Important distinctions: I wouldn't sell Meireles. I think he's excellent. But I think #LFC will, even to #CFC, if the offer is suitable.

£20 million no less

for a 28 year old? no chance.

Selling him would seriously deplete our central midfield creativity. Doesn't make sense.
maybe they see ming as surplus and can use the money from his sale to buy an attacker. I don't agree but I can see the logic in it.

Chelsea seem desperate why not and it seems as tho we don't want him for what ever reason plus Kenny and co will have something up thier sleeves I'm guessing!

I can't see us bringing a top notch attacking CM in over the next two days.
I meant an attacker, full stop. I can see us selling ming and then signing an attacker who can play up front or on the wing.

maybe we're confident gerrard is over his injuries, giving us CM options of;

lucas
spearing
gerrard
adam
henderson
jonjo

spearing and jonjo are in my opinion not good enough to play for us regurlarly. which they might if gerrard, adam, henderson or lucas (lol!) got injured. id rather keep meireles as he would offer real competition to these four, instead of just being emergency back up.

Chelsea have had an offer rejected for the Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles of £7m plus Yossi Benayoun as a makeweight.

The London club will continue to talk to Liverpool in the hope of making progress for Meireles, as they look to close the transfer window with a flourish, but Benayoun is unlikely to be part of any deal – Liverpool sold the midfielder to Chelsea last summer for £5m and they have the first option on him but they do not appear to want him back.

Benayoun sees no future for himself at Stamford Bridge and he wants to leave, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Lille having shown an interest in him. Chelsea remain determined to sign Luka Modric from Tottenham, meaning that Benayoun has found himself advanced in a makeweight in those negotiations.
Chelsea also hope to take the left-sided player Alvaro Pereira from Porto before Wednesday's deadline. They failed with a bid of €20m (£17.7m) last week, which fell short of the €30m buy-out clause in the Uruguayan's contract, but they are encouraged by the player's desire to complete the move.

Chelsea have offered 7M.

Shows you what Chelsea believe him to be worth. Quite the difference between that and the 20/30M everybody on here thinks we'd get for him.

That'd be £6m less than we paid last year. Yep, he had a fucking diabolical season.

Couldn't be the chav twats trying to get the £5m back could it, or trying to recoup some money on Judas? I can hardly bear seeing him in a chelski top, never mind Ming.

not a ming fan?

It really would be a bad move for us to sell at all let alone so late in the window, the offer of 7m clearly is not a serious one, he cost nearly twice that amount and the fact that Chelsea are willing to buy him and the fact that he clearly is a very good player means we could name a much much higher price.

Because we are not in Europe I would Not be surprised if we sell him in January with a replacement lined up.... Now is way too late.... I really really like Ming and truly hope we see sense and don't sell one of the best footballers we have... 7m plus Benny is just insulting really.

I'm not arsed. If his head is turned, then fuck him.

To quote Kenny (I think), "I've said it before but I think it's worth repeating. No individual is bigger than Liverpool Football Club".

We should keep him, him and Suarez seem to have a good understanding and he is able to play good passing football.

I like him.

But we're not going to get anywhere near the amonuts some people think we should be holding out for. If we sell him that is.

This.

We can also choose when we sell him.

I think he is a cracking player and as is normal for a fan feel some attachment to a player who plays well and scores a few, I'd be sad if his head has been turned etc... Maybe there was some truth to the rumour that he is not happy with his wages, strengthening Chelsea 2 days before the deadline without a hefty profit also ... It's a bad bad idea...

I do not want it to happen because I like the player, the only way I'd accept it is if we were to buy in a decent striker or wide player in his stead.

Selling him would be fucking absurd.

He's going to be an important player for us.

if we can only get 7 mil cash for him why would kenny sell? makes no sense unless it is more than 20 mil, at least.

Might be worth considering if its cash + Daniel Sturridge. Can't see that happening though.

Chelsea were planning to make an improved offer for Raul Meireles on Monday night after Liverpool rejected their opening bid of £8 million plus Yossi Benayoun.

Meireles can leave Liverpool, and has been available for sale at £11 million, but it is understood that Liverpool would rather he went overseas than join another Premier League club, particularly Chelsea.
Looks pretty fucking rubbish once youve taken Aquilani and Meireles out imo.
It leaves us with just Lucas as a proven premier league player who we can be assured of starting.
'where are we gonna play all these goddamn centre midfielders?'

S'alright, we'll sell all the good ones.

Gutted if this happens.
Meireles was one of the key reasons for our great football last season.
He's the reason we didnt really miss Gerrard.
I think the point is no one wants to sell him Ryan, so they put a ridiculous price on his head (although if Henderson is worth 16m......) as well you know, so i dont understand why youre being all snooty?

I personally wouldnt sell him for anything. Its not my money, im not interested in how much we have, im interested in who we can field.
Meireles is worth more to me as a fan than Chelsea could possibly afford to pay. And thats got little to do with market value.
All that said he had far more impact than Modric last season who Spurs just knocked back 40m for.
