They probably heard about the Sunderland bus getting smashed up outside Anfield the other night and thought they'd be extra nice .

It's a nice idea however I believe the 96 would prefer fans in those seats at Anfield providing vocal support to their team.

Perhaps the club could reserve 96 seats in the redeveloped stadium and give the tickets away for free each game to low income dads and lads who can't afford to see the Reds play.

I disagree. With an extention we will have plenty of places. Those 96 empty seats would send out a real statement and support. The club is for all fans, and leaving 96 symbolic places doesn't preventiv the club for doping something for the low Nicole group as well.

Those 96 fans died whilst going to watch their club play football.

Keeping 96 seats empty seems misguided as it prevents fans from doing just what they wanted to do.

Yeah, I agree with both Woland and Jon, I think a memorial is much more apt. Of course we should never ever forget and the fight should and will continue, but we need to move on in some sense too, and I think having that constant reminder there on match day in the ground won't help in that respect.

It's a very nice idea and gesture though.

Quite agree lads

A constant reminder of something so traumatic every game would not be a smart thing for the club to do

I thought they were seats that had to be kept empty to seperate the home and away fans anyway?

Jones
Wisdom
Carra
Coates
Robinson
Allen
Lucas
Shelvey
Downing
Sturridge
Suso

According to Aldo.

Rumoured team;

Jones, Wisdom, Carra, Coates, Robinson, Allen, Lucas, Shelvey, Suso, Sturridge, Downing

I see they've reverted to the pointless resting of the first choice keeper. The last thing Reina needs is a rest. He needs to keep working.

Important to let Jones know he's still wanted though, and that Reina has to keep up his good form.

Sturridge has got more chance of breaking his ankle on that pitch.

Oh noes. Maybe I'll back the double of hattrick followed by serious injury.

Fine, put an arm round him and tell him he's wanted. Every single player should earn his place.

Tbf, Jones had, and then was ousted by Reina returning to fitness. I thought he did pretty well overall, so he at least deserves a go in these sort of games. There's no point having a back up keeper if he never plays, when he does he'll have had zero match practice, so what's the point?

These matches can be horribly chaotic affairs when you need teammates who are confident, in form and know each other well. An incredible number of cock-ups that lead to giant killings these days involve a defender misunderstanding the decisions of a rusty reserve keeper. I just don't know why managers seem so eager to risk being embarrassed in such games (particularly when the managers have done nothing and ought to be desperate to win something). I want to win the games calmly and professionally. It's not a friendly organised for second string players. A reserve keeper should play regularly in the reserves, end of.

Remember a year when Burnley sent us out to a Traore OG, spectacular OG aswell.
That was a horrendously makeshift side.

Exactly. And it's amazing how fans end up getting used to something so irrational as taking the second choice keeper out of regular reserve action in order to sit on the bench for most of each season. It's crazy, but the irrationality breeds more irrationality with the 'need' to play him the odd time - playing the odd time helps no player - to keep him involved. It's like football version of a Kafka fable.

Macca's spot on. I'd rather concentrate on maintaining the form/fitness of my No.1 keeper (who's struggled for both this season prior to a recent upturn).

It's not like Jones is a top young keeper with oodles of potential needing games either.

I went to the memorial last time I was over in the UK, it's good.

There is an alternative for the 96 seats to leaving them unused - have a dedication plaque on the seats and the money from those seats donated to charity / charities chosen by the support groups.
