Mascherano upset over 'lies'

One man's "dressing it up" is another man's telling it like it is, Avvy. I'm sticking up for Mascherano because of the amazing service he gave us, because of the reasons Portly's accurately set out and - most of all - because it's clear to me that Mascherano's family situation backed him into an impossible dilemma, such as I don't think any man can rightly be blamed for not being able to resolve in an ideal way.

No arguing that he had the right reasons for wanting to leave, Jules.

But it doesnt change the fact that he hurt us; his conduct ensured that we'd get much less than he's worth..and we needed the money badly to plug the massive hole he'd left precisely because he was such a fantastic player.

He didn't need to shaft us, but he did to ensure he got his move.

I'm sure some will remember his valued service, and maybe I will someday..now I just see somene who's done something that even Owen didnt do..refuse to play for our club.

It's more galling since when we needed him desperately against a MAJOR rival for a Champions League spot.

You can't knock his conduct on the pitch that's true enough. To be honest I don't care what he has to say anymore - it's dragging the whole thing out. He's gone and that's that. So see ya, thanks for what you did all apart from the strop at the end.

Twelve months ago Portly, he had three years on his contract. Why should we have let him go?
When did the details of his contract ever stop a footballer leaving a club? I thought it was quite unusual when Mascherano accepted it, when he was told he couldn't leave.
Where did I say that the details of his contract would stop him leaving?

Im saying that the details of his contract meant we were right not to let him go.

He was told he could go this year. He was told he could go when an acceptable offer came in. Thats what happened.

I dont care if he didnt play against City because he refused to or because his head "wasnt right". Its all the same to me. Basically he didnt play because he threw his toys out of the pram when we turned down a derisory offer from Barca. Or maybe you thought we should have accepted it?

I cant be arsed hating him. He was a super player and he can say he always gave his all. If it isnt true that he refused to play then im sorry for some of the things i said about a Liverpool legend.
Im sorry he wanted to leave but it must be horrible leaving your family behind, i dont think i could do it.
So bye Mascherano, you could have handled things better but you gave us 12 months so maybe we expect too much.

I think it's sad state of affairs when we're applauding footballers for not being a cunt.

I think we were lucky that we were not caught in the situation that Leeds United were in, when Harry Kewell announced that he wanted to play for Liverpool and nobody else.

When a player decides that (a) he is going to leave his club and (b) there is only one club he wants to play for, the selling club is completely fucked because they have no kind of bargaining position. It benefited Liverpool because we were able to sign Kewell for buttons.

I'd have done the same thing as well, as a matter of fact I i did do the same thing.

I didnt shaft my employers when I did, even though I could have.

And yes, if it's not true that he refused to play so he could force a move, then I too am sorry for the things I said.

I'm pretty sure it was true though.

Hopefully it works out just as well for Barca.

I loved Mascherano but my opinion of him has quickly gone down hill...

If i was in his boat - Id have written a letter once leaving thanking the support of the fans - Advising that he didnt adapt very well to living in England and this was why he had to move. But... he enjoyed his time at Liverpool and hopes that we get back to the top where we belong.. Advise that he was disapointed with the way things ended but hope fortunes improve for both parties.

sorry for the headfuck - Javier M. x x x

Javier who again?

Mascherano.

Are you going senile?

I am really gutted about the way it's all worked out with Mascherano, he was always excellent in terms of him commitment and desire for the game. I loved those desperate runs from him when tracking a man back, and those beautiful crunching tackles. No one was better than him at that. I'll miss him, and I'm sorry that it had to end on such a sour note.

The Guardian quotes him as saying: "When they started to involve my family and to say things that didn't make sense, I obviously suffered.

"They'd promised me something for a whole year and they never fulfilled their promise. And that didn't have anything to do with my family or anything else. When you read or hear lies, you obviously get angry."

However, he did have some words of praise for former boss Rafa Benitez.

"Rafa taught me tactics," he said.

"He's one of the coaches who have taught me the most in my career and I'm very grateful to him. He was fundamental. He gave me the chance to join Liverpool. He had confidence in me at a time when, perhaps, nobody would have dreamed of giving me an opportunity. I'll be grateful to him all my life."

What the fuck is he talking about?

'When they started to involve my family'

He's all along been justifying shafting us by saying it was for his family yadda yadda, I don't get this.

I stand by my defence of the guy so far, but he really needs to zip it pronto now.

Yeh, what's done is done. Sick of hearing about. Shut up Masher and go and play footy.

I think most fans have moved on, it would be better if Masch did; he's not impressing anyone with his attempt to obscure his forcing of the issue.

Yeah, true.

I only mentioned it because I genuinely want to know what he's talking about, actually.

My reading of it FWIW is that, if anyone was going to mention Masher's family, he wanted it to be he alone that did so - partly that, and partly the fact that he's naturally something of a motormouth. I always liked the little bugger but was never blind to that chink in his armour.

I have heard that his Mrs started to get a bit of verbals when she was out and about.
Is he suggesting the club made more of an issue that was necessary, which caused her these problems? Its the reason he said he wanted to go, and as far as I am aware the only reason.
Now I have seen her out shopping in Tesco's with him and the sprog and she looks a fairly unremarkable little thing to be honest and if she was not with him no one would have a clue who she was.
I think Mascher needs to get-real about this and move on.
He made his point last year, and we were not expecting him to stay this year, not enough interest shown by other clubs to push his price up, Barca saw the opportunity to shaft us , he started to panic and fucked us up.....end

regards

haha mascherano what a comedian.

last week he said "I have nothing against the club or fans, I just need a change".

bojito puta madre!

So the lies were what?

That his family wanted him to move? That's the lie? That means he wanted to move because he would just prefer to break his contract and go to Barca.

So now we know, he didn't move for family reasons, he just didn't fancy playing for us anymore.

That's alright then.

okay....

so he is saying that his family have nothing to do with him wanting a move???

in that case - fuck off you ugly little bastard.

Come on lads, we are all in agreement that Mascherano is a massive CUNT!

Moving swiftly along...

He's not a MASSIVE cunt. He was a cunt for refusing to play, if that is true. When he was on the pitch his effort could not be questioned - maybe his temperament at times. His family couldn't settle, fair enough. Whatever promises were made or not made he was contracted to the club and the club had given certain assurances he could go if an acceptable offer was made. We had a duty to ourselves as a club to make sure an acceptable offer was received. Statements about being inhumane were hysterical. End of the day, he's gone now - it's done and there's really no point in dragging the soap opera out.
