 utterly wank full backs next to them and non existant protection from the midfield but Mignolet is ok because he wouldn't have chocolate wrists if we had a settled defence.

If he indeed did have chocolate wrists, he wouldn't have been able to make most of the fantastic saves that he has.

Also, I think Kolo might start gnawing on him.

That's a fair enough point, and obviously he needs to improve. I just don't see enough yet to make me genuinely worried about his ability to improve.

Yeah i understand but these mistakes really have to stop before it really does cost us, its a shame because he clearly has class.

It's all a bit jittery at the back and it seems to be adversely affecting him, which is a shame because ideally he'd have enough about him to keep his calm and instill it in others. Perhaps things don't work that way though, I don't know.

As said, we can only hope for an improvement once we get a proper defence sorted.
